Ping G5 Irons

Ping G5 Irons

DESCRIPTION

Designed in multiple sections for maximum performance, the radius of the lead edge helps improve ground impact for better ball impact. Enhanced perimeter weighting maked the G5 iron very forgiving. By increasing the moment of inertia, off center shots are straighter and distance loss is decreased.

I have played Callaway X-12’s for about the past decade. I liked these sticks but found myself pull hooking a lot of shots. I thought I needed clubs with less or no off set. I tried several other brands including various Callaway’s, but pretty much hit them the same. I went to a local demonstration day and tried many clubs, from different manufacturers. I was impressed with the guy at the Ping tent. He took time to fit me right there. I have since bought these and played several rounds with these clubs. I will have to say WOW! I am hitting my irons much straighter than I ever have. My old clubs had graphite shafts-my Pings have steel but there is no loss of distance. I also bought the G5 wedges and those things almost swing themselves. I still have the occasional pull but the pull hook is gone. I am a believer in getting fit for clubs. Yes, these clubs have off set but they fit me to a tee. This is my first tine for a fitting and it is something everyone should do. I have more confidence in these irons than any thing I have ever played. They work in every situation I have faced on the course. Tight lies, rough, sand shots, side hill lies, you name it. They have really changed my game.

Customer Service

I havent tried them, no need, but there fitting is first rate.

I've had Ping Eye2's for the past 18 years. In that time, I hadn't found anything that came close to the performance of those clubs, until now that is.

The G5s are a terrific club overall. Long, high and straight with terrific feel! I'm hitting about 1.5 clubs longer with these. The lofts are definitely stronger compared to the Eye2's, but the heavier clubhead and lower kickpoint on the CSlite gives me just as high of a ballflight, if not higher than the Eye2's

Got custom fitted at a fitting day, and I recommend that you do the same if at all possible. The man I worked with was very nice and very thorough in what turned into about an hour long session.

It's Ping. Enough said.

All I can say is WOW!!!!
I had been playing Callaway for the last three years, and very happy with them.

I got the new X18 pro this year and had a lot of trouble with hooks. I traded them in for the G5s, and what a difference.

My game is back and straight as ever.

I have played three times, and all have been 79, 79 and 78.

Great clubs, excellent control and trajectory.

This year, my annual golf club "mental Illness" hit and I went out and bought a new set of Cleveland CG4's. After three rounds, my son,(2 handicap), casually mentioned that he had not yet seen me hit a crisp shot with them! I had crept back up to an average score of about 90. Very frustrating.

Then I had a conversation with a gentleman at "Nevada Bob's" in Bloomington, MN. He had me try the Ping G5 irons and went through the entire custom fit routine with me. Well, I think my illness is cured! The very first round out, I fired a 74 to my son's 76! It was fun to stuff the youngster for a change!

I find that the distance is much better than the CG4's and mis-hits still have some power to them. They are not quite as pretty as the CG4's, but then what is pretty about a 95? I find that I draw the ball slightly with these irons and will have to make an adjustment to the distance control due to the added length that a draw generates.

I have since settled in and have shot several rounds in the high 70's and many in the low 80's which is good for me as the difference between a low score, an average score, or a high score is now my putting, not poor iron play.

I know that golf is hugely dependent on one's mental state and these clubs have replaced the thought of "I hope that I can find this one after I hit it" with "I am going to aim this one at the right trap, draw it in, and it will roll up to the cup." It definitely makes the game fun again. I highly recommend these clubs for someone looking to inject the fun back into their game!

Customer Service

Very good. The custom fitting is, I'm sure, a big part of the improvement that I have seen. I ordered the clubs on a Monday and they showed up on my doorstep on Friday morning!

Having purchased the Ping G5 irons some 6 months ago, these clubs have not only improved my game but my confidence to attack the pin. Within 3 months I'd moved from High 80's to low 80's, and within the past 4 weeks shot my two best rounds of 79 and 76. Custom fitted is a must, the only change I made was buying tour SW & LW both added to my game. Top marks for the supurb irons, looking next to consider G5 Driver...

Customer Service

The customer fitting was excellent at portsmouth Golf club, the pro's were helpful and provided excellent guidance toweards the best fit.

Simply put, these are the best irons I've ever played. For example, in my second round with these irons, I had birdie putts on 3 consecutive holes for the first time in my 40 years of golf. Here are my observations after three rounds with them and during my testing of these clubs vs. Callaway X-18's, Cleveland CG4's and Ping I5's.

* I've probably gained 5 yards from the original Lynx Black Cats they replaced. In my testing, I found no discernible difference in distance between the X-18, CG4, I5 and G5.

* The G5's have a slightly higher trajectory than the other irons tested and my previous irons.

* These clubs have feel. A flushed shot feels like a flushed shot. Heel and toe hits can be distinguished as well. This was a pleasant surprise - I didn't expect this much feel in a game improvement club. While I hit the X-18's about as well, for me they had no feel whatsoever-every shot felt the same. The I5's had slightly more feel than the G5's.

* The clubhead is heavy enough to feel where it is throughout my whole swing. I could not feel the CG4 as well, perhaps because of that lightweight metal they use.

* The look at set-up inspires confidence. Plus, I the satin finish doesn't reflect the sun as much.

In summary, in 3 rounds with the G5's, I've probably hit more high quality iron shots than I did in the previous 25 rounds before I got them. The only way they could be better is if they would swing themselves so that I could stay seated in the cart and sip on a Gatorade (hot day) or a Miller Lite (cooler day).

Customer Service

No direct experience with Ping, however, I was fitted by Ringo's Golf Center in Valparaiso, IN and I feel they did an outstanding job. The irons were standard length, regular flex CS Lite steel shafts and my lie angle is 1* flat (Ping's red dot.)

Before purchasing the G5 irons I demo'd almost every iron available. No matter how hard I tried I always found myself holding every iron to the standard set by the Ping G5 irons. These clubs simply hit the ball high, straight, and long. The fitting process was amazing as I found my ball flight go from a slight fade or slice, to a soft draw as my color code was dialed in to a white (3 degrees upright). I never fully understood how custom fitting could help my game, but now I would never buy an off the shelf set again. Since I started using these irons a couple of months ago my accuracy and distance have increased dramatically, and I am now able to stop the ball on the green and even have it check up and come back with the short irons. I would highly recommend these clubs to anyone looking for "game improvement irons".

These are the best irons I have ever played with. They are so soft that you don even feel hitting the ball. I had 4 rounds with these & I had more birdies than the whole year 05. I bought the G 5 from 4 iron to 7 then I 5 from 8 irons to U for scoring. It is a great combination.

Customer Service

Never had any, too new. I'm sur Ping stands behind their products. No worry there.

I was playing the 2002 Callaway Big Bertha for 4 years. They are forgiving but a lot less "sweet" or "feel" than the Ping. I tried many other clubs before deciding on the Ping. Taylor Made, Big Bertha, Wide Fusion, Cleveland, Nike & even Honma.
