Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

I picked up a used set of Hogan Apex Plus 3-E yesterday. The irons look awesome. They have great feel for long shots as well as chips around the greens. Not as forgiving as my X-14''s. But, balls hit on the sweetspot feel sweet! These irons are great for a low to mid handicapper. Provide feedback on miss hits and feel great on well struck shots. Are they "in the bag"? Oh YEAH!!!!

In a word: exquisite. I bought the clubs yesterday and finally had the opportunity to get out to the range. I shanked about the first 25...(There was a minor adjustment period). Then I told myself, "Self, let the clubs do the work," and worked they did! With a nice easy swing, the ball sails off the club face. Pure hits give that "ringing in the loins" feeling. "So I got that going for me." None the less, I love these clubs! They''re beautiful and a joy to hit.

Great club. Mid to low cappers should definetely think about purchasing these clubs. Superior distance, nice bite with short sticks, what else could you ask for?

Great clubs. I previously owned a set of Hogan Edge's but decided to put them away and try a new club. These clubs have great feel, even with off center hits. They appear to be about a half inch longer than the Edges, but are definitely lighter than the Mizuno TZOIDs and Titleist 990 and Titleist 981s. Buy them.

Quite simply, the best irons I have ever hit/owned!! The confidence is there to shoot at the pins now, not just the greens!!! If you hit a 7 iron 150 then 150 is what you get with these, so accurate, unlike previous "cast" clubs, 7 iron goes between 140 to 180 with no swing change!! These deliver every time. Well done Hogan!!

Having read previous reviews I was sceptical as to the reality of "buttery soft" feel. In fact, this is the perfect way to describe this iron. I have not hit any club-blades included-that give such a feel. The flight of the ball is powerful. This club hits the ball through the air, not up into it. My set have the Apex 3 shafts (previously used DGR400 Callaway Firm and Rifle 5.5), they seem as good as any. Another plus point regarding this iron is forgiveness. I have found them to be more forgiving than the shallow cavity would suggest, about as forgiving as Titleist 962's. I would say an average 12 handicapper (who can perhaps strike the ball better than he can putt) would find these irons forgiving enough. My only long-term concern is how robust these irons will be.

These are the purest irons ever! I had 6.0 rifle shafts put in them, which I felt were a little stiff at first, but after a while, they turned out to be perfect. Quite forgiving for an iron that feels so awesome when struck well. I recommend this iron to anyone that takes golf seriously! Well done Ben Hogan and the team!

Customer Service

They built my set from scratch (rifle shaft, cord grips) and sent them within 7 days.
