Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! These clubs have to be the best out there. The playability and control with clubs is unbelievable. If you are interested in moving from game improvement irons, look no further. They are softer than the Pro II's, and really long. The only problem is that you will probably have to add the F wedge to your bag, if you are a long hitter. Knocks the socks off the Firesole Tour and the Pings. I would suggest these for anybody who is in the low teens and better handicap range. If you want to get down to really low numbers - this is the way to go.

I picked these over the new Titleist irons and think I made the right choice. Needed a few rounds to get used to the extra distance compared to my old Muirfield blades, but once adjusted I thought they were great. I played my last irons for 17 years and I think I will play these Hogans for another 17. Got my first hole in one with them after over 30 years of trying. I think there are worth a try for anyone who shoots under 85.

I was brought up playing forged clubs. Got down to five handicap and then watched as it went up again. Thought that I should try cast perimeter weighted clubs for "game improvement" (a set of Hogan GCDs). What a mistake! How can anyone think they are playing golf if they hit rocks with cast clubs!
Tested new forged clubs and settled on the wonderfully responsive and surprisingly forgiving Hogan Apex Plus. The feel they give is tremendous. And they look nice too.

As one other reviewer said "I am reborn". It doesn't feel like religion, but I have that feeling too.

I've played with everything from the old McGregor blades to the original DCI-B's (my last set) - and tested nearly everything on the market- the Apex blade and Apex Plus are absolutely the most beautiful, solid clubs I've ever hit. Go for the blades if you're a scratch, I opted for the plus for a little more forgivness - the difference in feel between the plus and the blade is minimal compared to the additional forgiveness in the plus. Not for high handicapers, but if you are less than a 10, there is NOTHING sweeter than Hogan irons - got them off eBay for under $500 brand new......only drawback, the standard grips seem a bit smaller than average.

I'm a high 70's/low 80's golfer who was looking for better feel in my irons. Played the Titleist DCI's before. Got the Apex Plus irons this spring and they are fantastic. Probably played about 30 rounds with them. Great feel, perfect ball flight and excellent distance. Mis-hits do not feel any worse than the DCI's, but do fly 5-10 yds shorter. My ball striking and scoring have improved since I switched to the Apex Plus irons.

I had spent several months looking for clubs that would give me greater control and feel. It was a tough choice but I went for the BH A+. After, as expected a "getting acquainted" period the clubs allowed to play better. I feel I can now "strike" the ball as opposed to hitting/slapping it. I really enjoy playing and practicing with these clubs. My shafts are 1+ Dynamic Gold S300. Initially at one shop they steered me towardsevery club but these. They would not recommend them for my level. I disagree. I was right right I have come very close to breaking into the 80s. While the clubs may not be for everybody they are definitely worth a try. these clubs have a lot of spirit

Wow! You want pure enjoyment and the true feeling of hitting a shot flush? Then these are the clubs for you! I have about a solid month to month and a half of testing in already. I tried many different clubs over a couple months time. The new Armour Evo's (ball flight straight up in the air; way too high), a couple different Taylor's (heads seemed way too heavy on all models they offered, always lagging club behind me), Titleist 962 and 981 (nice swinging and feeling club, but a very vague contact; when mis-hit, you couldn't tell where), Ping I3's (nice strong trajectory, but they felt like I was hitting my beginner's set; very dull). Now the Hogan's... WHOA! You hit a bad shot you know it! But that's good! Makes you WANT to improve your swing! Which is the whole idea. If you practice as often as possible, don't buy something that's going to "mask" your inconsistencies. Buy something that will force you to swing better. Unbelievable feel when making short pitches and chip shots too. Had to re-adjust my chipping stroke beause these spin the ball and check-up so well. Get all the wedges if you can too. Pitching down through lob. Lob wedge has become my short game's best friend. Rock solid clubs! Only complaint is time it took to receive after ordering. I ordered two weeks before 4th of July, and didn't receive until 2nd week of August! JEEZ! I realize everybody and his brother are ordering these, but this is ridiculous! C'mon Hogan! Hire some more help for god's sake! Expensive, but wouldn't trade them for the world!

Made a dumb move and bought a set of graphite cast irons. Promptly decided to return to forged steel and tried everything. Settled on the Apex Plus irons. Great feel; good distance; and great directional control. Pitching and chipping control around the green is excellent. These may be my last set of irons. Recommend them for anyone who hits the ball on the center of the club face.

Customer Service

Excellent for original owner. They have been very responsive to my requests.
