I thought I'd post and updated review on these irons now that I've had a few rounds with them under my belt. So far so good. Today I played a course that recently held the PGA Championship and shot a 77 with them. Not a great score for me, but I finally figured out how to hit these irons consistently and that's by slowing down my swing tempo and letting the clubs do the work for me. My shots went just as far, were more accurate, and allow me to not exert so much energy trying to hit the ball which keeps me fresh for the next shot. I just make sure my hips get thru first and let the club head follow swinging through the ball as opposed to hitting at it. I've been trying to follow through too strongly and quickly and as a result have had trouble until the back nine of today's round where I figured things out and shot well (one over) with unbelievable accuracy considering the extremely small greens this course has. They have four tee boxes, one is the championship box, then the low handicapper teebox, followed by the high handicapper and then ladies red tees. I hit from the low handicapper tees b/c I'm not a big hitter and this was a very long course, even from the ladies tees. I started out poorly double bogeying the par 5 first hole which led to a sloppy 40 on the front nine(Thanks to a couple of birdies on par 3's with these irons, I kept from collapsing altogether on the front). To give you an idea of how bad I started, the greenskeeper was hiding behind a tree as a teed off on the second hole, lol. Like I said I figured things out on the back nine, slowed my tempo(especially my follow through) and let the irons do the work for me and boy was I happy with the results. I would've scored a lot better if it wasn't 104 degrees out there. These irons are great, and I played three balls on the final hole just for fun, but only counted the first ball on my scorecard. This hole was a long par 5; with my first ball I went driver - driver - Sandwedge and knocked it 5 feet from the pin(No Nike clubs used). - The second ball I used driver - 3 Wood - and 6 iron(Nike) from 160 yds away and knocked it inside 10 feet again from the rough. My third ball went driver - 3 wood - and 8 iron(Nike) from 150 where I hit the pin and nearly landed it in the cup from the fairway. In an earlier post I complained about the Nike short irons but I take that back. Great set and I highly recommend them. Can't wait to get out there for another go with these irons. Customer Service They really did me a favor by talking me into buying these irons. I hit a few simulated practice shots to make sure they were the right fit. They even gave me a 7 day grace period to return the clubs if I didn't like them. Cost 3 iron thru PW - $399. Great deal! I now have about 20 rounds with these clubs and I am starting to really, really like them. I use to shoot consistently 96 to 105. My woods have helped improve that but I am also hitting these irons well now. I use to hit my 7 iron 145 now I am landing 145 with my eight. long irons I am beginning to hit better and my last three rounds have all returned my three personal best scores 91, 91, and 87. If I could only putt I might be in the low 80's. Bottom line I hit these further and I am continously getting closer to that pin on my approach. I bought these irons without trying them out first which i got a good deal on, they only cost me $455 on ebay. I was worried because i have seen some of the bad reviews on these irons and was starting to wonder if these were going to be better than my wilson deep reds. Boy are they ever the long irons are a dream come true, some ppl don't like the short irons and wedges but i hit better with them than my wilsons and my ping eye 2's. They worked magic for me im only 14 years old and have only been playing for less than one full season and this year at school on the team my handicap was 72 over par i really was trash at golf and now with these irons because of how effertless they are to hit im shooting hight 80's to lower 90's and am thinking to get better when i complete my set with the ignite driver and woods. These irons are unbelievable. I can hit the ball twice as far as my old irons which is extremely important because you can hit more accurate shots when attacking the green. I also love the spin that i can now put on the ball. I can stop and drop it with a 3 iron which i would never dream of doing in the past. Most importantly they are consistant. Day in and day out i am confident on my shots because i know i wont screw it up. Similar Products Used: almost everything |

I have tried so many clubs the past two years my head is spinning. . . 2004 Big Bertha, Cobra Inertia, Cleveland TA6 and Launcher, Callaway X18, Wilson Deep Red II, Mizuno MX17, Nike Slingshot Steel. After struggling with them all, I have to say the Slingshot graphite irons with mid-kick shafts are the best of the bunch. Easy to hit, great distance and the ball feels great on the pure hits. If you find the right shaft and make sure the clubs are the right length for you, I would recommend these to anybody looking for forget about making solid contact with irons. The mid-kick shaft keeps the ball from ballooning too much as it does with other game improvement irons. Just also invest in iron covers becasue the slingshot back tends to get marked in the back if the clubs bounce around in your bag. I've been trying to break the plane and become pro. My only setbacks were my long irons. I simply, unless off a tee, could not hit a 2,3 or 4 iron - so I decided to find a new set of irons because I needed a fix and this was my final option(lessons did not help). I've always drove the ball long and can direct wherever I want it with my Titliest driver. My original war bird series Calloway 3 and 5 woods are always reliable and I highly recommend them. Around the greens my Odyssey putter and 56 degree wedge do me fine, while the occasional 8 or 5 iron chip keeps me close. My Ping ISI irons are solid from within 160 yards, but my long irons were not cutting it for me. My old Hogan edges fom the late 1980s were a god send for me until they disappeared (I think in my bro's bag) and I moved on to the ISIs and maintained decent iron play, but no where near like the lost Hogan Edges. My latest step has been to go with the hype and purchase a set of Nike Slingshot irons. The long irons are just fantastic, beautiful(my most confident clubs, easiest to hit) and have solidified my game and brought me closer to my pro goal. I got hooked up and snagged the full iron set for $399. Unfortunately, the short irons are horrific and God help me to ever master them. For irons, I'm still using the Pings for short irons and now, the Nike's for long irons(Odyssey and Ping wedges suit me remarkably for the extra short clubs in my bag - Odyssey putter is great too). Overall assessment on my $399 plunge into the Nike irons is a 3 out of 5. Can't beat the 3 and 4 irons(they are so good to me, I would pay the $399 for just those 2 clubs), but the rest are just a work in progress. For now, I'll keep my mixed bag and continue having a blast on the course. For beginners shooting in the 100s to upper 80s, buy the Nike Slingshots an for us wanna be pro's just get the long irons and I'll see you competing w/ the best. Customer Service He did me a favor. I actually wrote a review which was never posted for some reason on these irons, however I am glad it didn't get written up as I have changed my opinion. At first I figured I just needed to give these irons time, however they just didn't do the trick for me. First off, the swingweight of these irons is higher than most GI irons probably a D4 and it was much heavier than many of the other irons such as the G2's, Taylormade Rac OS2's, and the Cobra 3100's. Also the look of the irons is very distracting they are bulky and set up strange at address. I actually lost quite a bit of distance as the ball launched extremely high with these irons. This is good for some however I prefer an iron which gives a more penetrating mid-ball flight, while also allowing for good workability. If you have trouble getting the ball up than these will work for you, otherwise you will be skying the ball. The clubs are also difficult to keep maintained as any moisture which accumulates within the cavity back is difficult to reach and ends up slowly rusting inside the cavity back of the iron. Overall I would rate this as a decent club and one which will help those who have trouble getting the ball into the air. I ended up selling them on eBay and then went to GolfTown where I had a chance to hit all of the latest irons (Ping G2's, Callaway Big Bertha's, Cobra 3100's, Taylormade RAC OS2's and LT2's. Without a doubt the RAC OS2's had the best feel, and on the range had the best ball flight with a considerable gain in distance. Remeber to trust your instincts when buying clubs and try to make sure you see your ball flight on an outside range and not a simulator. Your first instinct is usually correct and if you don't like an iron at first then keep looking. Depending upon what irons you are switching from, you may need to give these irons several rounds before making a fair evaluation. These clubs have offset and bounce that my previous ones didn't. I also switched from graphite shafts to stiff flex steel shafts. My first couple rounds were very inconsistent and I was considering returning them. If I reviewed them after a single round or two rounds, I would have given a misleading review. My advise is to give them time. Your patience will be rewarded. They are about ½ club longer than my previous set and the accuracy (long and short irons) is like throwing darts. The 3 and 4 irons are easy to hit and are now back in my bag after being replaced for years by 5/7 Woods and rescue clubs. The ball trajectory (high) from 5-PW promotes a soft landing on even the hardest greens and will keep you within makeable birdie range on more holes than you would ever have imagined. For most of my golf life, I’ve had enough to worry about just hitting the ball straight and have never really tried working the ball left-to-right or right-to-left too much. With these clubs, I can still hit an occasional controlled fade when I need to. I suppose that real low handicappers who can make the ball moonwalk on the green and who can hook and fade the ball at will would be unhappy with these irons. But why would those players be shopping for “GAME IMPROVEMENT” irons anyway? If the part of your game that you’re looking to improve is consistency and accuracy in hitting the ball straight and on line in your short and long irons, I can’t imagine a better product being out there. In two months, I’ve shaved 3 points off my USGA index (13 to 10). If there were a Slingshot Putter in the set, I think I would already have had a really low breakthrough round. One word: Amazing. if there is anybody out there thinking about getting these, there is no question not too. i just got mine a couple days ago, and i have a 3 club length change from my old irons, the feel is ridicculusly good. there is a slight whistle when u swing these babys but its alright, first holes will feel weird do to a large sole, but these irons are made for forgiveness and even miss hits can turn into your best shots ever!!! Ok hear is the deal with the Nike Slingshots. They are very forgiving and are probably a smart choice for begginers and well "poor golfers." If you simply need forgivnes and a boost of confidence, then go with these. If your are a more proficient golfer than you might want to look into something else. I bought these irons my freshman year in high school when i was about a 20 handicap and they worked well for me then. I am now a sophmore and my handicap is down around 6 or 7 and these irons simply do not produce the feel and workability that i now expect in a set of irons. Overall i think these are a solid set of golf clubs that most golfers will be pleased with as they are very forgiving, and you will have no problem launching the ball into the air. If you are an aspiring golfer, the slingshots are a good choice. |
