16 years ago, I purchased my first set of Hogans. I sold them 8 years ago, and it was a BIG mistake!!!

I tried other brands, but there is NOTHING that compares to the quality, feel, or performance that you get with Hogan Apex clubs.

TO be sure that you spend a little extra on forged. I have listed the latest clubs that I have tried. The Armours, and Maxfli revolutions are wonderful clubs. If you cannot afford Hogans, these are a good alternative, with the Revolutions getting the nod. The Clevelands are worse than an off the shelf set of 1980 Nicklaus Golden Bears! They are overpriced junk and feel the same!!!!

In short, the Hogans are superior to anything that I have EVER hit. I'm saving my pennies to get a set of 2000's! Watch eBay for good buys!

Remember that Golf clubs themselves are no substitue for practice, and taking a few lessons from your local PGA or LPGA pro will do you a world of good!

These clubs are easily the finest set of clubs I have ever owned. I would even say they are a work of art like a piece of fine jewelry. Oh and by the way for the first time in my life I can now hit towering long irons in to greens.

These are the best feeling irons ever made. Pure feedback and ball response. Thumbs up to spalding for carrying the Hogan tradition of quality and craftsmanship. These are as beautiful a club as you'll ever find, also. I started playing golf at age 7 with a set of Hogan "Little Ben's". I hit pings for many years in between. I'm glad to be back. I forgot what a "real" golf shot felt like.

Customer Service

Excellent response from Hogan.

These are the best irons I have ever played. Not only are they the most beautiful irons ever made but their feel is unbelievable. These clubs are a combination of the 1994 and 1988 Apex and the combitation makes this club obsolete. I shoot in the eighties and they feel great, so I recommend that any golfer at least try them. Hogan is going back on top with these clubs!!

I own each model year since 72. No doubt the best years are 84-87 (Apex PCs) and 88-89 (redlines). The PCs are the purest blades ever made and the redlines added a bit of bottom for a slightly higher trajectory. Nothing wrong with latter models (although the 94-98 channelbacks looks a bit too oversized for me in the short irons). Hogans as a rule are "crisper" than the MPs and Wilsons and softer than MacGregors. Would strongly recommend buying a used set and refinishing them if you have the game. Shaft technology has basically been static since the late 70s (apex 4 = stiff).

Model Reviewed: Hogan Apex plus

I have spent the last three weeks trying every club out there. The Apex Plus was not the most forgiving, but it sure was the most fun.Nothing compares to the feel of a forged blade and the cavity back of the Apex Plus provides some forgivness. If you want to hit the ball straight every time get the Willson Fat Shaft(what a shovel)or the Callaway X14(another shovel)but if you are a decent striker of the ball and want the best looking, best feeling iron on the market today get the Hogan Apex Plus.

As a "feel" player, I took my time and over the past 12 months tested out just about every top line iron on the market. Without a doubt, I found the Hogan Apex Plus iron to be the best feeling cavity back golf club on the market today. The feedback you get when you hit the sweet spot with one of these irons is simply beyond belief and the cavity back expands the sweet spot just a touch so you don't have to have the skill of a tour pro to thoroughly enjoy these beauties. In addition to their great feel, they are without a doubt the most beautiful looking irons on the market. Distance and a pro-style boring trajectory is excellent with these irons. Finally, setting up to hit a shot with one of these is pure joy. They visually set up behind the ball so easy (especially the short irons) that it's just pure joy to use them. Without a doubt, the best irons I've ever owned!

Customer Service

Hogan Customer Service was great. Ordered my set totally custom, i.e, length, grip size, lie and even had Hogan weaken the loft on the gap wedge by 1 degree. All that and I received my clubs in 14 days.

These blades are very solid hitting clubs; hats off to Spalding for carrying on the tradition. Having never played eighteen holes with any form of cavity back I must say that if Hogan keeps making clubs like these then I never will find out what a cavity back is all about. Golfers who want to improve must play a muscle back because that is where feel is learned and it cannot be bought through any lesson. My guess is that this club is going to be in many tour players' bags once they realize that forged steel can never be compared to cast clubs. Titliest should follow suit and start selling some of the clubs that they make for players like Woods, and Elkington, because Hogan will soon take them all.
