In the last year, I have been an a quest for new irons. I had grown to dislike the Callaway BB 2002s that I played for the last year because I never could get used to the thick topline. I first went to the MacGregor 1025 CMs, but I wasn't really good enough for them. I then when to the TA7s, but the topline was nearly as thick and I purchased the wrong shafts. On a lark, I picked up a singleton MX-20 6 iron in S300 steel. I have never been a stiff steel player and I figured I would reshaft these if I liked them. The 20s were fantastic. They are forged for incredible feel when you hit the sweet spot, but at my level, how was forgiveness you might ask? These clubs were nearly every bit as forgiving as the BB2002s, which is saying a lot. They are far more accurate, however, with the ball leaking far less. They have a nice look at address, with a thin, more traditional topline, and less offset than most improvement clubs (minimimally less offset than the MX23s). Being forged, they ding kind of easily in your bag, but you have to decide for yourself whether you are an iron headcover person or not. They are long--longer than the BB2002s, almost a half a club longer. Make a smooth swing and you will be rewarded. Highly accurate, nice looking, good feeling and very well made. These are improvement clubs that can take you into the single digits. Unlike the fat soled improvement clubs from Callaway and Cleveland, the MX20s will NOT mask a bad swing. You get feedback on bad swings, and a little loss of distance, but not too bad. A perfect combination. You want some feedback to know what you're doing, but you want to be penalized only minimally. The prices are right for the 20s now with the 23s out. An excellent iron, take a look at them.

I would say that that this is a wonderful set of irons. Very forgiving and wonderful feel that everyone is raving about. I like it better than the new MX-23 as I have tendencies to hook and more offset on those new irons make it worse. Mizuno, however, do not support these irons anymore. Moreover, their telephone rep gave me an advice which would have invalidated my warranty. He told me to change the shaft on my own (I did not like stock high launching Dynalite), because Mizuno no longer support this iron, but according to e-mail that voids warranty. Do not buy this irons if you want support, there isn't any offered except most basic. And do not change anything like grip, shaft, lie, loft, etc..., because that will void warranty from Mizuno. That mean paying for shipping and full price for factory service. It will get really expensive. So, keep that in mind before buying this discontinued irons. I think discontinued support of the product is really important for people who wish to purchase these at a discount. The potential purchaser should be aware of the pitfalls of the lower price. My search for new clubs started a couple of weeks back. My current clubs - Bob Toski Catalyst - played well but I received not much feedback of them. Also because I want to lower my handicap this year and I like feel what I do instead of hitting on technical bases only. Because I love blades, I looked for clubs like MP-30 and Titleist 762. Trying them om the range, I noticed that these weren't the clubs I was looking for, als due to my - not yet registered - handicap (25 - 28.) Then the pro showed up with a MX-23 iron #6. What a great feel was that, when I hit my first bal with it! Wauw!!! This was the moment when everything comes together! Forged blades with some cavity back technique in it. Custom made of course, so with beautifull flex 5.5. rifles, +1", 2 up and Jumbo grips. Every shot with the MX-23's gives me so much joy, so much feel and succes! The soft feel prevents me for hitting hard. And thats zo relaxing. If I mis-hit a shot, I know directly but the feel is not as bad as with a blade. Why I bought the clubs at Sporthaantje? Because hes fast and friendly. And within 2 years I can trade this set against a new set just paying the difference between the price I paid now and the new set prices then.

Customer Service

Mizuno did Tour Velvet grips on it instead of Tour Wraps. The willing to change is fast and without costs. Very good!

Model Reviewed: MX-20 Irons with 300S

I just purchased the MX-20 irons along with 2 Mizuno MP series wedges and a new TaylorMade R540. I went for a hit of the irons at the range and they felt very sweet, long and accurate in comparison to my existing cheapo Armour Cavity-Backs. The next day i had a round of 84 which was consiberably lower than my previous best of 91. My putting or driving wasn't anything too special either. What more can i say.... having just broke 90 i am only a few more pars away from 80 - i put it down to the irons, oh and the wedges aren't too shabby either. Cheers Mizuno.

I live in Perth, Australia. My clubs arrived hassle free at my doorstep within 4 working days - don't know how they do it but i was very impressed.

I have played the MX-20's since August of 2002 and have found them to be the most solid and consistent golf irons that I have played. These irons give me a great boring trajectory with each iron, I don't get any unwanted high shots with the MX-20's. Clubs look great at address. Overall, these clubs feel great and have made my iron play better as a result.

I have been using Mizuno MP33 irons for a couple of years. Although they are excellent when my swing is on song, their lack of forgiveness cost me more than a few strokes when the stars didn't line up right. I decided to look for a more forgiving club but was unwilling to go with the offset most of these clubs have as I didn't want to change my swing and set-up.(I still want to use my MP 33 irons when I feel in form) The MX 20 (named T-Zoid Comp Plus in Asia) fits my requirements with the minimal offset and the bonus of being made of forged make them attractive. The perimeter weighting and T zoid bars provide the forgiveness I require. They are half a club longer by way of loft compared to the MP33's , a factor to be considered in club selection. The feel is muted compared to the crispness of the MP33 and workability is not on offer but it's a small price to pay for a better score. The triple grind sole is forgiving towards fat and topped shots with acceptable loss of distance. I now practice on the range with both the MP33 and MX29. The MP33 gives me a lot of feedback and this is useful during practice. After a few swings with them, the MX20 irons are a breeze. Of course I wish my game is consistently good enough for me to use the MP33 all the time but when my back is against the wall and the stakes are high, guess which club I'll reach out for?

I have played Callaway Big Berthas for 7 years, and really liked them, but started shopping for a new set last year. Hit almost everything, wasn't impressed. I always thought Mizunos were "players clubs" until I finally took a set of MX 20's for a demo. WOW!! These are the sweetest clubs I have ever hit. They launch the ball long and high, you can work it either way, and I have a 3 iron I can hit again. These clubs have a totally cofidence inspiring look at set up , and the old Callaways felt and looked like garden tools after playing the MX 20's. Pure hits feel like butter ,coming off the face with a faint click, and go where you aim them. After only about 6 rounds the 20's seem to be about 10 yards longer than my Callaways, across the board, and the accuracy is incredible. My only mistake was not trying Mizuno clubs years ago. The shop I bought them at had just taken a set back after 3 rounds, the original buyer couldn't hit the clubs with the Dynamic Gold 300 S shafts. The stiff shafts matched my swing perfectly, allowing me to get a fantastic deal on these clubs, but I was willing to pay full price after my demo, they are worth every cent. The best irons I have hit at any price.

The best place to start with these irons is acurracy. They are deadly accurate, refined and smooth. I just holed out from 150 yds on a super tough Nicklaus-design course to a tucked pin with only 6 feet of green on either side of the pin. The forgiveness is great, as well, and these irons will make anybody looking for an iron that bridges the gap between blades and game-improvement designs. They are long, light, and instill confidence. They also have the forged "click" to the same degree as forged blades. I never knew how much my Cobra Gavity Backs were, in effect, holding me back until I played the Mizunos! Excellent feedback, accuracy, distance(155 yd 9 iron), and craftsmanship, truly a scalpel in a world of butterknives!

I recently parted with my PING ISI-K's. These have served me well but have always lacked in feel. So i recently tested the Mizuno MX-20, Taylor Made RAC OS, Cleveland TA7, Yonex V260 and Titleist DCI's. The Mizuno irons are in a different league for feel and forgiveness, this must be the fact that they are forged. The great thing is that the ball flight, distance and feel are excellent and the feedback you get from the clubs can only help your swing and timing. Centre hits feel so solid and powerful, not used anything close to these before. Paid £500 in the UK for 8 irons.

I decided it was time to change my old set of game improvement irons ( Mizuno Widec )as my handicap was now down to 16. Decided to buy some Wilson Mandrella Fat Shafts off the internet because they were cheap and I thought they would suit me , how wrong could I be , they were crap! Went to American Golf , was given a decent PX and got custom fitted for the MX20's. Best decision I have ever made ! Feel off the club face is superb , better than any other brand , forgiveness is good , heads are not too bulky to look at , especially at address and in the three months since I bought them my iron play has improved 100%. The only down side is the cost of the clubs in the UK but now I'm convinced it was worth it! Mizuno forged irons are the best !
