Nike Slingshot Irons
The Bottom Line: The Nike Slingshot irons are the most forgiving irons that I have tried to date. Buy them and they will lower your scores if you shoot in the 80's, 90's or 100's. The Heart of the Matter: With the luxury of having the Santa Ana, CA Roger Dunn Golfshop right down the freeway, I can hit virtually any name brand golf club known to man. I have tried them all! The clubs feel like one big sweet spot and I can work them to the left or right (fade/draw). I have recently brought my game down into the 70's and the only thing that I do not like about these clubs is the distance control with the short irons. If you shoot in the 70's to low 80's I would recommend the Nike Pro Combos. For me personally, I have a variation of clubs depending on the course I am playing. Since the USGA only allows one to carry a maximum of 14 clubs, you must pick and choose for your battle with the particular course you are playing. I play 4 wedges, all Titleist Vokeys: 60* Lob Wedge, 56* Sand Wedge, 52* Gap Wedge, and 48* Pitching Wedge. I have two sets of irons and as I mentioned I do not like the short irons for the short game so I carry Ping i3's O size for my 9, 8 and 7 irons. I carry the Nike slingshots for my 6, 5, 4 or 3 irons. I hope this review helps you in your quest to lower your golf scores and have a good time on the course! I would preface this by saying if there is a more serious equipment junkie out there than me...I'd love to meet them. I have played/bought/traded every iron in the Golf Digest 2003 clubtest. I have learned through time that no one iron set "does it all". Even combo sets have their drawbacks. (Try hitting a hybrid as a long second shot into an ocean breeze on a narrow par five). You'll likely hit it again from about 190 or to punch out of the trees or fairway bunker. On a whim, a friend of mine from Martin's Golf here in Myrtle Beach let me take out a set of Nike Slingshots. Looking at them I get a Big Bertha 2004/RAC HT feel. Wide soles, thick toplines. Some complain about the bulbous appearance. I like it. It screams confidence. If you are a Mizuno/Hogan person of course this will look/feel odd to you. Get over it dude. These clubs truly are amazing. Looks=Confidence building. They say, "don't worry if you're hung over buddy, we're still sticking this 3 iron from 200 to ten feet". Is there anyone out there, single dig or otherwise that doesn't want that? Feel=You will feel off-center hits are not as sweet as a pure strike. That's okay. That's how we improve. (Thus the term "game-improvement") However, you don't lose significant distance and you're pulls/slices get corrected amazingly well. I would have to say that the direction correction (that rhymes) is the single most impressive facet of these clubs. These clubs make golf enjoyable for EVERYONE. The ball flight is ideal. They are Loooong. For me 5 iron goes 185 with a 100mph swing speed. Do yourself a favor, stop torturing yourself with "player's clubs". Put the ego aside. I did and although I may get sh@#& on the first tee, I give it right back when the cash is handed over to me. It'll be a KFC night every Sunday as long as the Slingshots are in my bag. Nike Slingshot Irons 3 thru A wedge
This is a follow up review to my previous glowing review of these irons. My index is 9.8 and I shoot mid/high 70's to low/mid 80's. After a lot of rounds with these irons my love for them turned into a love/hate relationship. Love the long irons (so much that anyone having trouble w/traditional long irons should consider them for 4 thru 2. Hate (might be too strong a word) the short irons where I often had distance control problems. PW & 9 iron were all over the place and were hard to get the ball to back up. The irons are longer than most, partially do the stronger loft (which still isn't as strong as RAC OS's or some Callaways) and partially due to the fact that they do provide a high but penetrating ball flight with good carry. High handicappers and low swing speed players should definitely give these clubs a shot as should anyone who has trouble getting the ball up in the air. Mid handicappers may like them too but anyone with a 12 index and under may not find enough versatility in the short & mid irons. If I were recommending these to a high handicapper I'd still have to rate a 5 but over all I'd say 4. Other drawbacks include the fact that it's hard to feel the club head and they lack some feel at impact. I've switched to some old Pings for now. Customer Service Never used. Similar Products Used: I've tried nearly everything and I've owned the following; Taylor Made Burners, Ping Eye 2 (Becu's)(over-rated!), Ping I3's, Mizuno MP 37 / 30 mixed set (nice clubs if you have the game), Taylor Made forged 300 series (also good clubs). Now using Ping ISI nickel. |

Tom Stites, THANK YOU! The Slingshot does for Nike what David did to Goliath. The Slingshot are irons for the masses. The shot shape is higher than I am used to, but that's what the new center of gravity on the club is meant to do. Miss hits come back on line and well struck shots give great feedback. Some people have complained about the clubs whistling when swung, and while I have heard it, it's the type of complaint you hear guys make when they can't find anything else bad to say. Give em' a shot. See you on the greens! Customer Service Didn't need 'em Similar Products Used: Hogan CFT |

Went to the store looking for a new set of irons, play Callaway x-16 irons now. Thought I would try out the slingshot irons after Golf Digest praised them. No matter what club you hit it feels like you pulled out your 3 wood, almost no feel. As far as people hitting them further all Nike has done to help you hit it further is uses a weaker loft, for example if a 3 iron is normally 16* Nike's is 14*, tricky but you think you hit it further. You can't work the ball with these clubs, but for the begginer who these clubs are made for probably won't be trying to work the ball any way but down the pipe.Would suggest these clubs for a begginer but a better player should stay away from these. Thanks Nike but I'll pick up a set of Callaway x-16 pro series irons but good try with these. After an 18 month layoff, I wanted to resume my golf escapades. Unfortnately, I lost my game. Rather than invest in a new driver I chose to get more forgiving irons. And the Nike Slingshot irons are definitely forgiving. In fact they are the most forgiving irons I have ever hit. I was playing around with replacing my 3 and 4 irons. No need to now. The long irons are very easy to hit. Everything about these clubs screams game improvement, however, there is a price to be paid. These clubs are not easy to work. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with straight and long. In conclusion, the Nike Slingshots are a wonderful set of clubs. Customer Service No experience yet. I have been looking at these clubs since they were released because they look so good. I was scared to purchase though because of the Nike driver I bought and got burned on a few years back. Anyway, these irons are sweet. I reviewed a set of maxfli a10's last year and loved them but never got the long irons down. I played my first round with slingshots today and long irons are just as easy to hit as the short irons. This is a great looking club that also plays unbelievably. Customer Service ? Nike Slingshot Irons
BALL FOR FAR AND STRAIGHT!!!!! I've never wrote a review even though I visit this site often. I never even registered at Golf Review for fear of getting junk e-mail but I had to write a review about these sticks. My index is 9.8 and I shoot mid/high 70's to low/mid 80's. I had been playing Mizuno MP 37's, great but unforgiving clubs, and I decided to get something more forgiving. Had my heart set on Taylor Made RAC LT's and was also looking at some X-14 pro's when the guy @ Roger Dunn said I should consider the Slingshots, he said they're "like cheating". I never even thought about them as I assumed they were beginner clubs, I'm not a huge Nike fan, and I thought they looked strange. I had also heard about the swoosh sound they make. You learn to like the swoosh sound the 1st time you rip a long iron right at the flag. The salesman claimed to be a 4 handicap who hit a 240 yard 3 iron ! He said the other guy there was a 1 handicap and both played Slingshots in Regular Flex ! Even after he had first bought the stiff. I had always been told I was stiff/X-stiff but I took the guys advice went with R Flex and haven't looked back. The first 8 iron at the range was about 158 yard high shot with a nice tail draw. I look forward to hitting 3 & 4 irons again. I've tried more irons than almost anyone I know (see below) and these are it ! About a 1/2 club to a full club longer than all previous irons I've owned. They are like throwing darts. I feel I can hit it close with a 5 iron ! You have to reverse pivot or come over the top to mis hit these. You can still work the ball but perhaps not as well as some "players" clubs but I rarely want to anymore when I can hit it DEAD straight. Flight is high but penetrating and they have a nice trajectory. You can bring the flight down by moving the ball back and swinging smoother when necessary and you'll still get most your distance. These clubs are for any handicap level and make the game FUN ! You can get a deal on eBay, I had credit at Roger Dunn (plus they have a generous return policy)and without they're help I would have never tried these great clubs. Taylor Made V-Steel Fairway Woods 15 degree and 19 degree
Great set of fairway woods I purchased the 3 wood 15 degree and the 5 wood 19 degree. I do not hit fairway woods that well but these are very easy to hit and have great distance. The ball flies off the face of this club but does not balloon it actually cuts through the wind nicely kind of like my review with the Nike Sling Shots, but I am just expressing the truth. I highly recommend going to a demo day and trying different manufacturers because it comes down to the shaft for woods. I demoed cleveland which was my second choice but I was not that consistant with it. I also tried the new Ovation by Orlimar this club was outstanding but I believe the shaft is a bit heavy for me but it goes a long way when hit right you definetly need need to spend some time trying this club with different shafts it may be a sleeper. I will play with these for a long time which is probably 2 years considering the technology that comes out each year. I love this game. Nike Slingshot Irons 1/2in added and 2 degrees upright
I have tried every set of irons on the market starting from 1982 you can view tha list below under similar products used. I took these out today for the first time on the course and I have to say they are the most forgiving set of irons I have ever hit. The ball flight for me is a little right to left draw. I have read other reviews and the comments about the ball getting up in the air is true but with these irons they do not balloon. The ball actually jumps off the face of the club and cuts through the wind nicely. I would play these in the wind with no worries. I would like to repeat the comment I made about the ball "jumping off" the face. The only way to really experience this iron is to go to an outdoor driving range that has a golf store that would let you demo these clubs you will confirm my comments. These clubs are about one club longer than other clubs I have played. I would recommend getting these clubs fitted. You need to find someone that will spend some time with you to make sure you get the right fit. Try to get someone who is patient and tolerant because there are some shop staff that are burned out and do not have their heart in it. If you live in Los Angeles or Orange County California Patrick the pro at the driving range/Roger Dunn golf shop near the 405 frwy. and the 710 frwy. gives outstanding service. In addition to the Sling Shots he fitted me for some TaylorMade V-Steel fairway woods which are golden read my review under fairway woods. Customer Service Outstanding, quick turn around on custom fitting. Similar Products Used: Mizuno Comp EZ. Mizuno Pro IIs, Callaway Hawk Eye (major balloon effect terrible irons), Precepts.
