I just started playing about 3 yrs. ago. I had moved from "beginner" clubs to a set of Titleist DCIs and went from 115ish to the low 100s within the year. Problem is I stayed there for a long time (even after golf lessons). About 3 months ago I purchased a set of Ping i3 blades (blue dot and 5.5 rifle shafts) from Ebay and after about 3 rounds I finally broke 100!! (maybe the clubs, maybe not) I'm not "golf experienced" or anything and couldn't offer any useful advice, but I am now in the mid to low 90s consistently and I even shot an 87 at my home course! My ball flight is lower than I was used to but oh how the improved distance(about 10yds per club) and accuracy(no longer have to aim 30yds. left) makes up for it!

After years of switching back and forth (depending on my practice time available) between Ping eye2's and mizuno mp 29's I decided to look for a good compromise of the two models. I hit most of the newer models available including the mp series (30's 33's and 37's) Tried Titleist and taylormade models. but the best by far in the type of iron I was looking for was the I3's. Finding the right shaft was a bit difficult as I never considered the ping shaft as an option. So after attempts with the rifle and true temper, I tried a set (from a friend) with zz65 shafts. What a difference!! Ball flight was perfect and distance was crazy long with great control.. I wont part with my old eye 2's nor my mp 29's..However my search for a replacement irons is complete.. I would encourage anyone intersted in a new set try these at least once .. Shaft selection is the key for these heads..

A short while ago I was shopping for a modern set of irons to replace my aging Ping ISI-K's. I thought my game had progressed to where I wanted a set with fewer game improvement features so I could start working the ball and grooving my swing. I came across across a mixed set of Ping i3 irons on Ebay: 4-6 irons in the O-Size and 7-GW in the Blades. The thought of moving to blades concerned me and I noticed that most of the reviewers here shot in the 70's and 80's. I decided to demo the clubs locally before buying and after a couple of sessions, I pulled the trigger. After a half dozen rounds with these irons, I really couldn't be happier. They have a soft feel and are quite forgiving on mis-hits, especially out on the toe. With rifle 5.5 shafts, my distances are more consistent with a boring mid trajectory. And the modern lofts have added twenty yards per club compared to my old ISI-K's. It took me a couple of rounds and some range time to get used to the reduced offset, but now I couldn't go back to game improvement irons. I can actually fade or draw the ball a little and that was hard to do before. The prices on these have really come down now that the G2's are hot. Quite honestly, having hit both, I prefer the set that I have. The G2's are vague in terms of feel and I can immediately tell where I hit the ball on the face with my blades.

Customer Service

Ping adjusted the lie angles to white dot (3 degree upright) for free and turned them around in a day. I've always had a great experience with Ping.

A few years ago I went to a demo day and tried all the major brands and the ping i3 blades felt by far the most solid. I was extremely impressed with these irons. Six months later I went to another demo day and tried all the major brands again. The ping i3 blades still felt the most solid. I did not care for the o-size i3's as much. I soon bought a set of fitted i3 blades. They have a wonderful boring ball flight and are very consistant. I have no trouble working the ball from right to left but it does take some effort to work the ball left to right being a right handed golfer. But overall a very good club. I did try the new G2 ping irons a few weeks ago and I have to say that I like my i3 blades much better. They gave me a little more feedback. And the long irons very easy to hit.

Customer Service

I was fitted with 2 deg. upright and 1/2 long shafts. The clubs were delivered on time.

Been playing EYE2's for about 6 years and love them dearly . When looking for a new two iron the shop assistant offered me great price if I traded in the EYE2's for the I3's , so I got a set of demos hit the range , perhaps the worst club I've hit as far as feel goes , the short irons trajectory is low which I don't like , hit the course for a round and being in the middle of a drought in Australia ,came across a bit of hard turf and I have nothing positive to say about the sole nor anything for the club . . I hope to never see these clubs again .

Customer Service

Ping absolutely wonderful people to deal with , just luckily for me I'll never be talking to them about I3's

Bought them for a very reasonable price, they were almost as new. The first thing i noticed when i held them were the looks, i felt very good at adress, they were also slightly heavier in the clubhead then my old Ping Zings. The biggest difference comparing to the Zings (wich i also liked) were the ballhit. When hitting my old Zing i never got the same feeling in the hit, it did´nt matter where i hitted the ball at the face, always the same feeling. But with the i3:s i get a more solid feeling when hitting the sweetspot. I was worried by the fact that i stood Blade on the head that all the less good hits would be much worse. But honestly that problem does´nt exsist, they´re as forgiving as my old Zings. Just love the feeling when getting a real sweetspot hit, very good ballflight as well. So dont let the Blade fool you, it´s a very forgiving club, with a slight smaller head wich i also like. One of the differences between the Oversize model and the Blade are the offset wich is a lot less on the Blades, i seem to hit better with less offset (and it feels much better at adress as well), never going back to clubs with much offset again. Just love the Ping i3.

When I first received these irons through the mail I immediately went and hit a bucket and walked nine holes. I was immediately impressed with a number of things. 1) launch angle (low and penetrating) 2) consistency (every similar struck ball traveled the same distance) 3)launch direction (very easy to hit straight shots) 4) set-up (thinner top line). As time went on and the initial "newness" had vanished I began to understand my clubs. They were virtually unworkable for me. I had a tough time working the ball well to any direction. I niticed that the ball flight for both fades and draws would simply not curve but rather fly straight in the direction it was intended to go. For example, if I wanted to hit a draw around a tree that was 50 yards in front of me I would miss the tree but the ball would land well to the right of the target (where I was aiming ). I worked with my professional on this and he (a ping hater) was clueless. He said that the offset has a lot to do with it but that should not prevent the ball from fading altogether. In the end, I just got a set of rac lt which apparently have less offset. I sure wish they made a club today that was both extreamely forgiving and workable.

Just love it! I went from MacGregor Murfield Jack Nick in the late '70s to Hogan PC in the mid '80s to 4 yrs ago Hogan Apex blade; but I just can't hit them dead on center anymore. My playing partner let me use his set for 2 rounds and rest is history. Couple of years ago I would have never thought that I would be hitting a set of investment cast iron, but it's time! I just don't play enough anymore. I never thought they would feel this good. I went back to playing softer balls for better feel with these clubs. I'm on my way back to scratch again! I still think that 5,4,3,to 2 iron can still use less offset; high fades are hard to hit, but who's complaining?

Customer Service

None, bought it used for half the price on e-bay & put new grips on.

I've had the clubs for about a year and a half and have had mixed results. The mid and long irons hit the ball well with plenty of distance, but they aren't that great around the greens. The wedge and sand wedge are difficult to align and, as with the other short irons, aren't precise with it comes to direction. I stopped using the sand wedge and bought a Ben Hogan SW. What a difference! Also, I've had a problem with two of the clubs requiring me to send them back to PING for repair. I'm moving onto Mizuno MX-20s. My PINGs will be available on GCE or Ebay shortly. Make me an offer.

Customer Service

Disappointing. The shaft in my 4 iron became bent (almost collapsed) at the grip. Sent it back and PING claimed I must have closed in a car trunk or run over it. They refused to repair it for free. Then, just last week I hit the 9 iron on a par 3 over an environmental area when the head of the club slid off the shaft and landed in the swampy hazard. I could not recover it. The shaft wasn't damaged, the head just slipped off the end. Even the cheapest Northwestern club from K Mart wouldn't that. I thought I was getting quality when I bought PING, but having sent two clubs back in the last 4 months makes me wonder. It's been a week and a half and PING can't even tell me whether they received the shipment. (Luckily UPS confirmed their receipt) I was told by the PING repair department that they have been busy (no suprise based on my experience) and they would get back to me when they looked at the shaft. Great, another couple weeks without a 9 iron.
