Nike Slingshot Irons

DESCRIPTION

Nike Slingshot Individual Iron with Graphite Shaft The Nike Slingshot Individual Iron with Graphite Shaft delivers forgiveness. Forgiveness begins in irone with weight management. Moving weight deeper and lower results in a larger sweet spot and a deeper center of gravity that actually exists in air behind the face. The benefit is a mixed set of hybrids and irons that are more forgiving and launch the ball higher. There are 30 grams of Nike PowerBow weighted low and back with a deeper sole that

Just got new slingshots a month ago and have already cut 4 strokes of my game. these are definitely miracle clubs. Wide soles are twice the size of my old clubs and reduce/cut out all of my fat shots. short irons are sweet, long irons are even sweeter. heck of a design as well!

To all high handicappers out there, don't even think about it. The NIKE OSS Slingshot is by far the easiest club I have ever hit. I am having fun again and it has given me confidence to hit my 4 ironwhich was unheard of before.

My ball flight is a thing of beauty (high and long).

I am a NIKE convert.

Got the slingshot OSS as a birthday gift from my wife :D.

A bit about my game - and I have to describe this to relate to you what the nike OSS has done for my game. Before, I was using Honma CL505 blades. Hit 7 iron to 120 meters (131 yds). Average score is 107 and probably get 1 GIR per 2 rounds of golf, and 1 or 2 pars per round. A bogey is an achievement for me. I've had 3 sub 100 rounds with the Honmas, shooting 96, 98 and most recently 93.

Now back to reviewing the set. This OSS is *very* expensive here in Malaysia. Before discount it costs USD 1,250. My wife paid USD 820 for my set during a sale at MST Golf a few weeks ago. Because of its high price, I'll give this set a value rating of 3.

The set contains irons 3 - 9, and P. It comes with iDiamana graphite shaft, R flex. According to the sales person, the shaft is 'Japanese specs' which means that the R flex shaft is softer than the US spec R flex.

I compared it on the simulator with Callaway X16, Daiwa, the older model slingshot, and the Nike NDS. On the simulator, I was hitting the OSS longer than all the others, albeit only marginally, so we paid for it.

Went to the range the very same day and could not tell any difference in distance but hitting golf balls with the club was a lot easier than my previous set. And ball flight was very high. One pleasant discovery was that I could hit 3 iron off the tee to about 170 meters (186 yds), with high ball flight. Was not able to do this with the Honma.

First day on the course, I shot 109. Was having trouble judging distance. And because I could hit 3 iron, I was using it a few times on the fairway, but kept hooking my shots. I suppose if I was playing less agressive, I would have had 3 to 5 fewer strokes. I did score a 2 putt par on a short par 4, teeing off with the 3 iron and getting on in regulation.

On the second game, I shot 95. I could probably have broken 90 or at least shot 91 had it not started to rain. What got me really excited was the 41 on the front 9. Had 4 pars on the way out, and a birdie 4 (GIR and 1 putt) on a par 5. Didn't have a single fat shot. Didn't have a single slice (with irons). Had 1 or 2 thin ones, and 1 or 2 on the toe, but the ball still went like it was a solid hit.

As far as I can tell, these irons
do improve my scores and stats - at least for this one game so far. Using the Honmas, I would have only 1 GIR over 36 holes. This last round, I had 6 GIRs. I hope to be able to consistently shoot in the 90's and do 5 to 6 GIRs.

My only complaints now are:
1) That I have not dialed in the distance of my hits. I'm still discovering how much further I hit these irons compared to my Honma's, and I occasionally get caught out by this. Now my 8 iron goes 135+ meters (about 150 yds) - that's 2 clubs longer than the honma.
2) That I tend to severly pull my 3 and 4 irons. This, I think is more due to my crooked swing than the irons.

In anycase, golf is getting really exciting now that I'm using this set. I feel that this set is definitely, definitely worth a look if you are 24 handicap golfer and want to improve your game. Were it not for the high price of the set, I give an overall rating of 5 instead of 4.

Model Reviewed: Nike Slingshot OSS irons

Purchased these new OSS model irons about 8 weeks ago. The irons are very well made and the heads are heavier than my Taylor Made Super steel irons. Loved the ball flight off these irons - they are easy to hit. Only issue I have is that the chrome finish dulls very quickly from use and the numbers on the sole are losing their paint. When I complained to Nike and my club pro, the factory sent me a new set. Been using these for about a week and see similar marring on the chrome finish occuring. Functionally they are excellent.
These irons will help reduce your score if you are a mid-handicapper like myself.

I think that the nike slingshots are cheating clubs and they should be band. because my friend is a 17 handicap with titlist irons and with steel shafts regular and now he has the slingshots and grafite and hitting it 50 yards longer then normal, they are for hakers ( cheap way to play golf) head is to big

I got the nike slingshot irons about a year ago. I had taylor made irons before i got the nike clubs. I think that the irons are great. I've always had this thing about nike stuff, I finally gave in and got the slingshots and I love them. Since I got them I will probably never get another type of clubs again. I thinking about getting this years model of the slingshot.

At first when i got the slingshots i was very pleased with them. However, I can not say that I stil think highly of them. I think they feel to much like a wood when they are hit. The actual sligshot back is very cumbersome during your swing and they do not feel like irons. ALso, I get too much launch from thee irons and way too much movement. When I demotd other irons i hit them and was much more pleased with them (mizuno mx-17, ping g-5, callaway x-18, Ben Hogan bh-5). I would not suggest buying these irons.

After initially purchasing these in February I was very pleased. The forgiveness is amazing. however after only about 5 rounds the shafts of the 6 & 7 iron snapped just above the base of the grip. The 6 broke at the range, and the 7 on a practice swing at the course. Nike has not been very helpful in getting them repaired.

Customer Service

customer service has not been good. after only 2 months of use 6 &7 shafts snapped. Nike says they will fix them free of charge, however it could take up to a month and I am responsible for shipping them cross country to nike. I would never buy Nike clubs again, my reatailer had similar coplaints about Nike's quality control. never again Nike

I picked up these irons after going to the golf shop locally and trying them out on the launch monitor. I also read most of the reviews on this site. Decision was between the Nike OSS and the Adams Idea OS2,; I chose the graphite Nike's because my shots in the launch monitor seemed to be more consistent and straighter. I don't think the launch monitors are very realsitic however so I took those results with a pinch of salt. I have found these clubs to be very helpful game improvement clubs. They won't perform miracles for a golfer with a bad swing. Don't be fooled by the TV ads. If your swing is poor, your shots will be poor, no matter which clubs you use. That being said, if you connect with the sweetspot on these irons, the ball really flies. I have never been able to hit a 4 iron, but with these clubs, I hit the 4 iron about 180 yards. The club size really gives you confidence when you step up to take your shot. The shafts feel great also. The finish on the clubs don't wear at all well. The first time I took them to the driving range, they looked well used after 30 mins; maybe this is par for the course (pun intended). I would recommend these irons to high handicapper who wants to improve their game.
