Model Reviewed: Mizuno MX-20 - S300 stock shaft

The Mizuno MX-20 irons are extremely easy to hit and very straight yet workable - very little progressive offset (no duck hooks)!!! Draws are long and high. Fades slight. I've been playing TM320 R80 and Mizuno MX-20's are a huge leap better for consistency and distance control - R80 was partially to blame, I always played stiff steel before. They also blow away my old Ping blades. I've been wanting game-improvement irons and never thought Mizuno would produce a forged iron of this type. The stock shaft S300 TT dynalite gold steel stiff shaft is excellent with high ball flight, though the 6 to 3 have great mid and long iron tragectory. The 5 to 3 irons are truly amazing and long and simple - the 5 is maybe a little high. I see an exacting and consistant distance difference from Pitching wedge right up the set. The Pitch is not extra-long like the old Sure model and I prefer this. 5 (185), 4 (195), 3 (205+-) - they go. Feel - No vibration on thin hits. In fact, 0 vibration on any hits. My fingers love it. Very soft forged feel only ever felt from the previous game-improvement Mizuno (which wasn't as easy to hit as these), wonderful stock grips, great stock shaft. I'm ordering the MX-20 gap + sand wedge same shaft & grip so as not to mess with my distance control. Buy them!!!!!!!!!!!!, even if you shoot 70 or 100. You will be amazed. Get the S300 shaft if you have any swing speed and can compress them. R300 will not be as good.

This is a great club. Almost every shot goes straight. Beautiful balflight. Now I have to become more consistent on my woods. I want to buy new ones next spring.

Customer Service

Bought them online. Have a custom build set. The lie is 2 degrees upright and the shaft is 1/2 inch longer. Great service and fast delivery.

I will admit that between my clubs and my friend's...from name brands to knock-offs...I have made every effort to hit as many golf clubs as I can. I always felt that a club was a club and the swing made the difference. Boy was I wrong the day I hit a forged club. I tripped across a Mizuno demo day at Brookpark Golf in Lewisburg, PA a few months ago and after talking with the rep I decided to take a set of MX-20's out for a spin...I was hooked on them since the first shot. I am not here to give a testament to Mizuno because I am friends with both the rep and the owner of the store...I will say that as a low 80's golfer on the way to 70's the MX-20's are the best irons that I have hit to date. I tried them for hours side by side with Cleveland's TA7 and the Cobra forged and by far the 20's felt better at impact, flew straighter, and were more consistant on distance. I ordered them with the Dynalite R flex shafts, standard length, and 1 degree upright with a 21 degree Fli HI subbed out for the 3 iron...and I had them within 2 weeks. I can not bash CS for anything...then again Brookpark Golf is one of the largest Mizuno dealers in the Northeast. I have yet to experience this "extra club syndrome" that a few others have spoke of. The MX-20's are flying as far as my other set (which were knock-offs of a Ping)...but then again I was working off a 19 degree 3 iron down to a 45 degree PW. I will say this about shafts and club fitting. GET FITTED BY A QUALITY SHOP...most of the time you will not pay extra for this service and if you use a simulator...like DeadSolid's you will find your ball speed, swing speed, and launch angle. There are plenty of shaft options with Mizuno and you should not bash them because you picked the wrong shaft or wanted X100's to be like Tiger. Swingweight and flex means a lot and can dictate if you will hook or slice...even if you do not have drastic swing flaws...I played a too stiff shaft and fought a slight left to right ball flight until I dropped back to regular flex. All in all I feel that the MX-20 offers most of us the chance to play with a forged club, the chance to start working the ball and know where it is on the clubface, and the chance to get out there and enjoy the game...and lower your score by a few strokes. They have helped me come down six strokes so far...on the way to single digits.

I demoed all the similar clubs and the Mizuno MX20 was the easiest to hit and consistantly flew straighter and farther than any other. I tried the TA7, Hogan Apex Edge, Callaway and many others. Callaway may be close, but who wants to spend that kind of jack? Longer irons fly high, short irons bore true and stick well. These forged irons feel like butter on a pure hit and dont stray much on the mis-hits. Now if I could only putt.

Nice looking sticks. High ball flight. I ordered with sensicore shaft. But for some reason the shaft is very heavy. Didn't learned from my own mistake, I used to use dynalite with my other Mizuno Comp EZ. Heads looks a little too big. I guess bigger heads, bigger sweet spot. If you don't mind heavy shaft and bigger heads, this club is ok. But if you can try a different shaft it'll probably feel better. I switched to Ping after two brand new Mizuno and bad customer service.

Customer Service

Very very very bad. I ask them a question didn't get back with me until after 2 weeks. By then my brand new irons are gone. At least they apologized, well they can keep that. That's my last Mizuno.

Model Reviewed: Mizuno MX/20 Graphite Reg-flex

Wow!!! Anybody who likes graphite shafts will absolutely LOVE these clubs. The sweetspot must be huge because back in July, without playing a round in 12 months, these new clubs allowed me to go 42/45 at a country club in the midwest at sea level. And at sea level, I was able to hit the ball the same distance with these irons that I normally hit here in Colorado at altitude. With Regular flex exsar blue graphite shafts, these clubs allow me to hit surprisingly accurate shots. Turning 50 I switched from stiff to regular flex and was concerned that I might regain some distance but lose consistency. What I found in testing every possible brand name club was interesting. For hours on three different days I hit regular flex graphite irons from Armour, Callaway, Cleveland, Hogan, Ping, TaylorMade, and Titleist. I was biased toward Ping because I use a Ping driver and 3-wood, which are tremendous clubs. While I normally hit the ball with a slight draw, the Armour, Clevland, and TaylorMade continously resulted in large, sweeping hooks. The Hogan was slightly better and the Ping better than the Hogan. But the Mizuno consistently went straight with that perfect little draw. Regardless of whether I relaxed and hit normal shots or tried to muscle the ball, the MX/20 was consistently on target and as long if not longer than all the others. Back at altitude, where the ball flies straighter in the thin air, I am convinced that these are the best irons I've played in 40+ years of golf. They set up beautifully and exude confidence whether you are hitting the PW or the 3-iron. The 3-iron is so easy to hit I only wish they made a 2-iron and 1-iron. Instead I'm using the 18-degree Fli-Hi utility club in place of a 2-iron. It's ok but a 1-iron & 2-iron would make this the perfect iron set of all time. In 10 rounds with these sticks my best was last weekend with an 80 from the tips. That includes a 3-iron on a 195-yard par 3 that was 10-feet for bird. Long, straight, consistent yardage, forgiving, butter-like forged feel from an extra large sweet spot, these forged irons are a technological marvel. Although the MP-33's are arguably the best clubs in world today, Why would any amateur play them when the forgiveness of the MX/20's will help you play your best by another 3-4 strokes. I love these clubs and think you will too. Go hit them and you'll buy them.

Customer Service

Mizuno customer service is an oxymoron (like jumbo shrimp). Mizuno doesn't care about you the customer. Service is only a necessary evil. You will wait weeks and possibly months if you special order i

i am a reletively new golfer, only been playing seriously for 3 years. Had a 7 club set for the first couple of years whil ei duffed around, struggled to break 110. I then bought a bargain set of clubs from play-it-again sports and saw my scores start to conssitently break 110 and inch closer to 100. I decided that i would like to try a "good" set to see if that may help. I mal ordered a set from NGC golf, "roll and bulge" controller irons and this is what i have played for the last three years. I joinrd a local course and worked my handicap down to 17.9 by the end of my second year. the learning process "took it's toll" on my clubs and i felt that they were all used up. All my previous purchases of golf clubs were pretty much uneducated and not based on anything significant. This time i wanted to make sure that i was getting a great set. I researched for a few months, hit every demo i could find hoping to get an inkling of what i wanted. No demo came close to the mizuno x-20. EVERYTHING about the club, looks, feel, weighting, distance, confidence at adress, and the list goes on... these babies were what i needed. I looked around on the internet, and called a few proshops in my area, and they all told my 2-3 months...i finally found a set on ebay that a guy had ordered and never picked up and i got them for 590 bucks, with a shaft and grip upgrade. I have played 12 -13 rounds with them now, i have broken 85 4 times(something i never did with my old clubs). Try these out, they "click they make when you hit em pure is so satasfying. They cost no more than the titelists, or callaway, ortaylor made, and they are forged iron which goves you the ability to get them "bent" for your swing. and as an aside, try the mizuno blue rage driver... It is way better than my titleist 975D...

Being a lefty, and not too tall makes it even more difficult to find clubs that suit me. Used to play the Macgregor DX irons which are great for beginners but was looking to upgrade and the MX-20's are the sweetest clubs I have hit. Tried all the lefty clubs at a demo day but nothing came close to the MX-20's. Did not want to wait for custom order so I got them thru Clickandsavegolf.com. Great guys and very reliable. My only problem is the standard grip(kinda small and feels a bit thin). Also wud prefer 1 degree flat but will get it done soon.

Excellent clubs. Traded up from a set of Mizuno Sures. These are my first set of forged clubs and the feel is unbelievable. When you hit it on the sweet spot it's a click and the ball is gone...straight as an arrow. Mis-hits normally just take off distance unless you really miss it and no club can help that. In about 5 sessions on the range and 2 rounds have lowered my score from 115 to 101 and look to break 100 very soon.

Customer Service

Took a long time to get the clubs. Supposed to arrive in about 1 1/2 months but ended up to be over 2 months. The clubs were custon and perfect, but Mizuno could be a bit more accurate in their deleve

Absolutely outstanding. Previously used Titleist 962's. These blow them away. Easy to hit long irons (3,4), very easy to hit.Other irons are longer and straighter. Had the graphite shaft added to the 52 and 56 degree wedges-good decision. Great feed back, nice look and best of all better shots.I tried everything before buying these-it came down to the mx-20 or the new Ben Hogan Apex Pro. Pretty close but a bit mor distance club for club with Mizuno.
