Ping G5 Irons

Ping G5 Irons

DESCRIPTION

Designed in multiple sections for maximum performance, the radius of the lead edge helps improve ground impact for better ball impact. Enhanced perimeter weighting maked the G5 iron very forgiving. By increasing the moment of inertia, off center shots are straighter and distance loss is decreased.

360 Degrees best describes after all the money spent and all the Newest Gimmicky Clubs available. Long story Short, my old 64 year old frame with bad back and wearing a Pacemaker/Defribillator, I carried a 5 Handicap. Greed, curiorsity, and a little craziness made me try all the other clubs hoping for improvement. After a small fortune spent-hope my wife doesn't read this-I bought another set of G5s in CS Lite Regulars. The the Sun Shown Thru the clouds, lost my glazed look and started hitting longer, straighter...and even was able to work the ball and landing on my Greens in Regulations with the balls sticking like Velcro.

Lesson learned, if you have a good set of clubs, do not fall for the "Gimmicks". It your clubs work, have a pro check your swing...hell of alot cheaper...and the problem is fixed.

The Ping G5s are in my bag for good!

Customer Service

The Quality of the clubs never required me to use Customer Service. A little long for special orders, but well worth the wait.

Model Reviewed: PING G5 IRONS

I'm 64 with a bad back and a pacemaker/defibrillator and with my G5 irons, I was a 5 handicap 2 years ago. After morgaging my house, selling my first born, I tried every new gimmicky iron out there to present. I was down to a 5 handicap with the G5s and found myself basing all the irons, such as Mizuno 32, 60, 67, Callaway X Tours, x18, Big Berthas, F2s, Ping Raptures, etc etc my handicap balloned to a 12. Having regained my frustrations and glazed look in my eyes, I finally went back and tried a G5s with the CS Lite Regular Steel Shafts. It was like finding the girl you left behind and found her again, only twice as good.

My handicap begain dropping immediately and my confidence went up. The G5 Irons hit farther, straighter and very surprisingly, workable for a game improvement club. I feel that everytime I stand over the club, the ball will hit where I want it to go resulting in more GIRs.

If my wife only knew what I spent my lesson was learned the hard and expensive way-still trying to buy back my first born- that when you have a club that works well, don't get greedy and fall for the marketing gimmicks out there. It's a hell of alot cheaper to get a few lessons to work out a small flaw with a good set of clubs.

You'll save alot of money and and headaches. My old consistent swing is back with these clubs wear out, I'll buy another set just like my G5s.

Customer Service

The clubs are so good that I never had to use customer service. Special clubs take a little longer than usual to fill, but well worth it.

I love my G5 irons. I wasn't a serious golfer until I took this last summer off. I know most of my improvement came from proper lessons. From 115 down to consistent low 90s. And my record low of 84. I have confidence in these clubs and would buy them again, or the Raptures. I've let other good golfers hit them and they can't believe how easy they are to hit straight, and how they good they are on mis hits. Also bought driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. Spent a lot but I'll keep them a long time. Love the way they wear too. They don't look all beat up like the shiny chrome Callaways I had previously too.

Customer Service

Not used Ping, but Golfsmith has been AWESOME. Used 90 day playability guarantee a few times and it really saved me to get the clubs I want.

13 year old Ping copies. Callaway X-18's (look great when new but a few hits and they don't look so hot). Plus my pro feels they don't line up properly, so I traded them back for the Pings. GET FITTED and look at Ping, Taylor Made, and Mizuno.

Never bought new before. Went to get fitted and the (last) set in the shop didn't need to get altered. I always wanted a set of Ping irons and I will never go back to anything else. I get the same straightness and feel as the other reviewers the only problem as I don't always hit the ball flush is which club to choose because these are 2 clubs longer than my older Clevelands when caught as well as I can. The other thing is the backspin on the greens from 100 + yars - never seen or experienced anything like it - my mates think I must be having lessons. BUY SOME !!

Bouhgt from American Discount in Cardiff - good service.

I played with Ping Eye 2s for 21 years and wanted to switch to graphite shafts. These clubs are great, lighter than the Eye 2s and very easy to swing. My distances are very similar to those of the Eye 2s and I would recommend them to anyone.

Actually, high 80's, low 90's. The G5 irons are great for women. These give me consistant distance (go to a good range or a field with marked distances to figure out what you carry and the total length with each iron) and are very forgiving on the mis-hits.

I have played Callaways for the past 3 years but pulled the trigger and bought new G5's this year. I had had ping clones when I was young and couldn't afford the real thing so I think my inner kid was saying "buy the G5's becasue you can!" Well I did and this summer I went from a 20+ hndcp down to a 15 and trending lower. Without getting too technical, these clubs just work. I was fit and ended up at a +3 white lie angle. Get fit!

Customer Service

Iron play used to be my strong point. I had a set of Wilson TN 1200's that I hit very well. Four years ago I bought a new Taylormade 540 XD Driver and fell in love. I absolutely crushed it and subsequently purchase a Taylormade 580 3,5, and 7 wood that I will never part with. However, since the woods worked so well for me, I purchased a set of RAC HT's right off the rack with graphite shafts. The biggest mistake I ever made. I never hit the irons well and eventually lost all confidence. Then my daughter gave me a gift certificate to Golf Galaxy in Rochester, NY. I took the HT's with me for trade in and got fitted for the Ping G5's. WOW! The young man that fit me laughed because I turned out to be a silver(4 degrees upright) and the shafts were made an inch longer. I am 6' 2" and have an upright stance so I could never have picked a set off the rack. These are the finest irons I have ever used. I now hit shots that I could only dream about, two months ago. Do yourself a favor, GET FITTED! All the difference in the world. I have hit almost every quality iron made at one time or another and nothing comes close to the Ping G5 in Look, Feel, Balance, and Playability.

Almost afraid to write this review, don’t seem to be in sync with the others who have reviewed here, but what the hell, here is what I can tell about the G-5.
I play in the high 80 to low 90 range during the summer, I can easily hit a hundred in the off season. I have some feel around the greens and my putting stroke is not too bad. Tee box is always an issue, but as far as iron play goes:
The irons I played before were fitted TM LTs with rifle steel shafts, before that were Titliest 822OS, they were fitted and had Aldila gold graphite. I started learning the game with Callaway X-12s and the standard uniflex shafts.
The Titliest OS were great clubs, point and shoot and they delivered, the TMs were a bit problematic as they didn’t convey any more feedback, not really a lower trajectory and didn’t seem to be any more workable other than a bad shot.
The G-5s, for me, seem to produce a very noticeable draw, good distance and accurate every time. Distance is constant and the draw does add yardage. An easy swing and you get what you want, who could ask more from a club?

The best clubs that I have ever played with. These clubs feel great, and I have never had the confidence in hitting my irons like I do with these. I was a die hard Cleveland loyal customer until I tried these clubs.

Customer Service

Ping customer service is second to none. You may pay more for the clubs but there is a reason why
