Mizuno MP 30
I was playing with the Ping I3 blade and was looking for a club with a softer feel, a traditional look at address, and feedback from the clubhead. The MP 30 does all of these things. It is a very accurate iron, just point to the target and the ball will chase after it. Whether you hit a solid shot or a poor one, the ball stays online and provides the proper feedback -- you know when you hit it great, but more importantly when you hit it poor you know where on the clubhead the ball made contact. This club is definitely built for better ball strikers, no matter what your handicap. It is not a game improvment iron, it is a game enhancement iron. What this means is if you are good ball striker looking for the benefits of feel and workability than this is a great club. If you are a bad ball striker and want to use a club to get better -- this is not the club to buy. Go with Callaways, ping etc. Other clubs in this category include the Hogan AFX? the nike pro forged combo and the Cleveland ta2 amongst others. I chose the mp30 because of it soft feel. Mizuno makes the softest forged club on the market. Customer Service haven't used it. puetz fitted me. Similar Products Used: demoed the clubs i mentioned in the review |

I do not play as much as I used to. My lowest handicap was a 2, but with a career and kids it is hard to stay at that level. I played a cast cavity back for the last 10 years and loved them, but the trajectory was always to high. I shopped around, tried almost every brand of clubs and shafts and decided on the MP 30/MP 37 Combo set with rifle flighted 6.0 shafts. I think the rifle flighted is the best shaft out there for this club because of the trajectory and weight. It has taken awhile for me to get used to the distances, but my accuracy has definitely improved. The lie angle on Mizunos is flatter than other clubs, so getting fit for these clubs is a must. Overall, I am very happy with these clubs. Customer Service I have not used the customer service. Bought 6i-PW Saturday. Have played two rounds with them. The first day I tried them at the range I was a bit dissappointed. They seemed shorter than my Cleveland TA5's. My first round was really bad, though not the irons. Actually they were the best part, I just wasn't used to the distances. Well, I've now played another round and can tell you I hit more greens than I ever did in 1 round with the TA5's. Dead on accurate. 9i to 5ft, 8i to 6ft. Feel is awesome, feedback is great, forgiveness is suprising. I want to address a couple of terms that come up often. 1) Feedback. Why is it important? It allows you to internalize rapidly (without concious thought) HOW you missed the shot. You automatically correct over time. 2) Distance. Comparing different manufacturers clubs for distance by club number is meaningless. You must compare by club loft. If a mfg sells you a 6i loft (if there really were a standard) with a "7" stamped on it, what are you hitting? Check the mfg sites and you will find that the MP-30 are lofted weaker than allot of the Game Improvement clubs, including sister Mizuno models. Cleveland TA5 9i for example is 41deg. MP-30 9i is 43deg. Which do you think you would hit longer? Compare irons on accuracy and consistancy of distance. On those terms these irons are nothing short of spectacular. If you have a halfway decent swing and want to be close to the pin instead of just on the green, these are the ticket. "On the green" is where you miss with these. 70's here I come! The MP-30's are an excellent iron for the single digit handicapp looking for forgiveness. The folks who indicate they have lost distance don't realize - the entire set is designed for a lower (mid) trajectory. if you don't have the clubhead speed to hit a mid flight iron you'll lose distance - maybe the MP-33's are a better choice as they have weaker lofts. I have the Combo set (MP30's and MP37s). Quite possibly the best of both worlds. Similar Products Used: Former set, MP-14's played for 3 years. I also have played Arnold Palmer Standard Blades, Wilson Staff Blades and Ping I3 Blades - never liked the offset or the thick topline. |

Like others have said. WOW!! These clubs are great. They feel great and look great. I have no problem getting the ball into the air. One thing is that I have lost some distance because these clubs are about 2* less than my TA5s. That is not a big deal, I just have to learn the new distances. Anyway, these clubs are great. One word: WOW! But we'll get to that later. I have been playing X-14s for the past 3 years, but as my scores began dropping, I found that they weren't giving me any feedback at all. Whether I struck it off the toe, or in the sweetspot didn't feel much different to me. I was also looking for less offset, and something with a traditional blade look to it. After a couple months of decision making, I went for the MP 30s with S300 shafts. I had them fitted two degrees upright (as many reviewers noted, I recommend fitting as a must). My first round with them was uneventful. My second and third were so so. My fourth was spectacular, including my first eagle-2 (WOW). Shots hit on the sweetspot feel like butter, and I am able to work the ball much more reliably than before. I'm currently shooting in the mid 80s, and believe that these will be the clubs that get me to scratch. They may not be the most forgiving cavity backs, but that's exactly what I'm looking for at this stage to force me to get better. Customer Service Excellent. Very quick turnaround to all my questions via email and web. The customer service rep was able to answer questions via phone immediately. Excellent clubs. Moved from T-zoids. Similar, but these feel better. I have slightly different shafts which may be the difference. I have Mp 37's matched to the MP 30's. The 37's are from pw-7. These are awesome, but I would be afraid to play these as a long iron. My main problem is with the grips. I got the Mizuno full cords. These are thin and hard. I am switching them out for Lamkin full cords. Overall very pleased. Customer Service NA Similar Products Used: T-zoids. Titlist |

After a ten year break from playing, I bought a set of taylor rac os. I figured the forgiving cavity back would help me out till I got my swing back. Soon, I was pretty frustrated by my complete inability to work the ball. Everything went super high and straight. Along came these MP-30s. What a difference. They remain forgiving... but I can hit knock downs and shape the ball left and right. It's like throwing darts out there. They are super soft and give fantastic feedback. So far, I haven't a bad thing to say. The Dynamic Gold S300 shafts seem a nice fit. The workmanship seems first rate. Get them fitted. Since they are made for a Japanese market, they come standard 2-3 degrees flatter than most American standards. I break 80 maybe one out of five rounds. I'm now looking forward to doing it much more often. Customer Service haven't had to use them yet. The custom clubs reached me in about two weeks. Similar Products Used: I just traded in Taylor Rac OS. Tried the Titleist 762s with Gat 95s. Didn't like them. |
