Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

Ben Hogan Apex Plus Irons

DESCRIPTION

From Ben Hogan Golf: "When Ben Hogan introduced the first forged, perimeter-weighted irons in 1989, he built the club some said, "couldn't be made." The "impossible" combination of perimeter-weighted forgiveness and forged feel. This experience, technology and innovation shapes the Ben Hogan Apex Plus. Many golfers have aspired to play a Ben Hogan Apex. Now, the perimeter-weighted Apex Plus provides an appreciably larger sweet spot across the face of the club, from heel to toe. Off-center hits will go longer, be more accurate and just happen to "feel" a lot better, too."

if you have a pretty decent golf swing, you should try these sticks.i recently bought a set of tm 320s. they are good clubs, much better than my ping isi that i had ben playing.i met a guy on the course that had the hogans, he said he couldn''t hit them. i tried them and it was love at first feel. he priced them low so i took em. i shot my low round of the year (75) the first time out. they are very hittable, even mis-hits don''t suffer much. go get you some, quick!

I have always been told to stay away from bladelike clubs. But after a couple of houndreds of balls on the range and a handfull of rounds on the course, I have to say that I am breathtaken. I never thought that a impact could feel so right. They are like butter and gives me confidence at adress. I have played the x-14 for a year, so I experience that a fade comes to play at the long irons with the apex''s. But I believe that I can work it out in a month or two. All I can say is that try these clubs, hit a couple of houndreds of balls and you are sold.

In early February of 2002, I proudly purchased a set of Ben Hogan Apex Plus (2 Iron to PW with 5.5 Frequency Rifle Shaft and Golf Pride Velvet Full Cord Grips) for $685.00 (CDN). What a steal! From the first moment I set eyes on these irons, it was love at first sight. The beautiful design, craftsmanship and shine of these forged irons just made me want to baby these babies. My wife even once told my mother-in-law that I spend more time fondling the clubs than her! Not true, I provide equal fondling to both her and the clubs! I do sense a jealous woman, don''t you? Since it is cold and snowy up here in February, I''ve been grooving my swing in my basement at home. On three occasions this winter, I have had the opportunity to hit these irons at a golf dome on the West Island in nearby Montreal. During these ball striking sessions, I just can''t believe the feel of these irons. All I can say is "WOW"! The feedback from these irons, when struck just right allow me to repeat and emulate that swing over and over. I truly believe that these irons will be the solution to more overall consistent play for me this year. At this point, I''m just so excited for my first round of the season. And remember the golden rule...don''t let a woman come between you and your golf game.

I haven''t actually bought a set although i am going to probably next week. I hit a set of them and wow. That is all i have to say about them. When you hit them they speak for themselves. I play all of the time and i am not strong enough yet for blades to make a difference. So go buy these sweet clubs. They pay for themselves!!!!

I read all the reviews posted here and decided to go out and try a set. Everyone is right on in regards to the pure feeling which occurs when striking the sweet spot. No one bothered to mention the TERRIBLE performance which occurs on off-center contact(towards the toe). I realize that you sacrifice forgiveness when going from a cast to forged club, but the results I obtained on slightly off center hits was terrible. I shoot in the mid 80''s and therefore don''t hit the sweet spot everytime. I''ll definitely put these in the closet until I do.

I had been looking for a new set of irons for, oh, about the last year or so. I am a decent golfer and have been floating between a 6 and 8 handicapp for the last couple of years. I bought a set of Goldwin ADVP Tour irons about 3 years ago, and I still like them, but I thought it was time for a change. I wanted something "blade like" but, since I don''t play as much golf as I used to, I wanted to find something that had a bit of forgiveness too. I went to several golf shops, hit many a ball into the nets, with quite a few different clubs. I hit the Precept Forged, Tour Select, Armour V-31''s, the new Titleist iron, and the HAP ''s(Hogan Apex Plus''s), side-by-side. While all of the above mentioned irons are excellent clubs, I kept coming back to the HAP''s, because they are so sweet feeling and are so easy swinging. I really wanted to wait until spring, so I could get out to the range and hit a few irons out there, and then I could decide. But recently I was surfing the net and found the HAP''s for $399 for the 3-PW, with the number 4 shaft, at GolfwebB.com. I thought I wasn''t gonna be able to beat that price anywhere, so I bought them. I recently had my first chance to hit them out at the range and, boy, are they sweet. The trajectory is a bit lower than my Goldwin''s, but they feel so much better, it is unbelieveable. As mentioned here sever times, when you "pure" one, it''s like butta. On top of that, they seem as forgiving, if not more forgiving than my Goldwin''s. Finally, they have to be the nicest looking irons made today. I have to say Hogan/Spaulding have hit a "home run" with these sticks. They are a forged iron that just about anybody can play. Not too long ago, if you wanted a forged club, you had to spend $800 and you had better hit them dead-center, or you''d pay for it. It doesn''t seem the case with these irons. I can have a miss-hit, and you don''t lose much as far as distance/accuracy. These clubs seem just plain sweet and, for $399, you just can''t beat them. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon so I can submit a review of how they performed on the course. I am really looking forward to playing a round with these babies!

I bought my Hogans last summer and have played about 50+ rounds with them. They''re everything I hoped they would be. I tried about a dozen different irons before I purchased - Ping i3''s, different Mizunos, Titleists, Cleveland TA models, etc. They''re all nice clubs, but the Hogans have the best feel out there. Like butta'', baby! Hit one on the sweet spot and you KNOW what a really good golf shot feels like. As others have said, I also found that the ball flight is a little lower and more penetrating than other irons of equal loft - like my old TA3''s. I consistently hit my 5 iron 5-10 yards farther than my old set - with that soft/quality feel. Can''t beat it. These clubs have made me a believer in forged, versus cast. Off-center hits always go farther/straighter than I think they will. For feel, performance, overall quality, and value - pick a better club! Not to mention their great looks. These irons are definitely helping to bring my game up to the next level, and I consider this an investment that I can take pride in for years to come. I''m trying to think of something negative to say about them, but I really can''t. I will say that the softer forged steel tends to get dinged up easier than cast, so you''ll probably need to spend a few extra $ on some iron-covers to protect these good-looking clubs. My brother, who usually doesn''t heed the advice of his older/wiser sibling, recently bought a set of HAPs after giving mine a try and seeing the quality of these irons.
