Model Reviewed: Ping Eye2 BeCu Irons (1-LW)

I'm a senior (67) and I've played my BeCu's for about 10 years, then parked them to give the Ping G5's a go. I've played the G5's now since they came out.

However, I just recently decided to bring out my 'coppers', reshaft them with Grafalloy ProLogic's (stiff), and (like before) I'm hitting the living baJesus out of them - high and straight away (I don't shape a lot of shots)!

There is just no better feel than a sweet shot of the Eye2 BeCu - 'period'!

Customer Service

Ping wanted $62.50/club (plus shipping)to reshaft my BeCu's but I searched all over heck and found the ProLogics and got Golf Galaxy to reshaft my shafts ($15ea) for $9ea. A huge savings when you multiply times all 12 clubs.

Model Reviewed: Ping Eye 2 and Ping Eye 2 + BeCu

When I was a teenager, I borrowed my Dad's set of Ping Eye 2 red dot irons and immediate fell in love with the feel and playability of them. Needless to say, he never got them back. I have always been fairly long hitter and pretty good ball striker. My irons have always been my best clubs and no doubt the Ping Eye 2's are a large reason for that. They give you the feedback of a forged muscle back and are easy to work. I like to play a little draw and these clubs are easy to control. Since I recently got back into golf after a few years off, I bought a set of BeCu Eye 2+s online and I absolutely love them to pieces. The Beryllium Copper (BeCu) feel significantly different from the standard steel ones I had previously used. They are slightly heavier, though not much, and feel quite a bit softer on all hits, especially off center hits. The BeCus are much softer and give you fantastic feedback which helps you shape your shots. Both the steel and BeCu models sound great, although the BeCus have a slightly sweeter sound and tend to sound much more pure than the steels on all hits. The + model is slightly different from the originals aswell, with more perimeter and toe weighting, slightly stronger lofts and adjusted bounce. I have hit alot of clubs through the years, including all the new high tech and exotic ones and nothing has been able to match the set of Ping Eye 2+ Beryllium Coppers that I have in terms of feel, and playability. Not to mention they are about the most stylish clubs around ;)

Love em'

Model Reviewed: Ping Eye2+

I am just coming back to golf after 17+ years. My father taught me when I was little (maybe we started when I was 8 or 10 years old) and I played through high school and a little recreational in college. I grew up on an old set of Titleist blades which where probably from the 1960's. Somehow they got lost over the years. My best game ever was in high school on a public course (so it was pretty easy with wide fairways) but I shot a 77. Back then I shot regularly in the 80's. Last weekend I played my first round and I shot an embarassing 140, but the best thing that came out of that day was that I was able to buy the set of irons I was borrowing from a friend. Ping Eye2+ irons 3-SW with new true temper S300 shafts and new grips for 10,000yen ($100).

I know I should be writing a review after playing with these for the summer but I feel very compelled to write.

Last night I went to the practice range with my 5,7,9 irons. The range is short (being in Tokyo) maybe only 100 or 120 yards to the back wall. It took me awhile to get a feel for the clubs, but by the end of hiting the 9 iron high on the wall and it was still going up. My 7 was perfect and the 5 was driving hard and fast and maybe getting close to the 180yard mark. I have no fear that I will be able to hit my 3 iron again with only a few practice sessions.

These clubs are amazing. When I was looking around for irons, I was really hoping pick up some Mizunos (since I am living in Japan now and I grew up on blades). But I am so impressed with these ping eye2+. I am happy with how quickly I am remembering my game and how quickly I am getting these clubs to behave. All my shots where straight and with almost consistent distance by the end of practice. wow.

The best that I can describe the eye2+ is that it has all the control and feedback of a great blade but does not punish too bad when I made a mistake. I had tried several irons at shops or renting at the range that had very little feedback. The Eye2+ provides such wonderful feedback that I was able to quickly find my game again.

These may be the best clubs ever designed. They behave like a "game improver" when you makes mistakes, but as one's game and control improves they start to behave like blades. Amazing. I have no doubt that by the end of this season I will be able to shoot in the 90's or 80's again.

1992 set of ping eye 2 , i was a hacker so i didnt know what i had , onthrough the years i spent more on clubs than anyone, always chasing it. I moved to NC worked as a Ranger on a nice course , shooting in the low 70's hitting forged wishon blades , callawayx20( hated those from the 1st time i hit them) taylor made, titleist 804, ok clubs, so i just today traded my mizuno mx 20 in on some ing eye 2, who cares what color dot, man these things hit a high , huge shot, i was drawing the ball, cutting the ball, i hit 150 yd 8 irons so these clubs arent as short with the 2 degree more loft as you think. I hit more yardage signs at the range in one day than in 1 year. Soft feel, yes, consistant ball flight throughout the set, yes the 5 ironlooks like youhit an 8 iron, just huge. I cant say that about any iron set i have hit in the last 20 years. I am playing in pinehurst this weekend and feeling very confident after the 69 i shot at the range this morning.I cant advise anyone more highly to get your hands on a set of these asap. I was leaving the most pure divots , i couldnt believe it , bacon strips pointing at the target. The owner of the range came out and commented on how these clubs were just crushing the ball. He thought it was my hands or somthing,i didnt say anything. I grabbed the 3 iron , yes i hit 5 pure 3 irons , spot on down the middle and way up high. I could never hit any iron past a 6 very high. Every set of clubs i have hit i had a bit of trouble with anything below a 6 and that has been the story until today, just killed these things,so go trade in your game improvement irons, blades what ever, get these

After entering into the golfing arena sporting Adams Idea irons and becoming more and more fascinated by the game, I decided that it was time to do some market research and maybe upgrade my clubs. I had heard alot about the older Ping irons from some of my friends that had hit them. When I inquired as to why they don't upgrade to newer technology the reactions were varied, some laughed and said "if its not broken, why fix it?" while others reacted as if I had asked them to give up their children. Either way it warranted further investigation. Reading reviews and listening to testimonials is all fine and good, but in the world of golf there comes a time for the hands on approach, a time to grip it and rip it. I borrowed a set of Ping Zings from a friend who asked me to take extra care when hitting them at the local pro shop (as the dead of winter prevented any true test at the local driving range). It was after only a few swings and the effortless power that resulted that convinced me that I had found a home. The ease with which these clubs moved the ball combined with the feel and sense of control was what set me on a course to find my perfect set of Pings. After some looking and a bit of good luck I happend upon a set of Ping Eye 2's, blue dot with steel shafts that felt heaven, and hit the ball like hell. Once I had the chance to get them out on the golf course it was amazing how much these clubs improved my game, even mis hits were recoverable using these irons. Feel, control, forgiveness; these are words that have been overused in the golfing industry to try and move the latest products, but when hitting Pings the words come together to provide true satisfaction. Yes there is newer technology, different designs and materials, and some would say new "innovations" that promote better golf. But really, hitting the ball consistently where you want it to go, isn't that the whole idea? Ping irons make the game more fun, and easier to play. Just please dont ask to borrow them, it would be like giving up my children.

I have been a nasty club junkie thing for the last several years... I have always enjoyed the Eye2's, and have had several sets in between MANY others, but there was something that just did not fit. It was the shaft. I picked up a well used set on Ebay for $130, 4-PW and they had the KT-M shaft, which I have never had...

That was, for me, the missing link. These are absolutely super irons. Great feel, accuracy, and adequate spin and distance. The Eye2+ head is much better than the original, IMO.

No more searching, these are tho ones. Maybe a set in 9/10 condition if I can find it. 200+ reviews and a rating of 4.75 speaks loudly on the quality and playability of these great sticks.

Karsten must be smiling up there.

Not quite everything. FYI, if you are into the G2 or G5's, try to find a set of Zevo ZV-2 irons. VERY similar at a steal of a price... my set was $31 on Ebay, 9/10.

Great clubs!! Excellent playability, easy to work the ball, consistent, and forgiving. I played eye 2's for about 15 years and then started trying some new stuff--i3, i5, callaway x-14's,x-16s,x-18's, mizuno mp 14, mp 30, mp67 (best feeling of any club made, just not forgiving enough),and titleist. A couple of months ago, decided to buy some old eye 2s ( berillium) on ebay. I had forgotten how much fun they are to play. Easy to line up, great ball flight, very good around the greens, and forgiving. They don't feel as good as the MP 67's, but the results on poor shots makes up for the feel. I would recommend the eye 2's for any skill level. Ping has some good clubs on the market today and its all about innovation and marketing, but none I have used compare to the eye 2 overall. If I was Ping, I'd definately start selling them again

Have played Golf since I was a kid...Over 40 years...I have played to a scratch handicap, now about a 6...Don't play nearly as much as I use to...I don't think there is a brand of clubs I have not played. For whatever reason, I always come back to my eye2's.There is no better overall set of clubs ever made for the recreational golfer...Every now and then I will break out the old Mizuno blades, but realize that if i'm not hitting balls a lot my confidence and play is more consistant with the pings...No better club on the market in my opinion..including the new ping models...

Brought these after I wanted a control iron. Recommended by a few golf mates. These irons are mean. Old school, but perfect performance. I cane most clubs, so distance is not what I need, so these stand out for there sheer playability.
