Update to my review below. I've been taking some serious lessons and playing a lot. I've already hit the High 90's. These clubs are a big reason I believe (along with the lessons of course). They give me a lot of feedback. I know when I hit towards the heel and I know when I hit towards the toe. Hitting the sweet spot is pure luxury and with my swing work over, getting a slight draw almost everytime (if it doesn't go dead straight) I love the Pro grips as well since I tend to have sweaty hands. I'm now hitting the 7 Iron an easy 160 with a nice relaxed swing and I can hit the 3-iron really well... contemplating a 2-iron. If you are on the fence about these clubs I'd say go for it. I used to use Callaway X-14 Pro. Because I heard from people that forged iron is better, then I changed to Ben Hogan Apex Blade, and Tour Stage V7000. Suddenlly I lost all my swing and my confident. After a year, I thinking of change back to my X-14 Pro but it'll looks funny if I do so. Well, it is a good new for me to hear that Callaway release their new club model X-16 Pro, then I bought it. This is wonderful, I get back my game in a short period. At least now I've gained my confident. From my experience, we can't say that forged always better than cast. Maybe the feel is better, but if it is not a friendly club, not easy to hit, so how could we feel it? Feel worse. I believe from friendly, it'll gain confident, and from confident, it'll lower your handicap. This club is very friendly and solid. For me, it is far better feel than other forged. It is the best club I've ever tried. Customer Service Dunno Similar Products Used: Callaway Hawk Eye, Callaway X-14 Pro, Tour Stage V7000 |

Played hand me down forged for 30+ years when I switched to the X-14 Pro Series 2 years ago. These took me from a 12 to 7 hndcp. So why switch to the X-16? The choice was easy after working with a Callaway rep at the club for an hour. Was able to hit many more shaft configurations after being fitted for length, with the pro and rep looking for the proper trajectory. But what I was most taken by, was the softer feel compared to the X14, even though a more boring flight path is what the other 2 were wanting. Callaway was able to improve the feel of the club head and provide some seriously good shaft configurations. Also improved are the loft progression (still strong), but for someone like myself who lives for his wedge distances into the green, the modifications to the 8-P are outstanding. Set is more geared like a hy-brid with more forgivness in the long irons and playability in the short. Recommend giving them a try and get past the hype between forged and cast. The pros have made the transition in thier sets. Customer Service Have always had great service from Callaway, even repairs are resonably priced and done to perfection. Also without the Trade In, Trade Up program, I probably would have stayed with the 14's longer. But glad I didn't have too. I just want to let people know that this is awesome clubs. I have been trying so many different clubs from many manufactures, such as TM, Titleist, Cleveland, Wilson, Honma, Mizuno, any other model of Callaway. I do have Rifle Constant Weight Tour Regular shaft, which is little bit stiffer than Constant Weight. So much easy to control the ball. Can't hit long irons like # 3, # 4, # 5? Well, think about how much you are dedicated to practice long irons than short irons. I do beleive there are two opinion about these clubs, either good or bad. Well, everybody has different opinion and different tastes. For me, these are the great clubs available out there. My previous clubs were X-16 ( non pro series model ) and before that, I had Big Bertha 2002. If you hit 140 ~ 160 yds with 7 iron, then this Tour regular shaft is perfect for you, do not go with Tour stiff. Besides, it is nice looking clubs. I hope my review helps people out there who try to find clubs. Customer Service Never had a chance to use customer service. An obvious high handicapper, I wasn't happy with my used clubs that were just simply terrible. I wanted to get a complete custom fit iron set, 3-pw, SW & LW. At Fairway Golf Center I was able to demo six different clubs, some with different shaft combinations. I hit: Callaway X-16 Callaway X-16 Pro Taylor Made RAC LT Taylor Made RAC OS Ping i3+ Wilson Fat Shaft something or other. Customer Service For me, the Callaway X-16's were easiest to hit and most consistent. My best 6-iron shots went 170, with most going 160 in the air. The TM's were both excellent also, but seemingly not as forgiving on off-center hits. The Ping I just didn't like much even though I was hoping too. It was the least forgiving for me. The Wilson's were very easy to hit, but no feedback at all. So I hit the TM's and Callaways some more and liked the Callaways better. Since I plan on taking lessons and hopefully hit the 90's this summer, I also wanted something I wouldn't outgrow, so I tried the X-16 Pros, which have less of an offset, and are supposed to be more workable. So hitting between the two, I definitely felt a little more potential in the Pros. I purchased 3-PW, SW, & LW. I may eventually get the Callaway Forged Wedges (designed by Roger Cleveland) but we'll see how it goes. I gotta wait three weeks! |

Based upon the reviews I read here and a friend who played the X-16's (he's a 16 handicap), I borrowed my friends and gave them a try. I've played "blades" my entire life and average high 70s to low 80s. My forged Wilson tour blades are 22 yrs old and I was looking for something a little more forgiving. This was my first experience with Callaway clubs and that might be the reason I just couldn't get comfortable with them. The X-16s were "ok"....but when I compared them to a Mizuno, Titleist, Hogan's or Cobra's...they just didn't measure up. Very little "feel" and "very difficult" to hit out of tight lies or deep rough. For some these clubs might be the perfect fit (mid to high handicap)....but I'd recommend a low handicapper give other clubs a serious look before deciding on these. Out of all the clubs I've tried over the past month...unfortunately I would have to rate these behind all the ones I've listed below. I've played the original Big Bertha's for many years. I decided to step up and purchase the new X-16. Initially I hit them well until I got to the course. I have the Rifle non-flighted shafts in my other Bertha's 5.5's. The X-16 seemed a little stiff and consequently I had little feel in the head. I called Callaway in Carlsbad, Ca. and they scheduled a fitting and said that they will "tweek" the lie and replace the shafts if necessary for NO CHARGE. Cool! I can't recommend the wedges from any Callaway set however. I use Taylormade Bubble shaft wedges P-L wedges. Customer Service Callaway is a great company and they stand behind their product.I've used there clubs almost exclusively. They have made warranty repairs for clubs well out of the warranty period for no or little charge. Taylormade will not do this or even talk to you on the telephone. I had recently purchased a set of Callaway Big Berthas 2002 but after using them for about 5 rounds I could not get used to them... These irons are clunky and provided zero feel, most hits generated "moon" shots and I was not able to work the ball... I also lost a lot of distance with these... I decided to call the boys at Callaway Golf Pre-Owned to see if they had a set of the x-16 Pro series... Sure enough, they found a like new (brad new really) set and traded in the Big Berthas... I am glad that I made the move... the x-16 pro series are a sweet set of sticks... The feel and feedback of these irons are amazing... i was also plesantly surpised to find out how forgiving these irons were... I am able to hit controlled draws and fades while keeping a low trajectory... These clubs will be in my bag for loooong time... Customer Service Callaway has the best customer service... I have used Callaway Golf Pre-owned (check out their website) for several purchases and they are great... When you call these guys they are knowlegeable not only about their products but also about the game... they ask good questions and try to fit you with right equipment... I used to play a set of 1968 Hogan Blades...I just go these Callaways and they are like Magic. Even hits not right on the sweet spot take off. Super distance and feel and the forgiveness compared to my old clubs is night and day. These are a gem!! |
