Wilson Staff Di7 Irons

Wilson Staff Di7 Irons

DESCRIPTION

Simply stated, the new Wilson Staff Di7 irons are not like other clubs. A lower profile moves the center of gravity down for higher ball flight. A wide sole moves the CG back for greater stability and straighter ball flight. A wider tip shaft prevents twisting on off-center hits. If you want to hit it longer and straighter, try the new Di7.

Wow hcp down from 28 to 24 in a 6weeks.
Sooo easy to hit, even off centre and about 1 1/2 clubs longer than previous set. It took me about 3 weeks to get used to the distance (only play once a week) but now I'm hitting greens from 150-180 which rarly happened before (my chipping is suffering). All in all a great set of irons!

These clubs are phenomenal! They are aesthetically pleasing and do not look like one of those clunky over-hyped “Super Game Improvement” irons so often published in magazines. I found the club to be perfectly weighted and well balanced. The old cliché is to swing easy and let the club do all the work. Well, with these clubs, it is very true. Solid shots feel awesome. Miss hits definitely let you know it. Like many avid golfers, I did my fair share of research (Testing rather than just reading of course) before buying. I started with the top rated from the “Hot List” and worked my way down. I cannot believe these were not the top rated clubs because they clearly out performed the other clubs. Perhaps they would have received a higher rating if the were name “Calloway” or “Taylor Made.” Oh- and by the way, these are half the price the aforementioned brands.

I have had my Di7 irons for a few weeks. My previous set of irons were Callaway X-18's.

As Wilson says these irons are "different". The obvious or visual differences are the low profile head, no iron head hosel - this allows that metal to be used on the back and bottom of the club, the fat shaft, and around 1" in additional shaft length. These differences enable these clubs to be the longest (10+ yards on all varieties of contact), straightest, most forgiving, and softest feeling irons that I have ever hit. In summary, effortless power with a luxurious feel.

I need to improve my lag putting now because these irons are getting me on more greens.

The clubs natural tendency is to hit the ball pretty straight. Consequently, hitting intentional draws and fades is more difficult but possible. I prefer to hit iron shots straight at my target. I miss more shots when I "over work" the ball.

I see no reason why these clubs would not benefit any players handicap. The easiest way to get better is to hit more greens in regulation.

My only complaint is with the grips. I will be changing them to Tour Velvet in the off-season.

I purchased the set for less than $400 new.

Just got these the other day as replacement for my Taylormade CGB's. Just got sick of looking at the big fat heads & wanted steel shafts this time. Also wanted something with more a traditional look but obviously still could play with!
I tried the Taylormade Forged TP but am not good enough to hit them, so I had to go for a 'normal' set. These are brilliant! They go straight even if you don't hit them in the middle, although you feel it when you don't. Great distance & control. Stock grips are crap so I put the new Golf Pride multi compound(red/black) and they're great.
I used a demo set for a couple of weeks while mine were on order & I could hit them even though the lie angle was not for me and they were too long(1" over). Custom fitting is advisable for anyone buying clubs & if you are - buy these!

Bought the Di7 irons in May and have really been impressed with them. The 7 - PW is extremely easy to hit and I get about 8 - 10 yds more from each club than my Taylor Made Firesoles (from 2000). The 4 - 6 irons are about the same for ease of hitting and distance as my old irons. I replaced the stock grips with some Golf Pride DD2 grips (yellow/black) and like the irons even more now. This set was well worth the money -- My game has improved tee to green from mid 90's to high 80's (irons probably save me 4 to 6 strokes per round). My # of greens in regulation is up from about 3 to about 6 or 7 now.

The biggest benefit from these clubs is when you hit a shot off the toe of the club, the ball still travels in the direction you intended. Didn't think I would like the larger shaft, but I really don't even notice it. I really like how the irons sit next to the ball -- top line of club looks great.

I tried a set of Wilson Di5 irons for a few weeks and I have to say that the Di7's are easier to hit and just a tad longer...not a lot longer, but the Di7 model gives you more confidence when hitting the ball.

I got my Di7's a few weeks ago. What a revelation! They're so much easier to hit than my old irons! And much longer too! They're easily a club to a club and a half longer. The ball flies high and straight with very little effort. Perhaps that's the key. Swing slowly and the ball just jumps off the clubface. Contrary to what Zach said, I was able to add a 3 iron to my set. It only took about two weeks and the cost was reasonable. Be sure to get the composite shaft. It's an amazing shaft. Wilson has really made golf much more enjoyable for me. Thank you very much!

Customer Service

I'd say excellent! Made a special order 3 iron in about two weeks. They didn't overcharge me either.

I have to agree with Gareth Jones who made an earlier review. I've always been a Wilson Staff iron guy and have used the Deep Red II, Staff Di5, and now this Di7.
I was influenced by all the hype by Wilson and have played 5 rounds with them. I'm not impressed. I know everyone's swing is different and maybe these work just fine for many golfers, but not for my swing. I find the distance and trajectory to be below the Di5 or Deep Red II. They feel heavy and do not feel that soft on impact. The Di5's felt much softer and had a better ball flight.
Maybe these will work for you and your swing but I'll probably trade them in on the last year's Wilson Ci6 or go back to the Di5, more traditional looking clubs.
If these work for you, then stick with them. If you're reading this review, try them out on the simulator before you buy them.

After a lot of research, I decided to buy these clubs. I decided to be honest with my play and look for the most forgiving clubs available. The Di7 seemed an excellent choice, both for brand, price and review.
These clubs are excellent, very forgiving. I bought the set with graphite shaft, and it was a great decision. My swing is much more natural, as the clubs are lighter, specially for the long irons.
I had a set of Ping i3 with stiff shafts, and the difference is amazing.
Maybe good players have another opinion, but if you are looking for easy to hit irons do not look further.

Customer Service

No experience, but I thing that Wilson should improve the information provided in its website, which is on the poor side.

After doing a ton of research, I decided to go with the Wilson Di7 irons. I have always been obsessed with brand names like Callaway and Taylor Made, but I figured I would rather play well than have the big name clubs for once. This decision was probably the best I have ever made! These irons are very long and very straight! They easily hit 1 club more than my old irons. Used them today for the 5th time and I hit an uphill shot from 165 with a 7-iron over the green! They do take some time getting used to the increased distance, but well worth it! My only slight complaint is the lack of a 3-iron in the set. This often makes it hard to reach the longer par 3's. However, I will gladly sacrifice this to get the crazy distance I get from these clubs. My advice to everyone looking at these is to forget the brand names and just get these! You will not be disappointed at all!
