Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

I just bought these at Roger Dunn and they are gorgeous. I looked at Ebay and I can tell you guys thinking about these clubs " Don't buy on Ebay from anyone asking more than $500". You can get them new from Roger Dunn for $599 with a 90 day good as cash return policy to trade for any other club in the store, if you live in CA that is. Anyway, they are just as long as my Ping I3's were and almost as forgiving. They are more consistent in regards to yardage and do feel sweet when hit dead center and surprisingly don't punish your hands any more than the I3's did on heel and toe shots. I hit the Mizuno 33's and EZ comps as well as the Taylormade 300 and the Cleveland tours and the Macgregor PCB and I believe the PMB, and on and on. Basically every relatively new Forged club there is in the store. They all felt about the same when struck sweet, and since I was only hitting into a mat I really couldn't tell you about distances. What I can say is that for the money and the fact that the Apex Plus in my opinion is the most gorgeous looking club on the market today, the choice was easy. And I am glad I made that choice after a few rounds on the driving range. Still haven't hit them on a course yet, but I believe I will be rapidly reaching the low 80's now. It never hurts to buy the class of the field.

I got into golf I bought a cheap set of knock offs with grafite shafts knew right away to invest in a better club. I got a set of taylormade lcg very heacy club mishits you would pay in a very bad shot ...played with them for almost one year and decided to invest in maybe a set of blades ..I have shot par on a number of 3 par courses and I hit my irons ok..so I decided to get different equipment to see what the so call" feed back is "and IN PLAYING THE FIRSTTIME OUT..I knew what it was to have a great feel in hitting the golf ball....on a scale of one to ten I would rate hogan apex plus a 9 or close to perfect club.....distance are more consistant and toe hits you will feel it.worthwhile investment if you play every day....

These irons are great. If you hit it solid, they give you the buttery feel. Much better than the mizuno comp easz. But they are heavier than regular irons coz of the extra lengh.

First of all I must admit that these are beautiful clubs, the finish and look at address are second to none. The 926's feel harsh, X-12's have no real feeling (especially around the greens), and the Hogans have a feel only a forged club can give. The feeling on a pure shot is indescribable!!
Here are my findings Vs. the 926/X-12's
Distance - 1/2 club shorter than my X-12's, even with 962's
Accurracy - The Hogans are deadly accurate as are the 962's, X-12's are Ok.
Feel - Any forged club will win here hands down. 926's feel a little hard and the X-12's don't provide much feedback.
Forgiveness - X-12's win here with there battleship size heads. Apex Plus and 962's aren't bad but bad swings. will hurt you.
Overall winner - Tie!! These are all good clubs. In my findings, it's not the irons that make the difference, it's a combo of all your clubs. To shoot in the 70's you have to drive, pitch, chip, and putt well!!!! So go out and practice to get the full potential out of you clubs!! Mine happen to be Ben Hogan Apex Plus.
Fairways and greens,
Ciao!!!

As an update to my review of 5/21, I have regained any lost distance and remain highly satisfied with these clubs. I can think of nothing negative to say about them. They remain a pleasure to hit. I have no disadvantage as compared to my prior "game improvement clubs," to the contrary these have probably improved my game.

Only tried the 8 iron on the range. I hit my 8 eight iron 135 but was dropping the ball all around the 150 flag. The club felt perfectly balanced and so easy to swing. Im looking for a used set of these clubs.

very forgiving for a near blade. When you strike the ball on the sweet spot you don't even feel anything. Just as if the ball melts into the clubface.

I got tired of playing hacker clubs flying a wedge over the green from 150. So I went back to the feel clubs. These set up like blades, play like a cavity and feel like no other. If you shoot 90 or above stick with your Callaways.

After reading all the reviews I could find, I decided to buy a set. I ball stricking is average. This model is awesome. From the moment they arrived I liked the looks and the feel. I was worried about hitting a blade like set but its all over now after hitting the Apex plus. I did loose some distance but I gained a lot of accuracy. They are very light in weight and very easy to hit. I agree with others that many high handicappers will hit this easily. I think I will leave my X-14 at home. By the way I selected the apex 3 shafts and they worked fine. Would highly recomend these irons even if the price is high, they are worth it
