Wilson Staff Di7 Irons

Wilson Staff Di7 Irons

DESCRIPTION

Simply stated, the new Wilson Staff Di7 irons are not like other clubs. A lower profile moves the center of gravity down for higher ball flight. A wide sole moves the CG back for greater stability and straighter ball flight. A wider tip shaft prevents twisting on off-center hits. If you want to hit it longer and straighter, try the new Di7.

Constantly in the 90's with my Taylor's (2 sets) then moved to Callaway Fusion's and saw little improvement. Switched to Wilson and agree, the shots are one club length longer and straighter from the fairway. Hit about five to eight greens in regulation now and have brought the score way down. Just have to work on the driver. One drawback is the lack of a 3 iron as I would give up distance with the wood for the accuracy of the iron shot. Still use Taylor RAC wedges.

I recently purchased a set of Wilson Di7 irons after trying out a lot at the range. I can only describe these irons as superb, I cant fault them. They feel perfectly weighted and make a fantastic sound on impact. I would suggest taking the free custom fit option as i did, I think that really helps. These Irons are ideal for any mid handicapper like myself, you wont be disapointed.

I got the wilson DI7s about 3 weeks ago and I am hitting the ball so much straighter than I did with my previous set of clubs. I haven't yet achieved my best score with these clubs but my score is consistently lower.
Also, I am hitting way longer with these irons, shots that I used to hit with my 9 iron I'm not hitting an easy pitching wedge or a full gap wedge shot.
A friend of mine has Taylor Made R7s and I much prefer the feel of the Wilson DI7s. and for the same price as the R7s you can get graphite shafts which make the walking days that much easier :)

Just got these the other week and i think they are the best thing since slice bread, very unforgiving even the 4 iron. Long distance and good height. Well worth its value

The Wilson Di7 Distance Irons are easily one club better. They are longer, straighter, and far more forgiving on off-center hits. Dollar for dollar, they are an excellent buy. I had been using graphite shafts, but went with the Di7 steel shafts because of vibration dampening technology-- worked!! These clubs would be a nice fit for both high and mid handicaps, but may launch slightly high for golfers with a very high clubhead speed. One downer was the lack of 3-iron, but most don't hit that.

Great clubs. Hit long and straight. These have to be one of the best values for the money out there. They are not quite as soft feeling as my ping g10's, but they cost so much less.

i had become a bit static with my handicap (15) after 2 years and felt that a new set of irons was needed. When I set out to buy some, Wilson Di7's were the last thing on my list, infact, I'd never thought of Wilson clubs at all. My previous irons were Ping G2 (custom fit) which had served well and got me to 15 but that was all; they seemed to lack some all round consistancy and would send the odd ball 'right' on more than one occaision, especially with the longer irons. So, at AGD Kettering, I tried numerous irons, first on the indoor analysis range, then on the outdoor range. The models tried were Cobra FP, Calaway x20, Srixion i601, Wilson Di7, Nicklaus High CT and Mizuno MX 25. At the end of the testing it was the Wilsons that gave the best results 99% of the time. The ball flies long and straight at a mid trajectory with hardly and effort put into the swing. Usually, I play with just 5 iron thru to pitching wedge but I was so impressed with the 4 iron and its ease of use that I bought that aswell. In comparison to the others, the Callaways sent the ball straight but too high, the Mizunos were not as consistant and felt wrong on impact, the Nicklaus again were high and short on distance, the Cobras (to my surprise) were awful and the Srixions were a very close second to the Wilsons in all departments bar distance. The Srixons were also £40 cheaper as they were last years model! So now I have a set of Di7s and they do exactly what I want a club to do; long and straight where I want it to go. I really have no need to be able to work a ball at my current handicap and why should I if the ball goes where I want it to!

AGD Kettering: Brilliant staff and service with plenty of patience. Couldn't ask for better.

This is a very good set of irons with the ball springing off the club face. The weighting is heavier than some other irons I tested and I found my swing was forced to be fuller. The perimeter weighting itself forces straighter balls. All the reviews in this site (inc myself)and major golf mags agree that compared to other sets, this hits at least one club longer.

Now for the gripes:
1) I find it very hard to work the ball. This is ok for the long irons but in short irons this has cost me shots. I actually took my 9 iron from my old Mizuno MX15 to replace its counterpart, for the moment anyway. This was more because I could count on distance control from this (practice range drill LW-9: full, 3 quarter, half swings). Several through the green shots just made me want to cry.

2)Attempting hard to work the ball results in the usual pulls, hooks and slices.

Please don't get me wrong, these are good clubs, but compared to the Mizunos that I had:

1) the Di7 long irons are long and easy to hit and straight.

2) the Di7 short irons are long and easy to hit but can't work em.

Some simple observations.
1)the shaft is flatter angle at the hosel (than mizuno counterpart irons)
2)the shaft is about 1 cm longer (than mizunos).

I think another reviewer found the same: he mentions he had to bend a little form 6 iron downwards.

I thought the two findings would cancel themselves out especially after my good test drive in the simulated bay but they don't. Looks like some custom fitting when I can afford it! Of course I'll work with them because of the forgiveness of the long irons alone....

I think that these game improvement irons would suit high to mid handicappers quite well with the caveat they should grow into them: ie the first branded clubs they should get after achieving some consistency/ few lessons. The straight distance factor is good enough reason to pick these up first. After a while you'll be at my stage trying to work the ball to the pin. Also anyone who is trying to achieve consistency with their current set of irons should really try these as these offer a good mid to high flight which is straight. If anything this will iron out most slices due to the way the weighting is set up (but you should be getting lessons anyway)

Customer Service

American Golf store Belfast. I find that the floor staff are polite and helpful with a good knowledge base about equipment. They have started hiring some younger faces and I have seen them deal quite well with juniors and non golfing parents who are bringing the kids who are just starting out.

I bought my Di7s with the New Year's sale at 249 pounds (currently 299). To my shock and horror, obviously someone didn't like the feel of them and found a set in the second hand shelf going at 150 2mths later. That's how I got my Mizuno MX15s 2 years before... off that same shelf! To this day however, 249 pounds is still the best price for those Di7 new.

Mizuno MX15 steel shafts. My first branded set. Lovely feel and unfussy look. I think I got used to them too well because in the end I was able to (with the 7-9 irons) fade and draw the ball fairly well but handicap was suffering due to lack of accuracy and penetration with the long irons. I hope this qualifies the negative side of my review of the Di7s.

yep - the reviews are correct - this is a sweet hitting sweet feeling set of irons - i played the distance 2's prior to this and they were good but they had a hollow feel to them even when hit pure - not so with these - lot of feedback on good hits and bad ones - irons are 1 club longer than regular clubs - they have really good feeling to them - the ball flight with these start off low then rise to a beautiful height to land softly - these will be with me for some time to come
