Cleveland CG2 Irons

Cleveland CG2 Irons

DESCRIPTION

These new irons were specifically designed for the avid golfer and are ideal for the low to mid-handicapper searching for a club with the forgiveness of a cavity-back and the workability of a blade. These perimeter-weighted irons, made from Carbon Metal Matrix (CMM), have a small cavity-back design which offers increased control along with added forgiveness. The design of the CG2’s combined with revolutionary low-density properties of CMM have helped engineers at Cleveland Golf create irons with both increased MOI for extra stability at impact as well as a lower and deeper CG which helps promote a higher ball flight. The density relieving spheres within CMM also help dramatically damp vibration making the CG2 irons one of the most forgiving and solid feeling irons.

Just got my cg2's today in almost new condition from e-bay. After verifying they weren't fake by an expert at Golf Town (Canada), headed down to the range for a "test drive". All I can say is WOW! The feel when you catch the sweet spot is unbelievable. I even striped a few 3-irons past the 200 mark. And these were just range balls! Can't wait to try them on the course.

I got really good feedback on mis-hits with these, which is important. The way I look at it, a crappy swing will and should always result in a crappy shot. That's why we have pro's who can help us get the most out of our games.

The clubs look great at address, with minimal off-set, and make the Hogan bh5's look like hockey sticks! Would agree with a previous post that if you have a reasonable swing and can catch the sweet spot 7 out of 10 times, you have to try these clubs. Will post again after a few rounds.

I have been stuck at around a 12 hdcp for a year or two now using BH-5 irons. I just bought the cg2 irons after demoing them a few times. Needless to say I was very happy, and a little bit surprised by how the clubs felt in the simulator. The clubs feel amazing when struck pure, and the odd minor miss hit still travels reasonably well. I hope to get my handicap into single digits with these. Anyone interested in these clubs should visit their nearest Golftown, because they are on sale, along with Hogan FTX's for $498.99 cdn. an excellent deal for both sets.

I am finally writing a review after having bought and trade numerous sets in the quest to find the perfect clubs for me. I wanted a set that I could use now but wouldn't want to replace in a season or two - "the ones" if you like. I tried Ping G5s (good distance control, but not the feel I was looking for). I then tried Titleist 704s (great feel, great flight, but felt heavy and a little clunky). There were several trials in between, but these were the main 2 sets I played with.

I bought the CG2s, had to have them adjusted as they had been customised for someone else. I replaced the grips with Golf Pride New Decade Multicompund (highly recommended). I have played 2 range sessions and a full round with them now and think they're fantastic.

I like the smaller head - it gives a more headlight feel and is easier to make contact in the rough than larger models. I got more height and distance than the 704s and will need to adjust my distances to match. I did not find them to be unforgiving, no more so than other clubs I have tried.

I believe my search for the perfect irons for me is over.

I love these irons.
Great look, great feel, great price.
What else can you ask for?
These are NOT coming out of my bag for quite sometime. I would reccommend these to any medium-scratch golfer. High handicaps shouldn't purchase these because they have a very thin sole which is tougher to hit and does not have a large cavity back that high handy's can benifit from.

WOW, these are simply the best irons on the market right now! Im was highschooler shooting in the mid 70s, and after playing with these babies I fired a 68 and 70 in a recent tournament. it just seems like every single time you put these clubs in your hand, you will see that their not clubs that you take out to the range one day and hit them beautifully, and the next day hit them terrible. These are the most consistant irons of all time!!! THANKS CLEVELAND!!!!

Love these babies. They're not for everyone though. A 15-20 can still enjoy these but they'll have to hit the range. I picked these up after using the titleist 962B to obtain a bit more distance and not loose the feel. Thats exactlly what i got. It's not the hardest club in the world to hit but you cant slap one on the toe and expect it to fly like an oversized club will. The workability isnt as good as say a blade but who likes stinging hands, simply put its a great iron.

For the sake of simplicity, I'll make this review short and sweet. These Cleveland CG2's are simply the best irons I have ever owned.

I made the terrible mistake of being convinced by golf store salepeople that blade style irons are for either low handicap players or people that practice enough to keep your game in shape. Despite their good intentions, this advice actually hurt my game and this was never more prevalent when I decided to "damn the torpedos" and give my ball striking a little more credit and bought these irons.
After 5 rounds of golf and some range time, I haven't been this pleased or excited about my iron game in years.

The CG2's are made with Cleveland's wonderful CMM material (which is their brand of forging). I was introduced to this material 2 years ago with my CG10 50 and 56 degree wedges and the tactile information they transmit continues to impress me. Not only do I love the feel of this material but with these CG2's, I now get it from every iron. I've owned forged clubs in the past and these irons feel every bit as satisfying as any of Titleist's or Mizuno's fine products.

In regards to playability, I've resdiscovered my confidence with these pin seeking wonders. These irons play very consistantly, are at least 1 to 2 clubs longer than my previous Titleist 804's and they're very forgiving for a players club.

I couldn't recommend them enough and truly commend Cleveland for creating such a fine product.

I am 15 years old and bought these irons about 8 months ago. I had only been playing for a year and wanted to try something similair to a blade. After 6 months of the CG2's I swithced to a set of Titleist 695 MB's and used those for 2 months. I noticed a very long change in distance and surprisingly had trouble with the short irons rather than the long irons. I swithced back to the CG2's last week and shot a 5 under 67 with 7 birdies. I am going to stick with the CG2's until i grow a little bit more. They are long yet easily shaped. Great irons.
