I became a Golf Addict 4 years ago. Messed about at local 9 hole, par 3 course every night for 3 months with a cheap crappy set of irons. As I became hooked on the game I decided to invest in some decent clubs. I decided on Ping (I liked the name!) and had a look on e-bay. Bid $200 on a set of Ping Eye 2's and won.
Took them to the Par 3 course and became a Golf Junkie. The feeling of the club head going through the ball with the eye 2's was beautiful. When I found the sweet spot it felt like a knife through soft butter. Effortless. The weighting of the clubs were incredible. They just felt good at address. They filled me with confidence. I found the 6 iron - SW so easy to hit, game improvement irons they are.
Over the years I upgraded to Ping G'5s and sure they were even more forgiving and easy to hit but they just did not have the same feel of the Eye 2's.
By the time I had become an Ok golfer, joined a regular club and playing off 15 I was experimenting with shaping the ball.
I found the G5's so forgiving with rediculous amounts of bounce but never felt like I could really fade and draw the ball the way I wanted. Then I went back to the Eye 2's. I can't really describe how incredible it was to hit them again as a better player than when I'd started. I drew the ball and faded the ball at will , they must be the nearest to blades you can get only with all the forgiveness and tolerence of mis its. I love the Eye 2's and have just bought a set of Copper ones which I will keep for life. That simple. Yes all the technology makes irons easier and easier to hit however the pure pleasure of ball striking with the Eye 2's is as good as it gets. They are simply awesome irons.

I have just started out playing golf about three years ago when I was about twelve. I started out with a set of ADAMS irons. My dad is an avid PING irons collector, but of all the sets he had he continued to play with his EYE 2's. He finally convinced me to buy a set and tyr them for myself. It was the best decision that I ever made. They are the most forgiving clubs that I have ever hit, and they are very cheap, (less than $300). Over the course of a month, I dropped by handicap by about 10 strokes. I love those old clubs.

After reading the reviews here I decided to spend a few hundred dollars on Ebay to pick up a set of Ping Eye's. I was able to find them in the '+' for less than $400.

Much more feel and control than my one year old Clevelands.

It is astounding and amazing that after 20 years these irons still rock.

I am now on the hunt for a Copper set I can buy cheap and just keep for the rest of my life.

Model Reviewed: Eye 2 + no +

Picked up the set, matching numbers, 2-PW for $175 on Ebay, seller didn't know it was a plus no plus set... :-) I have had several sets of Eye2's over the years, coming back to them is really nice.. they do have to be the best designed set of irons ever, especially the plus head with stronger lofts and a bit less offset. The only thing is that I don't care for the Ping shafts, but changing to an R300, the swing weight goes up from C8 to D3 (approx) and the irons, for me, go from good to great. If you can find the + no +, grab them fast, if not, the + model is better than the original, IMHO. Re-shaft to your favorite, and the set is as good and mostly much better that everything new out there! Rest in peace, Karsten old boy, you did real good.

Ping and Callaway are the best.

Was in Myrtle Beach on my annual golf outing with 23 of my hometown guys this weekend. Went in Martins to have my driver regripped when I saw a set of Ping Eye 2 + wedges, 2-PW, KT shaft, new grips, blue dot... for less than a song... I grabbed them and headed for the driving range... the next two days, I played the best golf of my life... These models are all the same serial number and have very little offset, which I like. I carry a 6 handicap now, and I have never hit a better golf club. When you address the ball and look down at them, they seem to somehow "square you up" to the line and help you take the club back correctly. I read some reviews where guys complained about not being able to work the ball with Ping Eye 2+ clubs... I can easily work the ball with these clubs...I line my feet up on the line I want the ball to start and line the club face up to my target, and swing back parallel to my stance line... the ball fires crisply off the face, then when the velocity slows enough for the dimples to grab some air, the ball banks left or right like an airplane. They are the most forgiving, easiest to hit, yet accurate clubs I have ever played. I really believe that club makers have to come up with a new model every couple of years to gen up revenue. That doesn't mean it's superior to earlier club designs... the Ping Eye 2 + is the best club ever made...and now, my gosh, you can buy a used set for under $200... But the price doesn't matter. If you see a set of Ping Eye 2s in a guy's bag, and you see alot of them... that guy is a player. The knock, if there is one, on this club is that the irons carry slightly more loft than other irons, which means they might not carry as far a other irons... but who cares? That's why we carry fourteen clubs!! My grandfather use to tell me that, when you come in the clubhouse, they don't ask what you hit, they ask what you shot...and that's good enough for me. My recommendation is to walk, no run to the nearest golf shop and buy a set of used Ping Eye 2s... like me, you'll love 'em!!!

Model Reviewed: Ping i10 irons

After playing golf for over 25 years and using every brand of golf club I became an avid Ping club user. I played the Eye2+ irons for 10 years as well as the S59's for the past 2 years with no complaints what so ever. Not only were these irons very playable they are with out equal when it comes to craftsmanship as well as durability. Short and sweet {these clubs are indestructable}. With this being said I went ahead sight unseen and purchased the new i10's. Not that I consider myself to be a great ball striker (HDCP 3); but I do like to move the ball right to left or left to right when need be. The Eye2+'s and the S59's preformed this duty with ease so when considering a new set of irons I once again looked at Ping for the solution. The i10 is marketed to be a players iron with forgiveness. I can without a doubt tell you that these are the worst players irons that I have ever hit, they feel clunky and with the "glob" of weight on the bottom of the toe they are impossible to manuever the ball right to left with a normal draw swing. If you consider yourself a player I would not recommend these irons, instead I would go with the S58 or S59's. Ping needs to revisit their marketing for this product and sell them as a game improvement iron in a smaller blade. Sorry Ping but you have disappointed me with this product. With this being said I will still buy Ping products in the future. Currently I am trying to sell these so that I can purchase their S58's.

Ping has always been top notch

It still amazes me that a club that is more than 20 years old still holds up against the best of today-or even better
I would say!
I have three different sets, two of them BeCu and I alternate between them.
People don`t realise that instead of buying a new set of Callaways or other they can for dirt cheap buy a set of Eye2
that are equally good!
Eye2 Rules!

I just purchased a set of Eye 2 +, 3-LW. The have KT shafts, and although "used" when I purchased them, were as close to untouched as I have ever seen. Several irons had not been swung, and even the SW and LW were mint. I have used many different sets over 30+ years of golf. My pattern has been to alternate blades and cavity backs every so often. Given that the Eye 2 was the ultimate fantasy iron of my youth, I have always wanted a set. I played K1s for a couple of seasons and enjoyed them. Like many recent reviewers, I am now convinced that Karsten nailed it when he crafted the Eye 2, and the tweaks incorporated into the Eye 2 + [especially the 9 iron and PW] have made them even greater. I have never played a finer iron. On the Golf Digest site last month a senior Ping rep accidently confirmed this, stating: "Basically, we're still working from Karsten's template from 25 years ago". I suspect that anyone who got properly fit to a set of Eye2s of any vintage would find them perfectly suitable, regardless of skill level. And the prices at local used shops or ebay/golfclubexchange make them irresistable. Do yourself a favour [yes I'm Canadian!], and try a set before wasting a grand on new Taylor Mades that will be "obselete" by 2009 because of the 3 newer generations available the following spring.

Customer Service

terrific. I needed a 2 iron for my K1s reshafted with a microtaper and they were prompt. I am a bit perturbed by the rumour that G10/I10 are cast in China, then assembled in USA...

I messed up a while back and sold my Pings, thinking I would benefit from the newer technologies of clubs such as Mizuno with Grain Forging. Mistake. I just ordered another set of red dot eye 2's. If you see these clubs in a bag, look closely at the bag - that guy is a player - you won't find them with iron covers, or silly bags. You will find them in well used, carry bags with modern driver/wood technologies alongside. Reason is, as we all are finding out, you just can't find a more forgiving iron with playability - and I agree that while Ping has to continue to push the envelope, their best work to date, which surpasses in my opinion every other iron EVER made, is the the Ping Eye 2. Nice to see others verbalizing what I have found to be a reality.
