Aesthetically these clubs differ from blades to irons, the blades are ver attractive clubs, the mid irons still very nice but the long irons are horrid (huge bulge at the back of the iron). All of them seem to have a matt grey cover on the sole of the club which you either love or hate (personally the clubs would have looked better without it). Distance wise they are quite long (8 iron 155yrds, 6 iron 190) but I am a fairly good ball striker and they are a bit inconsistent. My advice is to get them custom fitted (I didn't which was VERY stupid of me). The grips were awful, although they seem to be with every premium brand of iron, and the shaft was very poor. Compared to the DG-R300's they are far to light and seem to have too much flex at the mid-point of the shaft. In conclusion I think the irons are very good but in comparison with the other clubs they aren't of the same quality. They are fairly easy to hit but the quality of the strike even when hit on the button is average in comparison to other clubs on the market. I do think, however, if I had been properly custom fitted I would have enjoyed using them alot more and probably found them more consistent. I love them. At address, they have the classic look of the old Hogan blades. Great feel, easy to hit. Excellent clubs. |

I bought these clubs hardly used off of ebay. I must say right away that these are the most stunning eye candy you can have in your bag. However, looks aren't everything, as I would much rather hit a rock tied to a stick if it let me play better. I must disagree with the other reviewer complaints. Those that complain about distance, hooks, slices, and the like are being absurd. It comes down to the golfer in the end. You can't really blame the clubs. If they're not for you, you can't dog them. That's why there are several club manufacturers out there. Anyway, these irons have the sweetest impact of any club I have ever hit. You wouldn't know a ball was there, had you not placed it yourself. And the spin that is achieved is beyond anything I ever dreamed of. I would not know if the lightweight shaft is bad (there are other shafts you can purchase, and the lighter one is only 30% lighter) because my former set was Lee Trevino Signature blades. The weight in those is equivalent to swinging a twig. If you want long irons that will bring you more confidence from the rough and fairway, and are not as easy to push left or right, then these may be meant for your bag. Distance should not be a real complaint. If you can hit your old 7 iron ten yards further, thats wonderful. All it means is that you have to pull out the 6 instead. Accuracy before distance. It does no good to be able to hit the ball 250 yards in the wrong direction. The feel and precision around the greens with these clubs is excellent. Once again though, it comes down to your own skill. If you are a little leary of the $800 price tag, try them out first. And search ebay or amazon. I know that I will not need a new set of irons for many seasons to come. Props to Nike for a set of irons that look good on both ends of the shot. Bought a used set of Nike Pro Fordged Irons off EBAY. I learned on blades and had been playing Ping ISI clubs but could never get comfortable with them. These Clubs are easy to hit and very accutate, both in terms of distance and direction. Very playable set of irons, soft feel, easy to chip with and dial in distance with. I play the Top Flite Tour ball and get excellent ball flight and the the ball stops on the green with these irons. With the Pings the ball would just roll off and would stop. So I hit more greens in regulation with these irons, more so than with any others I have played. Oh and the 3 and 4 irons have cavity backs so the ball really flies. On short par 4s I tee off with my 3 iron and ussually have no more than a pithcing wedge into the green. Excellent set of irons. Nike Pro Combo's Steel Stiff
Bought the Nike Pro Combos 2 months ago. I have found these clubs to be extremely accurate, without the loss of distance reported by some of the other reviewers. One thing I would like to add is that, higher handicaps (I play off of a 21)should not be scared off by the thought of playing with the muscle backs or blades in this set. I found all of the clubs to be very easy to hit, but with a remarkable buttery soft feeling. Yet with a good amount of feedback. Hit one off the extreme toe or heel, and your hands are gonna know about it. Give these clubs a demo, I think you'll be surprised by how easy they are to hit. Customer Service Haven't needed it yet. I have two sets of irons. The Taylor Made RAC OS and the Nike Pro Combo's. My RAC's are one to two clubs longer but not nearly as accurate as the Pro Combos. The Pro Combos also provide superior feel because of the forged head design. Ball flight is the same in both sets. Only the distance is less with the Nikes because the Nikes have more loft. I am impressed with the Nike Pro Combos. The loss in distance to me is well worth the gain in accuracy. Isn't that what iron play is all about!!! From 160 and in, you want to dial it in!! I purchased these clubs with the rifled shafts in the spring of 03. At the time I was an 18 handicap. By the end of the season my handicap was a 9. I can say without a doubt it was due to these clubs. I can tell instantly the quality of my shot which allowed me to improve more quickly. A solid shot feels like butter and the ball just explodes off the face. An off center hit feels harsh which is an instant indication of how you hit the ball. Through this feedback it is easy to improve your swing. Distance is comparable to other clubs I've hit. Spacing between clubs is excellent. When these clubs are hit well you can dial in the distance. I went with a 53 and a 58 in wedges which are wonderfull clubs. They are so soft, feel great, easy to dial in and fill the gap between 85 and 110 yards. I would definitely recommend these clubs to anyone would hits the ball cleanly or really wants to work to be a better ball striker. Nike Pro Combo - Stiff Flex Steel Shafts
I love these irons. As a comparison, I've been in need of a new set of irons for over a year now (been playing for 3 years with Top Flite oversized Tours). I really like the Titleist blades, but the unforgiving long irons quickly turned me away from a used set for $325. At first glance, the Nike clubs look great. As previously stated, the tops view of the mid-irons and wedges give a blade appearance. The feel is completely oppposite. The head weight and shaft are fairly balanced and feel great all around. With a mis-hit, you're not punished too bad, but you can easily tell what happened. A "sweet" his is very rewarding. I easily hit my 6I 165-175 with range balls down the line. I think these clubs are well worth the sub-retail price. Customer Service Not Used Similar Products Used: Mizunos, Ping I2, I3, and the new G2, Cleveland TA5 and TA7, and Titleist DCI's and blades. |
