Callaway X-12 Irons

Callaway X-12 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The 1998 Big Bertha Irons feature all of the game-enhancing characteristics of the Great Big Bertha Titanium irons in a stainless steel head. The sweet-spot of the club has been increased over the standard Big Bertha iron. The weight has been re-distributed around the club and the center-of-gravity has been lowered to create a more heel-and-toe balanced iron. The top line has also been thinned to make this the most playable club Callaway has ever created. (Price for 3-PW Steel Shaft)

I bought the Pro series 3-PW with the 7.0 Rifle shafts and the AW,SW,and LW with the regular X-12 head all at 1"" over standard. I had been playing the Ping eye2+. I've found the distance to be the same except in the SW and LW which is 15 yards shorter with a full swing. The thicker top line took a while to adjust to. They are as solid and forgiving as the eye2+ with possibly a little bigger sweet spot. I have found them easier to work the ball than the regular X-12. I haven't been disappointed with these irons.

The local pros don't like dealing with them.

I got my X12s in June and my scores have been falling ever since. Sure they look a little bulky. I hit them high and consistent. So it really doesn't matter what they look like. They are playable from all lies: fairway, rough, hardpan, whatever. I thought that I would be able to curve the ball whith these when I tried them. I was wrong. I can control shot shape and height easily. Some say that they are too bulky to use around the greens. I don't think so. I feel confident using the bump and run with these clubs from all areas around the greens. The two biggest things about these are that I have 1 and 2 iron. I didn't have a 1 or 2 in my set of 845s. The 1- and 2-irons are great for tight tee shots on par 4s as well as second shots on par 5s if you want to lay up. Another thing is that the forgiveness of these are great; you can get the ball airborne with little effort. The 1-5 are long and straight with good set-up at address. The 6-P also go up high and land very soft. All of the clubs have great feel and shot command. I recommend these to players of all ability levels. For example, I have an Uncle who is just starting to play golf and has X12s. My friend who is 2-handicap likes his x12s. They have helped my game; see what they will do for yours.

Just got these irons the other day; had previously used Black Cat irons and the original Big Bertha Irons. These have got to be the best, most forgiving irons I have ever hit, they really work hard to make me play better than I probably should. I may never own another set of irons....end of story.

These clubs are by far the most well balanced, forgiving and accurate irons I have ever hit. Callaway has really done their homework on these. One word to the wise though. The stiff shaft is very stiff. The bore through hosel makes this shaft more stiff than a conventional stiff shaft . I had to have mine re-shafted down to regular because the stiff is realy stiff. Other than that get a set of these..........You will love them. GREAT JOB CALLAWAY!!!!

Customer Service

Their customer service is outstanding. There is no other service department like it in the world and no I don't own any Callaway stock nor do I work for them. They are just a top notch American company. It is a pleasure doing business with them.

OK, let me first begin by saying that I have tried just about every iron out there for the last 5 years. I've tried every Ping model (always went back to the Eye 2), Mizuno Model, etc. I could never find an iron that was very forgiving and felt great at the same time. Well, I have found it now. The X-12 irons are fantastic. They have a soft feel, great trajectory, good shaft (Memphis 10)and look pretty good at set up. The long irons are so easy to hit. Just to let you know, I'm a 3 handicap. I can hit the ball low, high, fade it, punch it, etc. I would highly recommend these to any golfer...scratch to beginner. One more thing, I've heard people say things like you can't work these irons...Not true. Besides, I'm a 3 handicap and I rarely try to work the ball. Like most people, just getting on the green is my main objective. These irons help me accomplish that.

I think that this would be an excelent club for a begginer.I am a bogey golfer and I do not think that these clubs will help to improve my game. These clubs hook badly also. If you wanted a set of X-12s go with the pro series.

I purchased the X-12 irons about 3 months ago after a round of golf at Pebble Beach with a set of Callaway rental clubs! As a beginner, these X-12 irons are so easy to go to work with. You can feel the weight of the clubhead which produce good shots.I will play with these clubs for a long time.

Customer Service

Klunky and funky to look at. Found it hard to line up. Look like they were made during the Civil War era. Solid feel when you hit'em! Overpriced for what they are.

I've had these clubs for about six months and have nothing but good things to say about them. They increased my distance by 1-2 clubs immediately, and since then I have increased my distances even more. When hit well, you barely feel anything. The only problem I saw with these was the fact that when I tried to kill one of my shorter irons, they would hook. And soon I had to slow down my swing with my short irons. Also, producing distance with your shorter irons is a bit harder with these clubs unless you really come down at them. But, all in all, great clubs.

Great set of golfclubs. I use the X-12 with the standard Memphis steel shaft. It is a very forgiving set of clubs although I have to say that a less exprienced golfer would be better of with the graphite shafts. I gained a lot of consistency with this set and lowered my score with 3 strokes.

Customer Service

Great customer service. The callaway will replace a club with no questions asked. Super!!!
