Having played blades most of my life I was surprised to find myself debating between the i3s and a host of "game improvement" clubs. It came down to a sort of reverse kind of thinking: which clubs would require me to have a real golf swing and which ones would largely make up for a poor one? I went with the i3s thinking if I can play well with these I can move to the next level (actually ... return to playing scratch golf). When I got the i3s (stiff shaft) I hit them relatively poorly; especially at the range. I would strongly suggest hitting off grass when making your decision; the minimal offset and reduced bounce may not play well off of rubber surfaces-- depending on your swing. After several rounds hitting a wide array of shots -- I love them. Hitting it solid, significant spin on short irons. It is a very solid club. Some players may wish to mix the blades and O-size (possibly going with the Os for the 3-4 irons.) but I really like the minimal offset/bounce in the short and middle irons. You may need an adjustment period (a round or two)to really see how well these clubs perform, but I think you will be very happy with the blades; especially if you are a lower handicap golfer.

After much debate I decided upon the I3 blades. I am still not quite sure if the lie is appropriate, but the clubs do hit very solid, but rather high (so high I'm now known as the "rainmaker"). I believe this is inhibiting my distance (my 4 iron = my buddies 6 iron)and I have had accuracy problems (missing too many greens). To alieviate this I am pondering having my head bent to 1 or 2 degrees stronger.

Still I can't give up on these sweet feeling clubs. Despite being "coyote ugly", they sure hit good.

So good that I KNOW that once I get my trajectory problem solved I WILL stop leaving strokes on the course and I'll be consistently shooting in the 70's.

I think the PING fitter may have sold me the wrong lie. I think Black would be fine , but I was sold Greens.

I got these irons about two weeks ago. I used them at 4 tournaments and my rounds were 79, 80, 84. I placed 3rd, 5th, 5th. Those scores are not great but, my consistantcy is much greater with the i3's. I use to have the 990's, which where hard to hit consistantly, Apex blades which where just like the 990's. And I had X-14's which I could never get use to the offset. I seem to hit the ball better, but my putting is bad. These irons are good irons, but if you are going to get them get them fitted, it helps alot.

Model Reviewed: I/3 Blade with ZZ-65 Steel Shaft

What can I say that hasn't already? These are great clubs.

First, I liked the zz65s better than the standard JZ, noticably stiffer and didn't seem to that the clubhead lag that the JZs do. I almost got DGS, but liked the slightly lighter feel of the ZZs.

Second, I have read some reviews that these are unforegiving. Compared to what? The I3 Blades are much more foregiving any tradional blade and any forged cavity back on the market. If you are a decent iron player who needs some help on misses, these are great. If you hit all over the face, look at the Oversized and take lessons.

Lastly, the new grips are great. Finally, Ping makes a great looking club and puts a good grip on it.

i recieved my ping I-3 Blades white dot 3/4 inch longer stiff shaft clubs 8 days ago. i'm a legit 16-17 hcp. i went with the blades from recommendation of my pro who thinks i am improving rapidly in 2 1/2 years of playing. i started playing Ping eye 2 two irons that were used a few years ago. i have been shagging balls every day trying to get used to them and i played 4 rounds of golf this week. my scores were 77, 89, 80, 79. they have been really accurate and the irons check really well. my hcp has dropped to 13-14. i have no reason to lie, these clubs have been great. you wont be disappointed. i love them. Just got my Ping I3 blades two weeks ago and love them. I live in the area so went right to Ping to get fitted, am glad I did. Ended up with stiff steel shafts (used to have graphites) and what a difference! My handicap is 10-11 usually and since getting them, my last five rounds have been 85, 81, 79, 78 and 75 (tied for my best-ever round!). I can even hit the 3 & 4 irons consistently. Great feel and accuracy, just love playing with them.

Just received my I3 blades--silver dot, standard lenght. Decided on graphite stiff shafts instead of the JZ steels. So far (practice only) the short irons (6-sw) are amazingly easy to hit and accurate. The long irons (3-5) are also easy to hit but I seem to hook these more than I would like. I'm inclined to believe the softer graphite shafts are too soft for my swing speed (s-300). In addition, the larger off-set of the longer irons may be contributing to my hooks.

I have temporarily solved my problem by playing with my old Nicklaus blades for the long irons and the Pings for 6-sw.

All in all a great club. Hookers be very aware when considering these clubs!!!

I just played my first 18 with my new I3's. I was fitted by a local pro and if the first 18 is a sign of things to come I will be very pleased. These are the best irons I have ever hit. I had to trouble adjusting to hitting the long irons. Also the forgiveness is still included somehow with these clubs. I hit them long and straight and would recommend these clubs to anyone. They set up nice and have a great feel around the greens. I ordered the black dot with the JZSteel in stiff and had my irons in less than a week. They are definetly worth the money. Much more forgiving than the T-Zoid pros but still set up like a blade. I am glad I made the switch.
