Ping i3 OS Green Dot (+2 Offset)
I purchase these Ping i3's 1 week ago and have played twice and spent time on my local range with them. First relating to the other reviews, they are pretty much dead on. I was using an old set of Taylor Made Burners, which I sold and purchased these used for $425. The first change I noticed was that I was hitting 10-12 yards longer per club. The second change was that my shots were straight. I mean dead on the pin straight. My 7-PW irons are incredible to hit. The feel coming off these clubs is so pure. I'm a 14 handicap and I have shaved 5-6 strokes of my game thus far. This is simple due to the fact that I'm making 6-8 foot putts versus 15-25 footers. These clubs will get you close. The only knock so far is that the 3,4 & 5 do not have that same feel, even when you hit a clean shot. The ball reacts as the other clubs, however the feel is not there. I wish the included a 3 / 4 driver combo with the set. I have steel JZ Cushin shafts and my swing speed on average is 115-120mph. These clubs have restored a confidence in my game and I feel that from 175 yards and in that I'm in complete control of my game. If you can find these clubs buy them, you won't be disappointed. I'm not going to delude people into thinking that these sticks are the tools of god, but I do think they are great irons. They fly high, long, and hold their lines as well or better than any clubs I've ever hit. The shafts do a great job of dampening harsh feedback, the kind the real golfers at this site get when they catch one on the toe or a groove or two low--it lets you know where you hit it without stinging the feeling out of your hand. The clubs naturally set up square, which is a big plus, and rarely get in the way of themselves. Last week I went out for the first time of the year and on two of the par-3's hit severe toe shots that held their line and still found their way onto the service, despite the loss of about 7 or so yards. With many other sets of irons, I would have been fishing my ball from the creek in front of the green. They may be a bit cost prohibitive, but give them a try at a fitter and see if you can find a good used set on ebay. The only thing I didn't like is that even the standard grip size (white) seems a bit bulky. Customer Service Good, not great. The first set I had started to pit and rust, I think from a reaction with the chemicals on the course. Sent them off to Edwin Watts, and got them back around 3-4 weeks later, but I was quickly escalated up the chain of command and treated very well by the customer service department. Have been playing with the Ping's now for over a year and this year decided to invest in lessons. I was sick of playing mediocre bogey golf and could'nt quite swing the 4-day $3500 golf school. Why mention this? The clubs themselves are terrific feeling and performing clubs. They truly do feel like butter on contact. However, the combination of club and my pro have me shooting for mid 70's next season. Hats off to Ping and the many PGA Pro's who can help you utilize these sticks to their best. The only knock I would add here is the clubs difficulty in getting some weight into balls out of the rough. Because the club sole lacks any camber and the seemingly light head weight, they are poor performers out of the deep stuff. I thought all along it was my lightweight swing, but having read this from a professional review panel, I would wholeheartedly confirm this downside. My home course has very tight fairways and no first cut out of it. Getting any approach shot out of the wet rough is virtually impossible with these clubs. I have gone out in search of something more playable in these conditions. Customer Service Nothing short of excellent. Titleist could do well to examine Ping's committment to it. These clubs are great. I have been playing on them for about 1.5 years and I can not believe how accurate these clubs are. I am 6'4" and being able to have clubs custom fit was great I play white dot with orange grips and stiff shafts. All of my shots are high and on target. I have lost some distance due to the high flight of the ball. On my last round I never had the ball rest more than 7ft from impact....so I am no longer getting any roll even with a 3 iron. But that is a small price to pay...I now always know were they are going and where it will stay. All of this isn't to say I don't have miss hits, I do, but when I get good contact with these clubs its magic. |

I have never been a fan of Ping clubs period. However, after attending a local demo day 3 years ago I have changed my mind. After working my way up and down the line of about 40 manufacturers I decide to try the Ping rep on a whim. He took the time to try different lie angles (colors) and shaft flexes. We settled on orange dot (1* flat) with stiff steel shafts. I have never hit irons so straight in my life. Iron play is all about accuracy not distance. I can aim where I want and hit the ball to that point. I may have gained about half a club in distance, but boy am I confident. These clubs and the fitting process were responsible for dropping my handicap by 7 strokes per nine holes!!! I can't overstate this enough. If you are not going to take the time for the fitting process don't waste your money. The beauty of any Ping club is that the club can be customized for your lie (shaft) angle. This spec has a major effect on accuracy and should not be overlooked. |

Okay, you hear a lot about these clubs and I've played them for 2 years. Let's set the facts straight right off...if you have a lousy swing, then don't blame the clubs or expect them to be a cure. It just doesn't happen that way. Sure, I still hit bad shots but that's my fault, not the irons. But my good shots are better than good shots, they're great shots. On soft greens, the short irons come in high and stick. On hard greens, there's less roll and sometimes even backspin but that's rare for me. The S/P/L Wedges are phenominal and they'll play as well as any Titleist or Clevelnad models. The fact is these irons may not be as forgiving as Ping's Zing 2s but they are lot more pretty and longer. The loft is a little stronger than on earlier versions and getting the ball up isn't hard, except for me on the 3 & 4 irons which is why I don't carry those clubs. I replaced them with a 22 & 26 degrees SnakeEyes utility woods which I consisently hit well. These Pings fly are pretty straight too, when your swing isn't ugly, and also forgiving as well. I play black dot (standard lie) that I was fitted for and work for me. Distance is fine for me (LW)25-50 (SW) 45-85 (PW) 75-110 yds (9)110-120 (8)115-130 (7)125-140 (6)140-155 & (5)150-160. For me these distances are acceptable because I'm in my late 50's and have a swing speed in the low 80's (reg flex). Yeah, that's right and I'm one of the few players that will admit it but you give me the stroke difference off our indexes and I'll keep up with you when we reach the clubhouse either stroke or match play. It's where you land that mattres more, not which club did you hit to get there. Besides, my driver stats are great- consistently hit 80% fairways and distance is 230 - 270 when I nail one. I play the original Deep Red 365cc with a 46" untipped fat shaft (custom factory order). Well, that's it as I see it. Maybe Ping's G2 will be better, haven't tried them but absolutely no complaints with what's in my bag right now. Matt B. |

I have played with these clubs for 2-3 years, so I know alot about them. To start i really think these clubs should be catergarized as half blades. I have found if you want maximum feel you need to find the center of the iron. People complain about poor feel with these clubs, a almost dead feeling, this i belive happens when you hit the ball to high on the club face. I have struck alot of pure shots with these clubs and it feels nice and soft with a penatraiting ball flight. Ok you can have a off ball strikeing day with these clubs unlike with a blade, but you still need to be a good player in order to get away with it. I can also play low stingers or high shots with these clubs with ease, as well as hooking and cutting around trees. The wedges spin very well and i have found a great compination with the Titleist Pro V1 ball and these irons. I play with regular cushin shafts and i have found these to have to much flex for me. The only complaint i have with these clubs is accuracy. I have hit thousands of well struck shots which stray way to the right. All in all these clubs are real good, nice feel ( if struck well ) and even if you dont strike it well it still fells ok. I have sometise felt that there is to much bounce on the wedges e.g sand wedge but the bounce really helps on short and hard cut fairways ( for long irons ), this is when it really feels solid of the clubface. Customer Service When i got the clubs i went through the normal fitting proses and found that no adjustments needed to be changed. Things may have changed now because i was only 15 then so i have grown a bit? |

I've had these irons for 2 months now and I absolutely love them. The return on investment was immediate. After just a few weeks I've gone from shooting in the low 100s to the low 90s, and I'm just now starting to really settle into them. If only I could putt! I'm hitting each club at least 10yds longer and with a higher ball flight which has helped me approach the greens better. Even when I catch one off-center the ball still travels well without losing much distance. I highly recommend these irons for the intermediate golfer whose looking to take their game to the next level. Customer Service Haven't needed to call them yet. These clubs have completely transformed my game. I was incredibly frustrated with my Golf Smith XPC irons and actually quit playing for a year because of the over abundance of bad shots I would hit with them. My Ping I3, O-size, Black Dot clubs are smooth, easy, strong, and straight. Extremely forgiving. Major conficence builders. With these clubs, I've realized that my poor performance on the course wasn't me, but crappy clubs. I now love golf again. Thanks Ping! Similar Products Used: Golf Smith XPC irons. |
