Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

Just ordered my Apex Pluses after testing against Callaways X-14 Pro, Ping i3 Blade and Cleveland TA1 and TA3. Chose the Apex''s after deciding that I just got a better feel for the shot each time at address. Very long and can be worked both ways. What more do you want. Chose Rifle 5.o''s, but it was very close thing as the Apex 3''s would also have done a great job. Rifles had a slightly stiffer and heavier feel which I think may get better for me as I go along. I think the Rifles were generating a bit more spin. Can''t wait for delivery.

I am a left handed golfer and have been looking at a number of different golf sets for a few years now. I''ve been playing golf since I was 10 years old and I''m twenty four now. I''ve always loved the look of the classic blade style but but didn''t really want a blade iron but when these irons came out I knew these were the irons to have. Less forgiving than the hogan edge but more forgiving than the apex. Great feel and I can really work the ball from left to right. Around the green I''ve notice that the bump and run shot are extremely more accurate on average than my old irons. I was shoting at the pin all day today and ended up with a 2 under 70. I love them!!

I played the Apex Plus for a year. I woould get an occasional shank just like other reviewers had written. I never had trouble with the shanks before. I gave them up and went with the Mizuno Comp EZ''s. The shanks disappeared. Also, I hit both 4 irons about 100 times apiece and was CONSISTANTLY getting 10-15 yards more with the Mizuno Comp EZ''s. The Apex Plus are overrated!

I learned how to play the game using forged clubs a long time ago. I decided to give them a try again, looking for some sweetness, feedback and "feel" in my shots, rather than the usual robotic sweeping no-feel swings of my cavity back irons. I am not disappointed. In fact, my game has taken on a new life. These irons are sweet and accurate. The trajectory is lower - it''s a pretty thing to see, and such shots provide more control. You can subtly work shots, and become a hitter or ballstriker instead of a swing machine. Top ratings in my book...plus they''re great looking and that inspires confidence. Even if you shoot bogey golf (45/45), these clubs can be good for you.

Beautiful clubs, but with some peculiarities. I’m searching for replacements for my LH Titleist Tour Model blades. I was able to hit the Apex Plus 5 iron at a local shop, a rarity to be able to test any left handed clubs these days other than Callaway and Ping. My impressions are that the clubs'' swingweight is too low, perhaps D0. My current set is D5. Also, more troubling (I could always add lead tape to bring the swingweight up), is the relatively thick top line. That alone takes these clubs out of consideration for me. These may well be great clubs for many, but does not match up with my criteria.

A truly great set of clubs. Physical appearance is really artistic. The polished heads and the modern yet classic shape gives me pride to own this set of clubs. Performance is breathtaking, and they deliver as they imply by their looks. The feeling of a well-struck shot is simply exquisite and ball flight gives no surprises. I can be deadly accurate with these clubs. I don''t know why I didn''t switch to forged clubs earlier! These clubs are not for the high handicapper. Mis-hits give immediate feedback and can be harsh. I have not exprienced the shanks as experienced by some users, but I can imagine that a swingplane not in the slot could easily result in this. However, mid-handicappers could easily enjoy and improve their game. A hole-in-one for the people at Ben Hogan!

The sexiest irons I''ve ever played. They are soft and squishy. I have Dynmaic Gold X100 shafts in the 3-E. These irons will make your pants tight just looking down at them. They make all other clubs feel like Toski''s. No comparison at all. If Ben Hogan were still playing golf, he would like these, I think.

Upgraded from VERY forgiving Titleist DCI Oversize + irons. I bought these expecting a long learning curve after using oversized irons for years. From the start I hit these just as well. It''s been a month now and my irons are more accurate than they have ever been. The forged head gives great feedback on all shots and a very sweet sensation on well struck ones particularly. Beautiful design as well. Mr. Hogan would have been proud of these.

DOESN''T MATTER WHAT YOU PAID....these are the best...i shanked some 9 iron shots first month, because I wasn''t transferring my weight properly and probably moving my head...got these in april, i''m now in low eighties consistently, NO SHANKS...these are heaven, I can''t believe how heavy they are, helped me get on plane and develop balance and consistency....hope everyone doesn''t get these....all my buddies are in awe of my new game and they still haven''t bought them yet...good for me and my wallet...i''m hitting shots so pure it''s sick...
