The thing that appeals the most to me about these clubs is not the workability - yes it's there. It's not the looks, setup, feel, etc. - yeah, they're there too. For me it's the long irons. They're significantly better than any other club I've hit in recent memory albeit I've not hit the o-size. I highly recommend these. No, you won't get the hot knife through warm butter smooth feel in a pured forged blade, but the feel is rewarding and responsive enough that you know what you did. The ball flight is mid-high and the distance is solid. I can't complain a bit. Similar Products Used: MacGregor PCB Tour, Ping eye-2, TM LCG, TF Tour, Titleist 990, Hogan Apex, Mizuno MP14 & 33. |

Ping I3 Blades - Black dot
People, people! There are a ton of good clubs out there. For my money, I'll stick with the Ping I3 blades. I've tested many clubs and I'll give a short, straight answer as to why I am not switching brands - for now. I traded in recently bought Cobra's when these first came out three years ago or so. JZ65 stiff shafts. Standard straight and ready to work... Ping I3 Blades - it's a cavity back club with a blade name. It's easy to hit, easy to fit to your swing tendencies, and very, VERY, workable (I'm a 6 handicap). I even hit my 2-iron with consistency. My mis-hits results are typically not punitive and occasionally miraculous. Callaway X-14 Pro's - Decent club. Feels more rigid at contact than the Ping's. Very large appearance at address. Very expensive. Not very workable for shaping shots. Mizuno MP anything - Tougher forged blade to hit. People with game love them. I don't play enough nor do most of the players I see with them. Feel as sweet as butter when struck well (as all clubs do). Severely punished when slightly mis-hit. Ping's don't punish as severely. Very workable clubs. Titleist MB690 or CB690 - One of the best clubs, either set, out there. Great feel, great trajectory for me, and somewhat forgiving. I'd go with these but after trade in I still am out $500 out of pocket, or more, and I still shoot mid to high 70's about everywhere. Very workable clubs. Taylor Made RAC's - Rifle shaft was only good thing about the club. Very low coming off center. Very rigid feedback on all hits. Not forgiving. Workable, though. Moderately priced but accordingly priced. Macgregor VIP Tour Blades - I could hit my 7 iron as far as my 4 iron. Difficult club to hit for me. Felt like something out of the early 70's. Am I going to become a 2 or 3 handicapper with new clubs? If someone would sell me that claim I'd switch in a minute. Until then, I'm sticking with my Pings. Customer Service Never needed. Tested these irons against Titleist 762 and Cobra SS. While 762 is forgiving, but the I3 feels almost like the x-14's for a "blade". The Cobra SS was a full forged club and more or less non-forgiving even though cavity back. I've also tried the x-14 pro's in the past and TA7's as well, but have found the I3 blade to be best of all based on looks at address and feel with forgiveness. They are a huge improvement from traditional "blade". I was also informed that you can customized your order with O-size for the longer irons. This club should fit me quite well, somewhere between a real "blade" and "game improvement" irons. You don't have to be in the 70's to use these. I'm curious if anyone has tried the I3+ blade yet, not sure what the difference would be? Customer Service I've heard custom fitting is one of the best at Ping. I read 20 of the previously posted reviews. I am not sure any of those guys are using the same clubs as I am. The "nice feedback, forgiving", comments are simply not true! A mis-hit provides harsh feedback and does not go anywhere. They are anything but forgiving. Forgiving is a nice oversize club with a large sweet spot. The problem with a forgiving club is you cannot work the ball left and right. The I3 blade can be worked easily but as a 6 handicapper, consistently getting a bend that matches what the shot requires is very difficult. I often over-slice or hook the ball. I have been using the I3 blades for almost a year. Each time I am ready to give them up, I go out and knock down the flags and shoot a par round and realize that it is "my swing" not the clubs' fault. The club itself is a good club but if you do not strike the ball very cleanly you will have trouble. Even most of the pros carry oversized 3-5 irons. I wish they had less bounce too. I have a low ball trajectory and have a problem getting the low irons (3-5) in the air, especially with hard tight fairway lies. I have had to insert a 7-wood for the 200 yard high trajectory requirements. I will be buying the new I3+ oversized 3 thru 5 irons soon. The I3+ are supposed to have less bounce and more offset which should provide the forgiveness I need. If you are a single digit handicapper with fairly grooved swing these clubs are very good, if not go with a more forgiving oversized model. Customer Service FANTASTIC! I have used Pings' customer service several times. Twice changing the hosel in my driver and I had one of my irons re-shafted. I have had problems with TaylorMade customer service twice and will never own another Taylor made product (although I do like the 540 and 580 series drivers...) Ping customer service representatives have even called me at home to verify my requirements and had the clubs overnighted to me in Honolulu! Exceptional! Took 10 strokes off my game first round. After starting with older blades I knew I would undergo some improvement with an upgrade in equipment. I was a little apprehensive about using i3 blades though. I was intimidated by the word "blade". Now I can't see using anything else. I've never had so much feel and consistent length. It felt like every shot I hit was true. Now if I can just get myself out of my Firesole driver i'll be doing great! Similar Products Used: MacGregor blades |

I bought these about 3 weeks ago on e-Bay. I figured I could try them and if not for me, re-sell them, probably for a profit since I paid so little. I got them with installed true temper Dynamic Gold extra stiff shafts.I have been using extra stiff graphite on a Titleist 975-d driver and a King Cobra titanium 3 wood and have been happy with the results, but this was my first try with steel at this firmness. I took them out today to my local county course, temp in 40's no wind ground wet but not soggy. used a pinnacle ball I grabbed from the garage and was amazed at the feedback, consistency and penetrating high flight of full shots. I haven't played in three months, so I didn't try tricks or draws and fades etc., but was absolutely ecstatic with every aspect of these clubs. These are staying in my bag and my Cobra gravity Backs are either going to my condo in Florida or to auction on e-Bay! Customer Service No occasion to use. |

Best irons on the market. New i3+ could be some improvement on what is already a great iron. Feel is second to none, perfectly weighted and as with all Ping products, custom fitted. They are as forgiving as any oversized iron and are longer than any I've played. Search for a clean used set if you're concerned about a $700 price tag as I was. I was able to get a 3-PW, SW set through the above dealer at huge savings. Cannot beat this set period. Customer Service second to none as well. Best clubs I've ever hit. Make sure you get fitted properly. You can move ball both ways even though the blade is more like a cavity back than other manufacturers. Long irons have awesome trajectory from any type of lie. I have tried Hogans, Titleist, Mizuno's, and if you care how you score there's no better club. I gave these a try after hitting my Hogan Apex Pluses for a few years...just looking for something different in my iron play. The irons (3 deg up)had the stiff cushin shaft and set up nicely for me. After playing them for about a month, I was hitting them high and I made some nice shots into the greens but they still seemed a little vague on many shots. They are a nice club but just not for me.
