1999 Hogan Apex
I picked up my Hogan Apex 1999 from eBay @ a great price "$175" in excellent condition. Cosmetically one of the best looking clubs in the market, they will turn heads. The clubs specs are standard loft, lie and length with steel shaft(#4 Apex flex= stiff flex). Now for the Pros and Cons of this club.I have only hit 2 buckets of ball @ the driving range, but for the most part these clubs are deadly accurate-just point and click. The feel, when hit in the sweet spot, is like butter, cold butter that is. I put tape on the club face to make sure I was striking the club in the center to confirm what I was feeling was correct. The distance was one club less than my Cleveland TA-1's and Mizuno MP-14's. The playability of the clubs took some time for me, due to the larger club head compared to Cleveland TA-1's and Mizuno MP-14's. Yet, overall a decent set of clubs for being stock. But if you want to get the best out of these clubs you must change the Hogan shafts. The Hogan shats, like many factory shafts, are very weak compared to todays standards. I had the shafts analyzed with a Frequency Analyzer machine and learned that Hogan Apex #4 (stiff flex) was actually an A-flex (Senior flex). Therefore, the real issue, no matter what name brand clubs you purchase, is the shaft. The the shaft is the heart and soul of a club. Therefor, you must get after market shafts that are custom fitted to your swing to get the maximum performance, along with reading Ben Hogan's book- Five Lessons The Modern Fundamentals of Golf. I'm off to my club fitter to put Rifle 6.0's in my Hogans. I will report back with my result of the Rifle shafts @ a later date. Similar Products Used: CLEVELAND TA-1, MIZUNO MP-14,29, AND 33. Hogan Apex
I've played these clubs for two years now, traded in a set of 88 Apex on them. Ordered from Hogan with Rifle 6, 3 deg up, 2 deg strong, corded grip. They were quite well assembled. My only complaint is that the serial nos. are affixed with shaft tape at the grip level, and the tape is now coming off. Should have bought a 1 iron so I had a club I didn't use to remember the serial number, and so that previous review dude could use it. This is a forged conventional iron of very high quality. It feels just as good as any other conventional forged iron from Mizuno, Titleist, etc. The head is small, which I like for easier alignment and better use from tight lies. There is no offset to speak of anywhere, also a good thing as offset leads to hooks for me. I find the clubs hit the ball quite high even with a half club strong loft. The sole bounce is well calibrated, for me, as they dig just a tad, but not too much like some forged I have hit. Distance is still about half a club short of what I can hit some of the bigger game improvement sticks, but consistency is much better than what I have experienced from those "improvement" clubs. Sweet shots are very sweet, thin shots are very sour. There is no magic here, just a first rate iron that aligns easily and imparts a sense of visual confidence. If you want a garden plow with a 2 inch offset, look elsewhere. If you want a solid set of irons, this would be an excellent choice. Without a shadow of a doubt the finest blade I have ever played, going back to the Ram Tour Grind, Cleveland Byron Nelsons, TA1's, 681's etc, the hogans are by far the best looking and most consistent irons you could hit, consistency is the the number one requisite in golf and these irons deliver that in spades, the feel is so soft and flight is high strong and guaranteed to stop quickly on greens, I absolutely love them, have been using them for some four months now and all I can say is thank you Ben Hogan, also special thanks to Spalding for maintaining the Hogan excellence. Customer Service My stockist has met all requests promptly which must mean his supplier works well Similar Products Used: Ram Tour Grinds, Cleveland assorted blades, 681's |

No other Iron looks as good or Feels as good to play with as these clubs. They give you the feeling that any shot is possible, the facs sits perfect behind any lie. I have found that Callaway or Ping style clubs just look to big and bulky to give you the feeling of being able to hit a good ball. I will not change my Hogan's until some thing better comes along. Apex Blade
I learnt to play using my father's old set of blades. When I decided to replace my current set (Cobra oversized with Graphites) my first round was not too good for me(Shot 93)...Once I realized that with the Hogans I was losing about a club to a club 1/2 distance I really improved my game. I broke 80 for the first time on my 4th round with them. Since then, I consistently shoot in the low 80's to high 70's. These clubs are worth every penny, they allow you to control your ball flight, and give you instant feedback on how you are contacting the ball. I LOVE THESE CLUBS! Customer Service Haven't needed them, the clubs are just that well made. Similar Products Used: Cobra oversized graphite, cleveland wedges.. |

I have played Mizuno clubs for as long as I can remmeber and had every intention of purchasing MP 33s but was dissapointed with the feel compared with the MP29's. I tried the Apex on a whim and really liked the look and feel of the clubs, they seem less forgiving than the MP 29s but have a similar solid feeling at impact. I don't have the best game in the world but I am a strong believer that improvement should come from swing changes not clubs, the Apex will reward every improvement I make and will not disguise my swing faults. Hopefully this year I can break 80. Customer Service As good as any other manufacture Similar Products Used: MP 14 / 29, TZoid PRO |

These are the best blades I have ever hit. The MP-14's are the only other iron i would ever consider putting in my bag. You should really try them if you want a good iron. |

The clubs are beautiful! i would not trade them for anything else the have the best sound and feel of any clubs i have ever hit in my entire life. If you want blade irons at a reasonable price i would say these are a must buy. the only minor problem is the paint flakes off but is easily repaired.
