Cleveland CG2 Irons

Cleveland CG2 Irons

DESCRIPTION

These new irons were specifically designed for the avid golfer and are ideal for the low to mid-handicapper searching for a club with the forgiveness of a cavity-back and the workability of a blade. These perimeter-weighted irons, made from Carbon Metal Matrix (CMM), have a small cavity-back design which offers increased control along with added forgiveness. The design of the CG2’s combined with revolutionary low-density properties of CMM have helped engineers at Cleveland Golf create irons with both increased MOI for extra stability at impact as well as a lower and deeper CG which helps promote a higher ball flight. The density relieving spheres within CMM also help dramatically damp vibration making the CG2 irons one of the most forgiving and solid feeling irons.

First of all... i'll start by saying I have a Cleveland bias ever since I hit the wedges.. Launcher drivers and my good 'ol TA5's... but saying that, I reviewed these as fairly as possible. These irons are INCREDIBLE. The first thing I noticed before I even hit a ball was the weight and balance of the CG2s is perfect, unlike some other forged irons i tried, especially some of the newer Titleists. The feel of the cg2s is, in my opinion, unmatched even compared to the "amazing" mp60s and mp32s. As for those few people who say these irons have a harsh feel.. try some impact tape because you're not hitting the sweet spot. And as for other people saying these have a low boring flight... yes they are penetrating which is very nice but with the workability of these clubs... I can hoist a 3 iron WAY up in the air and land it like a sack of potatoes.. and even spin a 3 which i couldnt do with my trusty ta5's. These irons play like blades, with the amazing feel and workability, but also provide really good forgiveness for the better player.. but if you cant hit the sweet spot at least 6 or 7 times out of 10... like all other blades and muscles these will hurt you more than help. Overall though.. these are by far the best irons i have ever hit

With the qualification that I'm considering a set of CG1's, I really, really like these irons:

1. The heads are comparatively small, which gives the feeling that I can control the club, rather than vice versa.

2. The soles are thinner, which, with the understated cavity and minimal, progressive offset, permits you to the ball high, low, right, and left.

3. While they will communicate information about mis-hits, shots around the sweetspot feel great, and distance control is excellent.

That said, my natural ball flight with my irons is a draw, and I have to work harder than I'd like to move the ball left to right. Also, the top line is a little thick for me (personal preference), and the short irons seem a little bulky.

Finally, while these irons will permit you to do a lot of things, and are probably more forgiving than most blades, you'd have to get used to them if you've been hitting a club with a larger head. Several of my friends in my handicap range that use larger clubs, like Callaways, have had trouble getting the ball up with my CG2's, a problem I haven't had.

If I do go to CG1's, it will only be because of the smaller head size and topline, and I'll have to be convinced the I have more control over the ball.

Replaced my Pick ISIs with these CG2 about three weeks ago. I'm really pleased with the results. Gained only a little distance but that was not my motivation. I wanted to move to a club where I could control the ball and have better feel. I got it and then some. I like the way they look and feel at address and I'm swinging them with confidence. Great ball flight expecially when I hit the sweet spot. Great clubs.

I picked these up in a trade. Had read good things about them, so what they heck. Pulled the stock Dynamic gold s300 shafts and replaced them with ti=sports titanium shafts. wow, what a super smooth iron. Distance is good, accuracy is even better. Was suprised on how solid and soft these felt. Very forged like. A good product from Cleveland

I read all the reviews on this iron and they were very positive. I purchased a new set and I am very disappointed. They have a harsh feel contrary to what I have read. The accuracy and distance are fine, but they just don't have a good feel.

I purchased these irons without alot of expectations. I was really just wanting to try something different. I have been interested in the new CG line of irons for a while now. The first thing that stood out to me was the beauty. They look great at setup and I love the satin finish. I was curious about the new metal and if they could accomplish the carbon forged feel out of a cast iron. After four rounds with my new CG2 irons I am sold on the idea. Wonderful feel. They look really good in my bag as well. They distance is the same as most blade-type irons. They trajectory is mid throughout the set with my swing. I am a fairly low ball hitter. After using quite a few new sets in the past year. This is a great set for anyone in the 0-10 handicap range. I don't notice alot of extra forgivness from my old MP-33s. If you are torn between these irons and the Mizuno MP-60. I feel the Cleveland CG2 irons is the best of the two.

I just picked up my new set and am very happy with them. They took a little getting used to because of the increased spin off the clubs as well as increased distance. I switched from a set of Hogan Edges. Of my old set, I could hit a 3-iron up to 200 yds, but no further. I'm hitting the Cleveland 3-iron around 215 yds. They feel great. Spinning shots on the green -- something totally new for me. Control and shot shaping attributes are terrific. Consistent w/ other comments below, they have a very clean look. I wanted to move to more of a blade-like club while not totally giving up on foregiveness. From what I've seen, this club offers the perfect balance.

Customer Service

Excellent. I was fitted at my course on a Saturday and the clubs arrived on Wednesday. I was stunned by the quick turn around time.

My previous set of irons was Clevelands TA3 and I have been hitting those well enough lately that I actually was regretting ordering my new CG2's. Not any more! If you want an iron that looks good at address, feels well balanced and offers forgiveness with some feedback look no further. I waited until I had a few rounds under my belt before writing this. My experience with irons is that I usually have a break in period of a few weeks. Not with these! After one range session these felt like I had them in my bag for years. I have never hit a three iron so long and so straight in my life (and consitantly). There is no doubt these will drop my handicapp a couple of more strokes. My one piece of advice is take the time to get measured and fitted. I bought my TA3's off the rack but had the CG2's fitted. The lie angle was changed and it made a huge difference. I have never been let down by any Cleveland product including their Launcher Driver and fairway woods.

Let me just start by saying these are sweeeeet. Some background first, I played MP14's for the better part of five years and while my game has not been as good as it used to be I thought about trying some "game improving" irons. After searching for the better half of a month and demoing sets, I ended up with the Cleveland TA7's. They are very nice and very easy to hit, but after playing more and more with them and just could not get past the off-set of the 3-5. Drawing/hooking the long irons was becoming an issue now that I am playing more and I wanted to get back to a more traditional set. I knew that I could not get back into blades so I landed a set of Cleveland CG2's. Nice set-up smaller compact head and slightly narrower topline than the TA7. These clubs "feel" like butter when you strike the ball. Reminded me right away of my ole MP14's. Lower ball flight then the TA7's with more of a muscle back right behind the ball. Still a cavityback, but the looks of a blade. Sweet Jesus these are nice and my game is "Back On"!

Awesome clubs. I tried TA2's, MP32,MP30, and LT2's before buying these CG2's and I love them. Very soft feel, accurate as hell and a little longer than the above mentioned clubs. I also picked up the CG10 wedges and hitting more greens than ever before. These will be staying in my bag for a long time. If you're looking for something between a Game Improvement club and a pure blade, try these out.
