Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

This is my second review and all I can say is BOO YEH!!!! These clubs get better and better every time I step on to the golf course. I have hit more great shots with these irons in 9 months than I have done in my life.
I LOVE THESE CLUBS!
They are worth the money no matter how much you pay for them.

Model Reviewed: Hogan Apex Plus (graphite shaft 4)

If you love golf and have a decent game, you'll want the satisfaction of hitting great shots. I was playing with knockoffs for 5 years, only broke 80 four times. With the Apex Plus, I've already broken 80 after 2 rounds. I've hit shots with these clubs I could not fathom with my old set. They cost money but are well worth the investment. A properly hit shot results in a straight and long trajectory. I probably hit 10 to 20 yards farther with each iron and find no loss of control with the graphite, in fact I prefered this light shaft which suits my slow swing speed. You know when you've hit a perfect shot, and bad shots feel heavy but still fly out there. They say Hogan's are not forgiving, maybe with the older blade, the Apex Plus is forgiving and allows you to fine tune your swing so you can dial into the sweet spot. I am a feel player and this kind of amazing feeback is so useful. With cast iron sticks, every shot feels the same, good or bad. Apex Plus are the nicest clubs I've ever owned performance wise and aesthetically, very nice to look at. I highly recommend to any golfer looking for perfection. Can't wait to get out there this weekend!

I switched from Titleist DCI Oversized clubs. The Hogan's feel very soft when struck well, very responsive. Distance seems good, ball flight very consistant, and very accurate as well. Only dilema was whether to get the stock shaft or the rifle, from what I read the stock shaft is very good.

I had been playing with a set of mizuno cast iron clubs before I bought these and suddenly found myself playing a whole different ball game. These have opened up facets of the game I only had an inkling of with cast iron clubs. Paired with a smooth stroke, these irons feel rich off the tee and the fairway.
From the short stuff, I can line up and hit ball after ball right ontop of one another. They're as accurate as can be.
Their solid heads tear through the rough and keep their line in all but the longest grass.
Around the greens they're sensitive and ultimately playable.
Knockdowns, draws, fades are all a breeze.
These play to the strengths of a solid player, but offer little in the way of forgiveness to those not playing their 'A' game.

I'd been playing with Hogan Apex Blades/Redlines for the last 14 years, but admittedly not that much golf the last 3-4 years. The blades were great when I had the luxury of playing practically everyday but don't have the consistency anymore. Decided I needed a club that was just a little more forgiving, but yet responsive and offering feedback.

The Apex Plus offers all of these qualities. My biggest quandary was selecting a shaft. I was back and forth between the graphite and tour flighted 5.5. Hitting the ball high has never been a problem for me, including my long irons. In fact the lower lofts was a reason I bought these irons. I chose the graphite because I do get considerably more distance but still have the feel & control. The lighter shaft is ultimately what I was looking for. The more I play with these irons the more refined the feel & control gets with the graphite. I know graphite and a forged clubhead isn't the perfect match, but this is about as good as it gets, which is quite good. I'm a strong long iron player and don't find too much sacrifice or loss of distance with the progressive offset in the longer irons. I'm still flying the ball 210-220 yrds with the 2 iron. Don't let the word offset confuse you. It's not noticable. I had visions of some ugly Calloway offset.

Like everyone else, the feel is buttery. They're definitely sweet. Look great in the bag and feel very confident at address. I can't speak for everyone else, but this is definitely a good club for the above average player. I don't necessarily find the club excessively forgiving. If you don't have a good swing to begin with the ball isn't going to go where you wish. I've made a few bad swings since and I've paid for it. Hitting these things at the golf range is one thing, but when you finally get them out on the course, what a great feeling it is.

Everyone who said that these irons are pure and have a soft buttery feel are on the money. I have always had cast irons and now I know what I have been missing. My iron game has improved as I now know when I am hitting the ball off center I get "Feel Feedback" that cast irons dont have. I am amazed at how a squared clubface toe hit with these clubs still goes straight with only a loss in distance, however I know right away I didn't hit the sweet spot and can then work on adjusting my swing

Excellent clubs, distance a little shorter than my X12s.But the Hogans are more accurate and control ability. And these irons look great too. these will be around years to come. Not like other cast clubs which golf companies change a new model every year.

I think these irons are the best irons for the golfer who plays some hard core golf. They let you shape shots and really attack the pin.

Although I never thought I'd like Hogan irons, I love these sticks. Perfect height, straight as an arrow, plenty of distance and the real key...consistency. Shot after shot right on the money. Great feel even with graphite shafts. Intentional hook/slice shots work fine. Mis-hits traveled very good distances. Even very poorly struck balls went in the general direction with good distance. Never a hint of the dreaded "shank" problem mentioned here in previous reviews.

Of course you have tremendous confidence standing over these irons because they truly are beautifully crafted pieces of art. The first flush shot you hit will have you wanting more and more...and these clubs provide it! You can hit shot after shot straight, long, and right on the money. Regardless of your handicap, just try these irons. You won't be disappointed. The only other club I have found that compares well is the new TaylorMade 300 forged.

Although these comments relate to the graphite version, I have also hit the steel shafts with similar results. I've played graphites for 15 years and am biased toward them, but enjoyed the steel shafts as well. You won't find a more aesthetically pleasing club anywhere.

I demoed the five iron today and I totally fell in love with these irons. I compared the feel of the Apex Plus to a Maxfli Revolution, and there was not comparison. My set is on the way!
