Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

I won these Hogan Apex Plus irons in a raffle. Best raffle ticket I ever bought! The clubs are beautiful to look and and to play. They are quite long -- about 1/2 to 1 club longer than my Mizuno Pros. They are quite forgiving -- you can still hit bad shots of course but slightly off-centre shots don't lose much. They are a lot more forgiving than the Mizunos. They allow you to work the ball nicely -- low burners, high fades, draws, etc all hit with ease. I love the stock shafts (I have the flex 4 shafts). My only complaint with these clubs is the stock grip -- I would have preferred a tour pride or velvet grip. I also here they are pricey (not for me :-)), but you will get what you pay for, namely a wonderful golf club.

These irons are top notch. Sweet spot hits are like a knife through butter. Very good workability. Very good at getting out of deep rough.

Off-center hits are penalized. Thin shots are on line with minimal distance loss (you know it was thin - good feedback). Mizuno MP-33 is better for better players, I liked the small amount of forgiveness in these blades

Clubs are standard length, 1 degree upright with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts (a must in place of hogan stiff).

The brother of a friend of mine won a set of Apex Plus at a tournament. He took the 8 iron to the range and shanked 10 straight.Being the opportunist I am i made him an offer and he accepted $400. Pretty good deal for me. I figured i would try em but i was playing MP-14's at the time and didnt think i would find a club that felt softer than the Mizuno's. Well i sold my MP-14's on ebay after a round with the Hogans!!! I normally play a stiff shaft but these have the Apex 3 shaft and surprisingly the combo of forged with a softer shaft equals un matched feel. I have always been a low ball hitter but have found the perfect trajectory with these ,even with the long irons. You owe to yourself to test drive these. AWESOME!!!

First of all, I am very particular when choosing a club that fits my game. I pretty much demoed every club out there today. These Hogan Apex Plus suited my game to a TEE. Phenomenal feed back and workability. Well weighted for a true feel of the entire club. I chose the 4 Apex shaft and have been impressed with my ball striking ability.

I have played Ping irons for 16 years.
I've always been very reluctant to try
forged clubs. After hitting the apex plus irons, I fell in love!!! Fellows, smooth these babies and you'll see what I mean. Unbelievable feel, great distance control, and a "dial in" shot pattern make these irons the best in golf...period. Demo these before you buy anything else. Kudos to Ben Hogan/Spalding.

Well I am confused on where hogan was goin here with these irons. They are a forged blade with offset it makes no sense and makes the club kind of nasty lookin I hit them well but i cant work the ball due to the offset...go with the ta3ff they are soft bladish with some of a cavity with no offset.

These are without a doubt one of the best looking set of irons on the market today. Definitely a player's club - workable with fantastic feedback. Not recommended for beginners/high handicappers as these irons are not as forgiving as some other forged or cast game-improvement irons. Mid-low handicappers will appreciate the quality and feel of these irons. Amazingly soft at impact but will not punish you for a bad hit/swing like a full blade and knock your teeth out if you happen to wander off the sweet spot. If you're willing to put in the effort and groove your swing with these irons, they simply cannot be beat.

Outstanding club! I finally traded in my Ping Eye2's after 10 years and can safely say I don't regret it one bit. These clubs feel soooo smooth when you strike the ball. With out changing anything in my swing, I am gettin at least 10 yards more distance than my Ping's. Great control as well. Easily the best looking club out there today. Gotta try them!

These clubs are great. Tried just about every club out there but decided that to improve I needed more feedback but not as much as I had been getting from my older Hogan Apex and not as little as from a set of Palmer PHDTi I have been using for the past five years. Haven't noticed any more of a shanking problem than before - but this mostly happens with short irons and seems just as likely with my Cleveland wedges as it does with the short "plus" irons. Swing weights and balance are great and I've noticed that you simply do not need do much more than swing smoothly and evenly - relax and let these clubs take care of the rest. Accuracy? It's as good as it gets... I had these clubs custom fit and ended up with a slightly longer regular apex shaft which were also tipped. My 44" Driver speed averages about 109 - but don't need any of this speed with these shafts - slow down and watch your 3 iron travel 210 yds. with ease. Short er irons are not as long as some sets and the long iron are a bit longer. My guess is that Hogan is more exacting with lofts than some manufacturers ... I still need to sort these distances on the range.... but last week I hit three pins dead on with mid-irons! The fact that they're the best looking clubs on the market gives a bit of mental edge as well. These are great clubs and if you play with a handicap from 5-15 - I'd suggest you get to your pro shop and buy a custom fit set. They also arrived in 6 days and then sent a hat when I returned the warranty card!
