I purchased the straight shootin system a year ago and cannot get to grips with it, the whole roll at the top seems to be alien to my body, i also noticed (i could be totally wrong) when playing daltons swing in slow motion that he more or less seems to roll his "wristees" at impact and not where he advocates. I am currently playing of 1.5 handicap. I get blocks and the odd straight shot but maybe a club less,it does not seem to me to be a easy swing to replicate. The theory seems to make a lot of sense, but is not easy to put into practice. Why arent all the pros using this system!!!!

Well I purchased Straight-Shootin golf over a year ago and I have got worse. I have done the drills nearly every day, got a tire and everything I am told to do so. I am now 15 and got the videos when i was 14. I used to play off 14 now I am a 15 handicapper. I am now afraid to enter competitions as I am not confident with my new swing. Like Dalton I use to hook the ball, now I either slice, pull or top the ball. I look like a beginner on the course and now my handicap doesn't relate to what I can do. I watch the videos everyday but I just can't get it. The theory is excellent and I believe it will work but for some reason I cannot hit a golf ball straight or far. Maybe I am thinking too much? Anyway I am off to wack my tire and HOPEFULLY I will soon become a straight-shootin golfer (Fingers Crossed) But I have practiced for over a year and still aint got it :(

I bought the SSG tapes in Spring of 1999. I hadn't played golf for quite a while, though I used to play alot years earlier (never did too well, though got compliments on my nice, smooth swing). I really didn't do all the drills very much. Never did get a chance to hit a tire. When I went to the range, I did notice that my irons flew very high and fairly straight, but, as most have mentioned, shorter than usual. I was really disappointed in the 3W I use instead of a driver. I was barely getting 200 yds. Found that flattening my swing a little, doing everything else he says, I was booming them straight. I think the rolling the right heel is the best tip to give any golfer. I haven't really golfed much since then, but trying to get to the range more to gear up for playing. Using the "one - and -roll", starting my downswing slower (I tend to "hit from the top"), and just accelerate from the "roll" position, I am hitting the ball long and straight, at least with the longest clubs; mid- and short irons still aren't long enough yet. I think I'll view the tapes again and work on the drills, because from what I've seen, I used to be a big slicer and now it's just a tad of fade or straight.

Bought and watched the videos. Thought 'whats the big deal'? Went to the range having performed none of the drills and after about 50 balls, started to hit a few 'correctly' with the dm swing. did notice a distinct lack of distance though. After a further weekend of balls (500) i had the feel and was slotting 4 out of 6 balls just fine (5 iron 200yrds & straight) with the 'bad' shot being a slight fade (maybe 10-15 yrds). key to distance returning seemed to be a more of a snap on the wrist roll ('toe of club through target on follow through' fixed it for me). before, i was shooting 90-100 every round. i am now shooting around the 80 mark (in 3 months). i'm 32 and have played for 6 years. i'd never had any professional instruction so can't say for sure how this compares, but it really is working for me.

3 days arrival - when you but from Shop America as i did, they have a script and try and flog you a whole load of other stuff (the "DM" this the "DM" that) beforeyou've even got SSG - puts you off a bit.

I started playing golf two summers ago at a local driving range. I hit for two weeks and was TERRIBLE!!! For the life of me, I couldn't get the ball to go anywhere remotely where I wanted it to go. I just happened upon a late night infomercial promoting Dalton's program. Why not!!! I order all of that stuff anyway... why should golf be any different. Well, I received it and spent a weekend "ACTIVELY" watching the videos in my living room. That is the key. The next time out to the range, the "You Suck" comments stopped and were replaced by "Nice Shot". By my 35 actual round of golf, my handicap was a 2.9, although it is currently 4.9 because I haven't practiced any of Dalton's drills for at least 6 months. By the end of summer, I know I will be a scratch golfer. I have absolutely no idea why anybody would give a negative review to this system. Give it a try exactly the way Dalton suggests and I'm sure you'll be happy. As far as the quality of the videos and Dalton's "hang loose" personality... I think it's great!!! He made me realize that golf is EASY... don't make such a big deal about it. If I didn't see myself shooting par within a year or two, I'd probably quit playing. Thanks Dalton.

I have just been reading other reviews on Daltons tapes. They seem to be quite mixed. The negative ones i believe are doing something fundamentally wrong as i find the instruction very basic and easy to understand. The only negative i have is the same as other reviewers to do with the quality of the videos. Oh and also the painfully annoying Lane (student on the video). I have read the book twice and have watched the videos 4 times in six weeks and each time i am picking up more and more information. Everything in the videos really does make sence. i spent an hour last week down the pub trying to convince a friend that the golf swing is the same for every club and not different for the driver as he has been told. As for my golf things are slowley coming together. Firstly i lost distance but was generally straigter, now the distance is back but the accuracy has gone a bit so i am back in the garden doing the drills and already feel better as i am now getting the rythm & tempo i lack. i do persevere with everything i do in life and my golf is no different. My previous lessons changed my swing and i could not hit anything, but slowly my scores improved and this is the approach i am taking with the Daltons videos. All i can say to any doubters is watching the videos & a few hours practice will not make dramatic improvements. Weeks & months of practice & playing will only do this.

I found the tapes interesting, but agree that the quality could be better. My big gripe is regarding lie angle. Dalton states that the industry standard lie angle on golf clubs does not suit 85 per cent of player and that he could get the correct golf clubs if needed. So I went to his website to look for clubs, and the link took me to Pinemeadow Golf in Oregon, a club manufacturer. Well, they do not know Dalton McCrary and do not recommend changing lie angles. I have sent e mails to the address on Dalton's website querying this subject but have not had a reply. Leaves one feeling frustrated. I can understand the logic of what he says regarding lie angle, but he does not back it up with his club manufacturer links.

Model Reviewed: Daltons Straight Shootin' golf system

Up until recently my best round was 144 on a per 72 - 6500 yards, with a 3 quarter back swing. I saw the PGA tour pro at my club, He changed my grip and told me to 'Roll my hands'(kept my back swing at 3 quarter swing). The next time I played I scored 119! (25 shots off my best).I then damaged an intercostal muscle at the driving range and had to have 4 weeks off golf. During that time I bought 'Daltons Straight Shootin golf system'. I watched all 4 videos (which incidently are poor quality and could all have been fitted onto 1 two hour tape). I bought them to learn 'The secret', which Kevin & Dalton discuss on Shop America. It seems the secret is the so called '40" zone of squareness', which basically gets you to roll your hands approx 20" from the ball, making the club face square on impact (something the Pro at the club had told me a month previous). One thing the videos did do was to give you a good back swing and arm position when the club is above your head. Unfortuatly, the theory is great - but putting the 3 stage sequence into practice isn't quite as easy as he makes out on Shop America). I practiced & practiced and 'couldn't hit a cows ass with a banjo'. The videos are now in a cupboard. After a month off I recently scored 122, I'm confident that with a few less 3 putts and lost balls, I'll break 100 within a month. I may go back to them, but for now I have gone back to my original swing.
