I suspect that this is most likely an excellent golf lesson. It taught me how to strike a golf ball.

I agree that the concept could easily be condensed into one (as opposed to four) videos. It's a simple concept but very compelling and logical to me.
The problem is that I am 6'4" and do not feel that I have been able to really test the swing properly.

In attempting to have custom clubs made (I need longer more upright clubs) I've encountered nothing but hostility and roadblocks from golf shops and even a small custom golf outfit. I was able to rent a 7 iron and a driver from the custom outfit that Dalton is affiliated with. I could hit the clubs very well. (The 7 iron about 180 quite straight and consistently) This leads me to the part that really ticks me off though. These clubs are exorbinantly priced. Like $300 for an ONE iron or something like that. This is a beautifully simple beginners golf lesson, it is ridiculous that McCrary not affiliate himself with a reasonably priced club manufacturer, and or, provide some basic engineering advice for an individual to be able to figure out the shaft length and lie angle and shaft flex that they will need.

This may seem simple. However, the 7 iron that i rented from his shop still didn't really allow me to stand as upright as his video taught me to, and i could tell that i was compromising the swing. Also, each club is a different length, so what club would a taller person adjust the length above standard from? It appears that I would need a 7 iron at least 2 inches longer than standard and at least bent up 6 degrees in order to perform this swing. Would this then cause my 3 or 4 iron to be too long? I hve been unable to find anyone i can have a theoretical talk on this with. I WOULD BE VERY EXCITED TO LEARN SOME BASIC ENGINEERING DO'S AND DON'TS TO MAKING A SET OF THESE CLUBS. IF YOU HAVE KNOWLEDGE, OR KNOW OF A GOOD MANUAL, PLEASE ADVISE.

I thought the other reviewers comment that this is a short iron swing was compelling as well. This gets at my problem of having a whole set made to fit the swing. The swing certainly did not compromise distance for me, but I've only swung the two clubs I mentioned.

The concept is simple. An upright stance allowing for your natural center of gravity and power. hen you bend more than just slightly at the knees or waiste then you will be introducing more variablity and more elements to control when you start swinging. It's much easier to keep your head still and your swing smooth, when you take away a pronounced knee bend or waiste bend.

So, I'd say probably an excellent concept and lesson, but it's shameless that there is not some good sound advice on getting some clubs fitted to you. Especially if you are a taller golfer. Of course his outfit does not want to provide this, they want to sell you some $3,000 irons.

overall, 3.5 star's.

This was the very first instructional series that I purchased and, to put it bluntly, it's been disastrous. I've recently purchased the book "Swing like a Pro" which is a scientific, biomechanical analysis of the golf swing and it contradicts EVERYTHING espoused in Dalton McCrary's videos. What's worse, it directly gives biomechanical evidence for why many of the so-called "tips" in these videos will ultimately ruin the average person's golf game. What originally came off as excellent "insider" information in these videos now seems like the ravings of a lunatic; special moves that McCrary attributes to the pros are totally debunked in "Swing like a Pro." Whipping the wrist? NO top pro does it (contrary to Mr. McCrary) and the effects of doing it are DEVASTATING! Left hand control of the golf club? A complete myth, also debunked. Twenty-inch zone of squareness? Nope, no pro relies on it and attempting to create it will cause an over-the-top swing the likes of which you've never seen. Centering the ball in the middle of your stance at address? DISASTROUS! Don't even THINK about making consistent contact with the ball if you try this. The swing is in the ARMS? Forget it. Empirical evidence conclusively shows that the full golf swing resides primarily in the effectiveness of shifting your weight from one foot to the other at the appropriate times in the swing, something else that McCrary doesn't recommend. I could go on and on. Only the greenest beginner would find any value in this information and s/he would spend the rest of his/her life correcting the myriad of bad habits these videos teach. NO professional golfer of any note has a swing even REMOTELY resembling Mr. McCrary's swing and there are very good reasons for that. I've personally learned the hard way that these videos DO NOT WORK. If you want to know the mechanics of a REAL full golf swing or just correct the crap that these videos may have injected into your game, get "Swing like a Pro" and end the mysteries for good.

A little over a year ago, I bought Dalton's tapes and Natural Golf's tapes, with the idea that I'd try the method that looked the best.

Well... I went with Natural Golf. With it, I was able to break 100 regulary, but continued to have consistency problems and remained a very frustrated golfer.

A couple of months ago, while considering giving up the game completely, I decided to dust off the old Dalton tapes and give 'em another look.

Something clicked for me, on this viewing. What seemed odd the previous time, made perfect sense to me this time.

My scores have come down at least 10 strokes and I fully expect more improvement as I continue to groove my new swing.

Dalton's method may not be for everyone, but it's certainly working for me.

I purchased these tapes off a TV infomercial about two years ago. I watched them, read the manual, and then went to the driving range. I actually hit the ball straight...consistently. I couldn't believe it. A couple of months later, for various reasons, I stopped playing for about a year and a half. When I started up again, about two weeks ago, I reverted back to my old habits. My ball was all over the place. I had no control with any of my clubs. I remembered the tapes and decided to watch them again. I only watched the first tape and read the manual to refresh my memory right before leaving for the golf course. I used the techniques I remembered and actually hit the ball straight 80% of the time. I was thrilled. My biggest problem was that I was actually hitting the ball a lot further, causing me to hit over the green a few times and into the trees on a couple of dog-legged holes. I still took eleven strokes off my previous score. It makes me wonder why some people have written negative reviews of this system. Maybe they didn't give the videos a chance, because they are kind of hokey. It seems that most of these negative reviews come from pretty good golfers (possibly instructors themselves, who don't want people learning a simple golf swing that might cause them to lose clients). If you're already a decent golfer, you probably won't get much from these videos. But if you're not very good, shooting consistently over 90, I know you'll benefit from them. I know I did.

First off, these tapes are rather amateurish in filming style (almost like a home video) and the "students" he uses in explaining his techniques are "stoops". Ok, ok I can live with that. The real problem is that although he claims he isn't teaching a casting technique, what he IS teaching is just that. To a hi handicapper who sprays the ball all over it can help straighten out their game with two main dangers; one being that you will lose (yes lose, again despite what he preaches) distance and secondly, especially for hi handicappers, it is too easy to promote an over the top swing which will make a WORSE slice. On the positive side he does teach a sound takeaway as well as a sound follow through in terms of the hands not crossing the toes. Still though the faults outweigh the benefits and I am glad I didn't actually buy these tapes (a friend gave them to me to view) although they were somewhat amusing to view (again the students served more as comic relief).

I have just purchased this system and i am awaiting it's arrival, what i have noticed from the other reviews of this product is that the people that shoot up in the 80s and 90s feel this system has helped them, however the people shooting in the 70s feel it is crap, it seems to me that for the average golfer this system does work, but for the better golfer, well they think they already know it all but still want that bit extra to make them really good which is been a little bit greedy.

This video collection is a joke. The videos are infomercials in themselves. He tries to sell you new clubs and all kind of other junk! Don't waste your money.

I picked this up for my wife doing some late night TV surfing. She hasn't viewed the tapes but I did. I am the world's biggest non-beliver when it comes to this stuff. However, over last winter I practiced 80% of the drills and my USGA index did drop from a 15.6 to an 8.5 this last summer. These tapes have helped my game more than any other single event (clubs, lessons or "tips" from fellow golfers). I hate sounding like an advertisment, but these tapes really helped my golf game.

This guy will screw up your swing big time. I took three lessons from him at a driving range in Grapevine, TX 6 years ago and it took a year to get me swing back. His real name is Steve McCrary or at least thats what is was in 1995. I almost passed out when I saw that he was making videos. His only guarantee should be that he will have you coming over the top in a month. Ask any professional if they cast the club from the top. Steve will tell you it's the big secret that the pro's don't want you to know about. What a bunch of B.S. If you are considering buying a video from this guy don't.
