I did not buy the tape, but I had a chance to view it.
1st)casting is not advocated. If you break the swing down you will find that the release is actually accomplished when the right hip is approaching the ball. Like all swings it would be casting only if you did not shift your weight.
2nd)The guy is painful to watch.
3rd)the video and sound is average, but no worse than others.
4th)He is not offering a quick fix method. This guy loads you up with drills. Some I tried and they did give good results. If you dont drill it wont work.
Mccrary is teaching a traditional swing from a different perspective. I like the PI system better, but I would suggest that Mccrary does give a good lesson on how to the use the hands at release. I also like his backswing lesson. He is a bore, and the tapes are filled with useless chatter. But the nuts and bolts are very good.

This is no quick fix product. However, I have tried four golf pro's(five lessons each) and various books. No other program has gotten me below 90. I have shot in the 80's twice(85 and 87). It does take lot's of practice but if you listen and do the drills then it will work. It works for me and I would recommend it to anyone. I have a lot more work to do but it is the last golf lesson that I will take. I hit the ball straighter and longer. I hit the ball on the average 10 yards longer than before this program. Occasionally when I do the swing perfectly, the ball will go 30 yards farther and perfectly straight. When I do hit a bad shot, I can usually tell what I did wrong and correct it. The flat stick video has helped me as well.

Before I purchased these tapes I was shooting in the 100's. Now, I'm shooting in the low 80's. I have also noticed a big difference in distance. Before I used Dalton's methods I was hitting my 7 iron about 155. Now, I'm hitting it almost 170. Talk about night and day. I can't believe some of these other reviewers have claimed that Dalton teaches his students to "cast" the club. This is nonsense. Try watching Jack Nicklaus's "Golf my Way". I did. He even says there is no delay in a golf club (as long as you are transferring your weight). I picked up a Kalassy "Swing Magic" the other day and tried it. Kalassy teaches the same swing as Dalton. Also, try David Leadbetter's "Laser Guide". Same swing as Dalton (for the most part). Dalton just explains it in a way (English) that us weekend golfers can understand. Thanks for saving my game, Dalton.

I was having problems with my swing last year, so i decided to try dalton's lessons.......and i didn't notice a drop of 10 shots a round but i did hit the ball much straiter then i have been. and i used his methods all last year....and i had my career best to date an 81 during state sectionals for my high school team......but i decided i wanted to take my game to another level.....so i droped the dalton method and got lessons from a local pro, and after 3 weeks i shot an 81....and i have noticed drops in my scores.

thank you dalton for last year but the swing wasn't what i was really looking for but it did help me very much as a begainer...the final word is that this methid is good to hit the ball strait but i didn't think that this was taking me where "I" wanted to go.

On my first full round after studying the videos I scored 84 and I had only played once in the previous 9 months.

Dalton's system has really helped me to hit the ball straighter, so I can really give it my wholehearted recommendation. I also think his method of teaching is very simple, but it still needs a lot of work because these teachings are really different. However they make good sense and I am telling my friends they should get the program if they are serious about improving. Thanks Dalton!

I wrote a review of this instructional tape series last January. I gave my honest opinion of this product as briefly as possible, but with several examples of my concerns with the "instruction". Today I received a rather snotty email from Dalton (Steve) McCreary hisself. I imagine everyone else who has written a negative review has received the same email or one similar.

I stand by my review, and want to clarify what I wrote. In the first part of the instruction you are told to take a one inch divot and it is explained this occurs because of your right knee bending on the stroke and follow through, ending up one inch lower than your left knee. In the fourth lesson, a review and recap, McCreary demonstrates a swing and doesn't take a divot; swings again and takes a shallow one. From then on, including the roll up at the end of the tape your are told to skim the ground. So what is it? Take a one inch divot or skim the ground? As one other reviewer has stated recently, a divot is the result of correctly striking the ball first with an iron on a downward plane and taking turf as a result of the momentum of the swing and follow through.

In his "review" on this site Dalton mentions Hogan's Five Lessons. Mr. Hogan goes into great detail about swing planes and shaft angles on the back swing and down stroke. As I remember, Dalton ridicules the whole idea of these basic swing concepts.

I am always looking for ways to improve my game. I believe anyone who plays golf on a regular basis feels the same way. I do not believe Straight Shootin' Golf is the answer; not with all of the really excellent sources available, including Hogan's book.

Lastly, if you want to spend $3000.00 to $5000.00 for a set of clubs, contact MacGregor Golf, among others. They have a program (or did have) where they will fly you to the foundry in Georgia. There their master club builder will fit you for a set of clubs, and literally build them for you while you wait.

Golfers, I have read most of the reviews on my instructional philosophy. I've personally answered all of the reviews especially the negative ones from different golfers but have gotten no response from any of them. For the record I do not expand on nor promote a casting motion. There are two things you can do at the beginning of your downswing. One is casting and the other is not. Anyone who thinks what I teach is casting just flat dab missed the boat. It's OK the swing I teach is not for everyone. No swing philosophyfrom any nationally known instructor is. That's why I guaranteed the instructional series for you guys. My question for every one who didn't get it is, did you get your money back as I promissed? If you didn't you just didn't ask for it. If you did you should be happer that a pig is slop. For those of you who wrote negative reviews but borrowed the tapes from someone else and have nothing invested in the philosophy and surely didn't work on the approaches I suggested. I wish you well and hope you find someone's instruction more to your liking. Perhaps someone who agrees with what you believe the swing should be. My philosophy is as sould fundimentally as Hogans Five Lessons. But should anyone not appreciate the philosophy you have my "WORD" on it you will lose nothing. If you have questions I can be reached personally. Find another nationally known golf instructor you can talk to about your swing? We have sold over a million copies world wide and 86% of them keep it and benefited from them. Those who don't get their money back no questions ask. How in the world can you top that deal? Happy golfing, see you in the fairway.----Dalton McCrary

For starters I have never seen the word CRAP used so many times to discribe a teaching aid. (A bit unfair I feel)

While this line of instruction may not be for everyone it does present the golf swing and its machanics in a different fashion. I for one found this method of instruction interesting and a breath of fresh-air after years of bloody Golf Digest.

Just one point I would like to make. On several occasions during the instruction Dalton makes the point of not trying to duplicate his set-up, swing length etc. We all have our own body types and individual swings. Just work on incorporating Dalton's swing fundamentals into yours.

Some reviewers seem to be trying to mirror Daltons swing image, I do not think this was his intention.

Just a thought.

Dont waste your money on this crap! This guy is a snake oil salesman preying on foolish people.
Save your money and use it for some proper lessons from a PGA profesional!
Anyone who gives this a good rating is ignorant!
There is no secret easy way to good golf!
You need to study, and practice a lot!

Borrowed the tape for review and used his swing for a couple of months of winter golf. His concept is a gimmick swing that may or may not work for you. He has some good basics on grip and tempo - like most other swing videos. His basic concept of releasing the club immediately with no delayed release will produce a straighter, and much shorter, shot. I've had my swing video several times over the years and a constant problem observed is the very early release with good swing tempo and weight shift - (which D. M. claims is impossible to do if you swing correctly - a PHD in Physics/biomechanics is not in his future) - so snapping the left wrist early exaggerated my problem as short weak shots were now even shorter and weaker, plus releasing the club earlier caused a lot of thin shots. I don't care what he says about bobbing up and down should happen naturally to create the proper divot - it doesn't work - you need to hit down on the ball! Another point - go talk to any pro giving lessons - they want you to do the delayed release - which DM points out and it causes offline shots- and it is one of the hardest things high handicappers have to master. So, extrapolating from this logic, he shouldn't sell many tapes because most high handicappers have an early release and thus have already mastered his main point - then why are they still high handicappers? Recommend Ron Belbario's Turbo Swing (teaches exact opposite of DM theory)
