Over the last 2 months I have been looking to buy new clubs. Callaway caught my eye and I figured if this was going to my first real investment in this game I should do it right and shop it before I buy. So I went to my local golf course and was allowed to demo various brands of clubs such as Wilson Fat Shafts, Cleveland TA5's, Nike Slingshots and Callaway Big Bertha Irons. I consistantly seemed to hit very well with the BB's even at times when I missed hit I was still hitting them extremely well. I was hitting anywhere from 160 to 175 yds with the 6 Iron BB. I liked the feel and the weight of the club as I swung. In the past I have always thought Graphite was the way to go when buying clubs but I was very wrong. The shop attendant recommended the BB's steel shaft vs. the Graphite shaft after watching me hit with Wilson Blue Steel 6 Iron (Graphite) which I sliced and then BB's 6 Iron (Steel Shaft) which had almost no slice. Overall I'm very pleased with the BB's and cant wait to get out on the course and use these clubs.

Just bought the Big Bertha 2002 Irons with Graphite shafts. I wouldn't have believed the dirrerence unless I experienced it for myself. Played with them for the first time yesterday and they are magnificent. Played at least two shots that amazed even me - huge 4 iron to the green and perfect 7 iron over trees to the green both resulting in pars - these clubs are worth every cent and will make the game much more enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I just purchased my Big Bertha 2004 graphite irons. I have never hit irons so well in my life. They are so easy to hit and very forgiving. I shaved at least five strokes off of my game in the first two rounds I played. They are straight and long. I can't wait to get out again and play with these clubs. They look good feel good and perform great. If you are looking for a game improvement these are the clubs for you.

Model Reviewed: 2004 Callaway Big Bertha Irons with uniflex steel shafts

Just purchased my 2004 Callaway Big Bertha Irons (uniflex steel shafts). Beautiful, easy to hit, very forgiving irons. I spent a lot of time comparing new irons. Needed to replace my clone Adams. I have only been playing golf for two years and want to put more attention to my irons since I feel my game was regressing. Wanted a strong game improvement iron to provide me maximum accuracy and control. Must have hit 300-400 balls with demos before being professionally fitted. Instructor put me through a complete analysis. Measured at 75-85 swing speed with a 6 iron, + 2 degree upright lie. I hit both a steel and graphite version of each club. The steel, by far is a more accurate iron for me. Also, taking some new lessons to correct some of the bad habits I’ve picked up. Tested the Cobra SSi, Taylor Made RAC HT, Ping G2, Mizuno MX-23 and the 2004 Callaway Big Bertha’s. Initially, I wanted to buy the Cobra’s (a friend of mine loves his SSi’s) but I just didn’t hit them very well and they weren’t very forgiving when you hit a bad shot. It was cold the 2-3 days I was testing the clubs and the SSi’s let you know it. By far the 2004 Callaway Big Bertha’s were the easiest clubs to hit. The 2004 Callaway’s hit straight high arching shots that went where you aimed. Even off centered shots didn’t punish me that bad. Best steel club to hit in cold weather. The Taylor Made RAC HT came in second, were a little longer but not as accurate. I kept pushing the ball to the left. The Ping and Mizuno were nice clubs but I just didn’t, consistently, hit them as well as the Callaway’s. I would recommend these clubs to anyone looking for the best game improvement irons on the market.

Customer Service

Mid Atlantic Golf Center and Callaway customer service are the greatest. I have become a Callaway fan.

These are wonderful irons in pristine conditions (ex. excellent fairways, minimal rough). However, if the conditions are less than ideal watch out for those wide soles! You can put a great swing on the ball only to watch it be skulled because those big radius soles bounce into the ball. For the courses I play and some of you can relate, a more blade like iron would help. When hit off a tee they do the job right. My other complaint about these irons; you feel like you're swinging a freaking waffle iron on a stick-they're heavy! I'm 10 yards further with Taylor Made 320s. I'm going to switch to some Mizunos or Taylor Mades.

I've played the 1996 Bertha irons for several years before switching last year to Cleveland TA5's. The TA5's are great clubs that are extremely long - too long. I found myself with about a twenty yard gap between my PW (125 yards)and my Volky approach wedge. This winter I tried the 2002 Berthas as they've been marked down quite a bit to make room for the 2004 Berthas. I went with the 5-SW set and added the Lob wedge since I already used Rescue Mids in place of my long irons. The 2002 Berthas are very high trajectory and seem to want to turn over for a slight draw more than my TA5's. I'm very happy with the 4 deg. gap between irons and the distance control I'm getting. Feel, distance & trajectory was very similar to the Nike Slingshots but the Berthas are about $200 less this days.

Model Reviewed: Callaway 2002 Big Bertha Irons Graphite Firm

After going through several sets of irons this past year, I finally halted my search for the most forgiving set of irons without loss in distance. The Big Bertha 2002 with RCHi Firm Flex Graphite stands out above the rest. Compared to Callaway X-16, X-14, Ping ISI-K, and Zing 2,(I have owned and used all within the past year) the Big Bertha has the perfect combination of forgiveness and distance. All ball flight are boring, high, and long. Even with the 3 and 4 irons, both which I normally have a hard time hitting, is now as easy to hit as my short irons. You can hit the ball off the toe and it will still go straight, but will give-up some distance. I can intentionally draw the ball with these clubs and un-intentionally slice, so it is somewhat workable. I am more focused on game improvemnet than workability at this point, and these irons get the job done. It brings back the fun in the game. Even if you driving or short game goes down the tubes, you can still feel good about your Big Bertha II's not letting you down. I purchased the set 4-10 + PW through E-bay new for $450.00 which was a steal. I added the three iron later, after realizing I can hit the 4 iron with relative ease. I would recomend getting fitted first with proper form (getting fitted with a bad swing or posture may is not a good idea). Callaway will adjust your clubs for free which includes lengthening or shortening the shaft. They will even pay for shipping. Can't beat that.

Customer Service

Super customer service, will go above and beyond.

Model Reviewed: 2004 Callaway Big Bertha

Never thought I would ever play a Callway club! I have tried the X-14 pro and more recently the X-16. I have always played blades and for the most part, got away with it due to averaging between 280 and 300 yards off the tee. I always had to work on the irons as the consistency was not always there. My most recent exploits were the Taylormade RAC MB blades. Beautiful clubs, just hard as hell to hit! Finally decided to try a game improvement club with some offset. That being the X-16. I was pretty impressed. However, the offset did not appeal to me that much. However, I was able to hit the ball higher than my normal low ball flight due to a strong right hand grip. My local course got the new 2004 BB clubs in and I hit them just for the hell of it today. My God! What took me so long? I have punished myself entirely too long playing blades! These clubs when hit anywhere near the center of the face, feel just as good as any forged club! And believe, I have played all of them! My ball flight was high, yet still boring and about the same distance as my previous blades when hit well. But, with much more accuracy with little effort! I take a large divot and even with these wider soles, can still take one. The uniflex shaft plays to about a 5.5 flex in rifle. I absolutely love these irons! I know, many are saying that no way in hell a 70s golfer would play something this big! Absolutely wrong! Yes, it was nice to shape my shots a few times every round. However, they did not always work and it just is not worth it! Trust me, just give these a try! Can't believe I let my ego control me this long!

Customer Service

Never had a Callaway club longer than 2 weeks. Always traded them off.

I have used these irons now for a month and they are so forgiving, much more than my previous Taylor Made RAC OS irons were. My ball flight is higher, is no longer but is much more accurate. Off centre shots lose very little distance and I would recommend these irons to any mid to high handicap level golfer.
