I usually shoot from the mid 70's to low 80's. In the past I have played forged blades, and then for a long time played Pings, as I couldn't play as much as I wanted, certainly not enough to play well with blades. I took a couple years off from golf, and decided to start playing seriously again. I was surprised how much the equipment changed even in 2 years. I did not want to play Pings again. Nothing against Ping, but you can't tell when you miss-hit a ball unless it is a really BAD miss-hit. I tried several other cavity backs, all cast, and found the same feeling to different extents. I decided to look at forged cavity backs and narrowed it to Mizuno and Titleist. After hitting both, to me it was no contest. The 690 CB's certainly are not blades, but the feedback is very close. I can definitely tell when I haven't flushed the ball, both by sound and feel. Certainly I would not recommend these to someone who has literally just started golf, but if you can break 90, you should look seriously at a set of these. Miss-hits are penalized, so don't think you are going to get a lot of forgiveness because they are cavity backed. Certainly you get more than blades, but nothing like Pings. One thing that surprised me was the distance. I picked up a full club with these.

I recently purchased my own special set of the Titleist Forged 690 Irons and PW. The feeling when swinging these clubs was like none other. I ordered mine with 5.0 flighted riffles. My swing was greatly improved. I could feel the flexibility this set of clubs gave me. With the forgiveness, every shot seemed a Tiger Wood shot. As a 2 handi-caped player I strongly recommend you this set of clubs as not only can your swing be greatly improved, it adds extra distance and height. Also, with the forgiveness, there are room for mistakes. This extravagant set furnishly lavished will add the finishing touch to that beautiful swing.

fantastic clubs for low hcp players through to mid. very easy to hit ,got mine with the 5.0 flighted rifles in them . they have a lovely feel to them . they do let you no when you havnt put a good swing on them but this just makes you swing more within yourself so along come lower scores. tried the x16pros, but the feeling with the 690cbs when hitting short irons into the greens or chipping is light and day better feeling than the x16pros. treat yourself and get these clubs this is how hitting a golf ball should feel like.

i was playing ben hogan edge pros and very happy until i whent to a demo day at my local range. i hit the 690cbs and just had to have them. i got them about 3 weeks ago now and could not be happier. i ordered them with 5.0 flighted rifles in them as i have a very smooth swing.. these clubs are slightly more forgiving but i can seem to work them more.distance i have picked up half a club. feel is awesome and they look good as well. i shoot in the high 70s mid 80s and ther is plenty of forgiveness there. tried the mbs and they were very sweet as well but i need that bit of forgiveness as well.i would say these clubs would be alright for anyone up to a 16 hcp as they make you put a good swing on the ball. and lets face it if you hit a slice or shank or a duff shot with these well even if you had a callaway in your hands you are still not going to hit a good shot.the difference with this sought of club is it rewards you on a good shot like no other and if you are slightly of it isnt to harsh but at least you no.highly recomended

Customer Service

good i only had to wait 3 weeks for custom fitted flighted rifle shafts. as i think the flighted rifles get the long irons up and away a lot easier than the dgr300.

I currently shoot in the high 70's to low 80's. After a long layoff from Golf, I decided to pick it up again. Many moons ago I played Macgregor Jack Nicklaus forged blades and actually enjoyed them while I was playing every week and hitting the driving range. Eventually life happened and I couldn't play as much, and ended up playing Pings for years (Eye 2's, Zings, ISI's). As I started playing again, I decided I was tired of not getting feedback from my ballstrike, unless I had REALLY not had a pure strike. While the Pings do give you some feedback, it isn't enough. I found it easy to have a sloppy ball strike, and still play reasonably well. I sold my Pings, and bought the 690 CB's, as I wanted some of the forgiveness of a cavity back, but wanted the feedback as well. This has given me two things I couldn't get with Pings. First, I can tell at impact when I didn't hit centered, and this is in turn is pushing me towards better, more focused ballstriking. Second, I am finding that the distance on these irons is MUCH more consistent than Pings ever were. I used to get some funny inconsistency with Pings that is gone now. I allowed myself to get sloppy playing Pings, because there wasn't really all that much difference between a pure strike and even a moderate miss. These clubs will tell you the difference. The largest difference to me is that when I wanted to hit a fade or a draw with the Pings you REALLY had to work at it to shape the shot, whereas with these, a subtle change will allow the shape to change. The first time I was on the range and set up to hit a draw with these, thinking they would be like my old Pings, it turned into more of an ugly hook. Believe me, subtle is the word here. I don't know that I would recommend these to a new golfer, but if you have played a bit, and are willing to work on your ballstriking, these clubs will easily get you to the next level. These are heavier clubs, as they don't use lightweight shafts like many of the newer "game improvement" clubs. You really have a sense for where and what the club head is doing. Summary...if you want to play golf strickly from the aspect of just going out here and wanting to just move the ball from tee to green, get some pings or callaways, or other "game improvement" type of weapons. If you want to play with the intent of being able to move the ball around the course, shape your shots, and actually play the course, and are willing to work towards getting your ball striking consistent, then these clubs are the way to go. I am looking forward to having my scores back into the mid to low 70's consistently again.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use for these clubs, but have used it in the pass for my Vokey wedges and Cameron putter...excellent experience then.

I've played about 10 rounds with these clubs. Ordered them with DG R300 shafts with half cord grips. I previously played 981s. I haven't lost any distance with the 690s. Ball flight is high, but penetrating. It's extremely easy to work the ball and to hit knock down shots. Good swings are rewarded. Toe shots will lose about 10 yards. Distance control and accuracy excellent and much better than the 981s. Try these----you won't be sorry.

I have finally found my set of clubs. I am a 24 handicap that used to be a 17. I haven't been playing too well for the last few months and have had no confidence in my iron play. I've taken lessons and it has helped a little. I typically don't swing a club for 3 months while up north. I bought these irons with Rifle Flighted 5.5 shafts off ebay and have fallen in love with them. Feedback is excellent. I can actually feel the difference between good and bad contact. Very soft feeling clubs. No harsh vibrations on the wrists when bad contact is made. A very sweet rewarding feel when hit dead on. I've expereienced about a 5-10 yard loss on length not hitting the sweet spot with not much loss in direction. Defineately better than cast clubs where the feel on every shot is the same. I demoed the 762's and they felt like I was hitting a rock. I loved the Nike Pro Combo Irons, well only the 3-7 irons which were forged cavity backs. I just couldn't be consistent the the musclebacks. I would have waited until Nike came out with a full set of forged cavity backs but this set came up that matched my fitted specs and I jumped on them. I highly recommend being fitted, it makes a BIG difference. I've spend two sessions at the range and have played two rounds with these irons since purchase. My playing partners already noticed and commented that my iron play is better. I also have won a few more skins that usual. My two rounds were 93 and a 82 and I wasn't getting off the tee that well. I actually had two out of bounds and two water balls with the 82. I would recommend to anyone looking for soft feeling feedback and willling to put some effort into their game.

I'm an intermediate golfer who occasionally manages to break into the 80s. I started playing golf two years ago and bought a set of Macgregor Tourney clubs - without really knowing much about what I actually needed. During my first two seasons I had the nagging suspicion that my clubs didn't suit my swing. I found them unforgiving and harsh. Not nearly as smooth and solid as my friends Mizunos. The problem with being an intermediate golfer is that most clubs are aimed at either “the serious golfer” or those who want maximum forgiveness from their clubs. I wanted a set that would allow me to keep on lowering my scores, but not be so forgiving that I wouldn’t get any feed back when I was playing badly. After much deliberation, It came down to two clubs: Mizuno MP30 and the 690 CBs. At first I decided to go for the Mizunos, but after reading about their high center of gravity I decided to go for the 690 CBs instead. And so far, after having played three rounds with them, all I can say is that I’m very happy. The longer irons are much easier to hit than my old clubs (which were supposed to be “game improvement” clubs…). When not focusing one hundred percent, I have a tendency to hit the ball forward on the club head, which invariably produced a fade/slice with old clubs. Now the ball comes back nicely from right to left. And the feeling when hit perfectly is just superb. I’m really glad that I ignored the “for better players only” rep. Factor in the super quality forging and that certain “feel good factor” that all Titleist clubs seem to ooze, and suddenly the price tag doesn’t seem so steep after all. Recommended.

Who said these irons are for intermediate to advanced players? I went on course for the first time this weekend and I played my best round with them. I broke 100 for the first time and had my first birdie on a par 5! I love these clubs. I was choosing between ben hogan apex pro and the 690cb when I first thought of buying a new set to replace my Mizuno CompEZ. I chose the 690cb in the end because it had a softer feel at impact and looked wonderful in my bag. I had no regrets. weight distribution is perfect and the feel at impact is second to none. it is not as hard to use as I first thought. they are fairly forgiving in the sense that mis-hit shots will still go straight although you may suffer a lose of distance by around 20 yards, my 4 iron travelled about 210 yards even though I didn't hit it at the sweetspot! Great response, you will know on mis-hit shots and on a good shot it will travel long and straight. The only drawback is the trajectory is a little too high which makes it difficult to play in windy conditions but I'm ok with that. otherwise these are great clubs and are highly recommended.
