5'6 about 150lbs, got the Ping G2 3-5HL, 6-P irons, red dot, CS lit steel shaft, regular grip. It is both the best/worst clubs I ever used. I love it when I first tried them at shop, without too much thinking I traded in my Slingshot for G2. I waited 10 business days for my custome clubs to arrive. The first 2 weeks was a stuggle to hit good shots with it because they are toooo light (swingweight at C-9). I knew how light they are before I bought them, but I thought I could get use to the swingweight and I failed to inform Ping to add more weight when I placed my order. For that 2 weeks period, I thought this is a waste of money, how can people hit this crap? This must be made for slower swingers and older people with tennis elbows. This must be the worst clubs... and I almost traded in for Taylormade OS. I now have changed the swingweight to D-2 and what a difference. G2 now became most lethal irons people can get (besides forged irons). I now can understand why other players are saying their praises about how straight, and long the G2s are. I did not observe any major differences in distance when comparing 6-P to any other brands. But I did observed major distances and trajectory (change for the better) from 3-5 HLs. They are longer and higher.

Model Reviewed: Ping G2 Irons (black dot)

I've had these clubs for about 10 months now, so I can offer a longer term review of them. I had been playing my Dad's old beryllium ping eye 2 "red dot" irons for about 10 years before I decided to upgrade my iron set. Let me first say that I'm not the sort to fiddle around with clubs every season. In my mind, if the ball goes where I want it to and does what I want it to do, why switch? Right? Well..... I was on the driving range one day happily hitting away when the Ping club set system was rolled up. Being a curious and meddlesome fellow by nature, I started messing around. In previous years, I'd hit the ping zing, i3's, and all sorts of taylor made, mizuno, callaway, and cobra irons and not really been impressed enough to consider putting my eye2's in the storage closet. I took out a G2 7 iron, swung, and fell in love. The Ping club fitter could see I was smitten, and wandered over to arrange the nuptuals. Within an hour we were married. But I had to wait 10 days before I could bring my bride home from her parents' home in Arizona (the Ping factory, for those of you who are confused). Word of advice: If you get these clubs, have them fitted right (even though I'm only 5'5", I found out I was a "black dot" player. My dad is the same height but is a "red dot"). I had been playing stiff graphite, but found I hit the G2's with steel shafts the best. I can say that I am consistently hitting these clubs a solid 15 yards further. My 5 iron has gone from 170 yrds to a solid 185, my 7 iron from 150 to 165. And the forgiveness is really something special as well. I'm sure that this is partly due to having the right "dot" for my body, but also of course to these superb clubs. Now as many of you know, the beryllium eye2's are legendary. Well these G2's are so good, they convinced me to switch. Simply put, these irons feel wonderful. People often talk about the feel and feedback you get from a blade, but you get that from this cavity-back club as well, and also forgiveness. And you can work the ball if you want (although it's not as easy as with my Dad's blades). Don't expect these irons (or any clubs for that matter) to make you a better player. Do expect them to give you consistent distance, control, feel, and forgiveness. I know I'll be playing these irons for another 10 years. Try them. You'll buy them. Now if I can just find a way to beat my Dad.....

Since this is my first club that I got fitted with, I have to admit that it's not sure whether my significant shot improvement is due to the club itself or the fitting. I think, though, this is the best game-improvement club I've ever used. It gives me enough feedback despite clunky heads. The CS Steel shaft is as light as other firm graphite shafts. It perfectly fits to my swing speed. 3,4 HL irons are just perfect enough to replace my other wood shaped utility clubs. I definitely recommend you'd get fitted before using these irons. Different companies set different lie angles as standard. So, It would be best if you got fitted.

I've bought a lot of irons over the last 5-10 years thinking they'd help my game. (WRONG! Only practice and lessons really help.) After a long Northeast winter of exhaustive research (thanks to everyone on this forum for some great reviews) I decided to finally take "wrong clubs" out of the equation. I got properly fitted at a reputable shop, hit a lot of different clubs, put my ego aside, bought "new" (instead of used), spent the dough and, at the risk of sounding preachy, decided to buy American. The G2's are really wonderful clubs. Very forgiving, very straight (I just want to hit it straight!), and slightly longer than the last couple of sets I've owned (length was not a factor, though). I was not crazy about the look of the clubs when they were first introduced, but realized that today's groundbreaking designs are likely to be tomorrows classics. Good example is the Eye 2, which was way out there in the early 80's and has matured into a timeless design. Still getting used to the look of the blue medallion..... I'm a digger with a fairly steep approach. The G2's have a perfect amount of bounce and allow me to take a good divot without going deep as I often do. Probably the biggest plus for me so far. The HL long irons are fabulous. Again, not significantly longer than other long irons, but very, very straight and a high trajectory. I like the fact that they behave like a hybrid but look like the rest of the set, especially at address. Centered hits are very buttery; off center hits are not harsh and hold the line. Liked the G2's enough that I bought a MB 54* wedge. Great feel. As good as, or better than, Vokey raw and Cleveland Gunmetal. Overall very pleased with my purchase and looking forward to a great season. These clubs make me want to play, and play better.

I've talked to Ping a couple of times over the years and have been very happy with their willingness to help. My special order set arrived in less than a week. I do like the fact that Ping products are US made. Makes me feel like I'm doing my part.

tried these clubs at a demo day. fell in love with them from the start. very easy to hit clubs, mis hit shots still went pretty good with minimal distance loss. would love to just ditch my mp33s and get a set of these. they reminded me of a improved version of the eye2 irons. the sole of the club makes it very easy to just slide along the turf rather than dig like blades. would suggest these irons for any level of golfer.

I originally was interested in the s59's & the I3's. When I got fitted I hit the G2's and loved how they felt compared to the others mentioned above. As an 8 handicap who couldn't hit a 3 or 4 iron (always hit hybrids) and rarely hit a 5 iron well, I needed the forgiveness the G2's offer. I consistently hit my 3 & 4 iron without hesitation now and got rid of the hybrids. I feel I can hit every iron in my bag and it's really been fun to be able to hit the long irons. The added confidence the G2's have given me has been worth every penny. Ball flight is excellent, high and drops softly. If you're interested in any of the Ping irons, get fitted at least 3 times if not more.

Customer Service

Excellent, the best I have dealt with. Ping's got their act together when it comes to customer service.

Bought these last fall,I've played cobra ss, mac. 1025 the last year looking for irons that would help my game.Well I found them in these. The easyest clubs I,ve hever hit the the feel is as good as any cast club could be, and you can work the ball left or right. I got the hl model 4 and 3 iron very nice and versatile, but I believe you should get the fit for the irons as the one degree up has really help my shot making.they are not cheap but they'r made in the US so it's worth the extra cash.

These clubs have made a marked improvement to my game. In the ten rounds I have played since I got my G2’s, I have dropped an average of 6 strokes off each current round. The biggest improvement has come from the HL irons (3-5). They have returned confidence to hitting my long irons. Even less than perfect contact provides a good result, and the less than perfect shots are few and far between. The “regular” irons (PW-6) also have added to my game. Traditionally a low ball hitter, the have added both height and distance to all my shots. The PW still has some getting use to, visually I still have a hard time standing over the thick top line and having confidence in hitting a shot other than a full swing. I don’t think this club will ever replace my Cleveland wedges.

Customer Service

Awesome - After a thorough fitting, my clubs were order and delivered in 6 days.
