Mizuno MP-14 Irons

Mizuno MP-14 Irons

DESCRIPTION

A favorite of dozens of PGA Tour Pros, the MP-14TM is one of the most popular forged blades on the PGA Tour and features a clubhead made of Grain Flow ForgedTM mild carbon steel. These nickel chrome plated forged blades are as solid as they look, delivering the feel and performance demanded by accomplished players. The MP-14 irons feature a cut-away muscle-back contour design with a slight offset to generate feedback and excellent workability. They also feature rolled leading edges to reduce turf drag.

The TP-9s are a fairly rare club (for lefties). Winged, muscle-back forged irons that are so beautiful you are afraid to strike balls with them. To hit one "pure" is to know true happiness. Neutral offset allows you to work the ball left/right and/or up/down. Distance is consistent with most other clubs I have played, except on off-center hits. Chipping, pitching and sand play are easier than with cast clubs because of the narrow sole. You must become a better striker of the ball with these clubs, or forget about playing them.

One of the purest clubs in the golfing universe. Played cavity backs for the longest time. I wanted to improve my game and used Titleist 990s previous to these miz''s. Way beyond comparison in terms of feel and ball reaction. Just that you have to keep on working on your game to max these clubs. But even then, practice sessions are way enjoyable because of the feedback one gets from hitting these sticks. Even on a bad day, correction on bad swings are easy to correct, errors are easily isolated coz whatever swing you put in the results show it. Am looking to have back up sets of these before they run out. Be careful of where the ball lies everytime you hit. Dinged my 6 iron coz i didnt c a rock which was under my ball. These are forged clubs and have to take care of them. Periodic Loft and Lie checks required. That''s All Happy Golfing!

I recently brought a set(2 weeks ago), all I can say is that it''s by far the best irons I have ever played. MP 14 truly live up to it''s name as the #1 irons on tour. Whatever mentioned in the previous reviews by many on how good, wonderful and sweet MP14 irons is, they are true and accurate. I just want to say to the rest of other ppl like me who uses this website to find out more on golf equipments, you can''t go wrong by following all the reviews in here(especially if you have doubts about what the sales person tells you). It took me about 6 months to decide that MP14 is the right choice...and I must say that this website help me a lot in the decision. Finally, many thanks to all of you who posted the reviews to help others like me.......cheers to you all!!!!

These clubs appealed to my eyes from the very first start, but I was interested in learning to inprove my movement on the ball. I've always had above average distance with any of the past clubs i've owned and was more concerned with...accuracy and again working the ball. I've only had these clubs since spring and I am just as pleased as so many of reviews have reported. The accuracy I now have is great, and I have improve my alignment and quest for the sweet spot. These irons are teaching me to put more creativity in my shots since I can feel feedback (unlike cavity back of my past)... overall they are raising my golfgame, but lower my scores.

Been hitting it for around 1 year now to be exact. Cannnot get used to it till recently. Have been changing between the Sures and the MP 14s but because my swing is not up to par yet, I preferred the Sures. The one thing that kept me from throwing away the 14s is because I love the look of it and the occasional solid strike I had with it. The sound it makes is music. The trajectory is beautiful and the accuracy is awesome. Well, things change for the better a couple of months back when I was just trying out the 14s again (like I used to once in a while to see if I've got the 'perfect' swing). With a club so heavy, I tried to hit it just using a whipping action and rotating my shoulders properly, ever so slowly and smoothly(no need to swing it so hard, ever seen a PGA pro perspire??). Believe me, since then, the 14s is always in my bag. Although the distance is not as far as I hope it to be, just the pure contact of the ball with the clubhead is enough. I'm hitting it more solidly now and I think that blades does not mean it's for low handicappers only. It can be used by anyone and it trains your swing better than other 'more forgiving' heads. It shows you the perfect contact for the perfect swing - almost. As for the Sures, I sold them off.

What more could one add to Troy's review. These are the real deal, and they will make you a better ball striker. The only draw back I would offer is really a mental problem. If I'm not swinging well enough to get that wonderful feel, then I'm not going to have fun. It does not matter to me if the shot winds up in the fairway, on the green or in the cup. If it wasn't flush, I'm pissed off. Likewise, long or short but on the the sweet spot, I'm happy. Of course, maybe that's just golf.

Solid, sleek and sexy, these are the sweetest irons ever made. A flush shot is purest ecstasy and worth every penny you paid. I have found nirvana. It is a 225-yd draw with a two iron. Sweet, sweet Jesus! It's like crack, only legal. A deep and subtle vibration resonates up through your spine and down to your toes and fingers and then fades away, a few orgasmic aftershocks chasing its wake.

With these clubs, however, you feel the agony as well as the ecstasy. In the pursuit of enlightenment I have encountered its antithesis in the 20-yd dribbler or shank--also with a two iron. Both experiences are more severe than anything you'll ever have swinging cast cavity-backs.

If you are the temperate, moderate, and cautious type; if you avoid cities, dogs, high-dives, and amusement park rides; if you go to bed at nine, beware these clubs. They will punish a poor swing and you will blame them for it. Stick with your Calloway toasters-on-sticks. They will get you through the round with minimal damage, their dull thud reassuring and predictable.

If you are a risk-taker, thrill-seeker, governed by passion and driven by desire, if you love the game of golf more than you know you should, then beware these clubs. They will drive you over the edge into mania, irrational exuberance. These are the real deal. Look out! You too will find ecstasy and return to taste it again and again. Family, friends, and job will suffer.

Should high handicappers (like me) buy these clubs? I don't see why not. The mp-14's teach you how to swing. They tell you after each shot exactly what you did wrong (or right). And they reward or punish accordingly. _That's_ a game improvement club! You may add a few strokes in the short term, but you'll learn a true swing rather than ingraining your disguised swing faults.

Also, it's not that hard to correct a slice, but it is when your irons are very offset and your driver isn't. With almost no offset, these blades give you consistency through all clubs. They play neutral, which means you get out exactly what you put in. That also makes it easy to work the ball both ways.

Much to my surprise, I found that in some ways, the mp-14s are easier to hit than clunky clubs. The small heads cut through rough easily and the thin sole let me "pick" shots off the sand in fairway bunkers. They also worked well from tight lies in the fairway. And I'm able to put a lot more spin on the ball with these than I could with my cast clubs. I stuck a lot of greens today--one from 195 with a five iron! (Slight tailwind and I used an XL-2000 exceptional spin ball.)

Some technical notes:

1. I lost about 5-10 yards in distance (on average shots) from my cast clubs. A number of factors could explain this. MP-14's are more lofted by 2 degrees, Mizunos are shorter and flatter clubs, since their customer base is primarily Japanese, and my old shafts were regular whereas the new ones are stiff. But maybe I just wasn't hitting them pure on average shots. Some shots flew the full distance--like that five iron mentioned above.

2. Mishits lose a lot of distance, and poorly struck balls can also slice or hook (the downside to workability).

3. Sensicore shafts help if you're a higher handicapper and don't like getting your bell wrung repeatedly.

4. Grain-flow forged means the head and hosel are one piece of soft steel, so you can make indefinitely many adjustments of loft and lie.

In short, these clubs will make memories for you, good and bad. You will remember the cut eight iron from 145 that backed up to the pin. And you will remember the shanked three iron that put you in the pine needles. If you're like me, you'll take the risk of losing a stroke or two per round, short term, for the memory of that cut eight iron.

If you want to taste the forbidden nectar come what may, buy these clubs.

Well, what can I say...work at a golf shop. I get to try everything that's out on the market and everything that 's not on the market. I've had these for 4 years now and wouldn't switch to anything else. Love the feel, distance, and control. The 29's are excellent too, but the lofts are stronger...yeah, why would anyone complain about hitting too far with their irons? Well, I don't have a problem with distance, but at 2 degrees weaker loft, the MP 14 are a lot easier to work the ball. I can hook or slice a ball 50 yards if I wanted to with the 14's. I was about a 15 handicapper when I bought the clubs...now I'm a single handicapp and shoot in the mid 70's. I know I'd probably will shoot even lower if I used an easier or more forgiving set of irons, but the feel on the MP 14's are just unbelievable...even better than the new MP 33's. I don't know if you can still get a new set of the 14's anymore, but if you can...don't hesitate, just get 'em even for collection. They're hansome, awesome, and simply THE NUMBER ONE IRON ON THE PGA TOUR.A

I was reluctant to try using blades because I'm usually a high 80s player, but I got hooked on the looks and reputation of the clubs. First time I tried them out, I shanked all my shots. But once I got used to them, there's no other feeling than hitting a ball flush with a forged iron.

Unlike Mr. Wilson I believe the best thing about MP-14's is the way they hit the ball. The slight offset, moderate topline, and classic shape inspire confidence in my iron play. The traditional head also makes knock downs, bump and runs, pitches and chips a breeze. There's no hot spots so short game feel and accuracy is perfect.

I demoed everything on the market last year and these irons won hands down. As a club junkie I'm always looking for new clubs and nothing has ever come close to replacing these--except maybe the MP-33's.
