SuperSteel #3,#5.
I wanted to get closer to the green on my second shot. Now I'm putting for my third on those par 4's. The #3 with R-80 Rifle shaft is great for tight fairways off the tee, but, for me, its too low off the grass. The #5 with R-80 Rifle, easy 190 yds and straight off the fairway. So I got what I wanted. They sound great too. For my swing, the rifle shaft proved to be consistently straight, where the bubbleshaft in R-80 caused me to hit a fade. You have to try for yourself. I have been a Callaway man for as long as I've played golf but I took a chance on the SuperSteel. I love this club. It feels and sounds different than the Callaways but it is a very solid club that is extremely forgiving. When I hit the sweet spot, this club is straight and long. If I don't hit it perfectly, I lose a little distance but the ball doesn't get away very much. Soon, I will be replacing my Steelhead Plus with another Supersteel. SuperSteel 3 Wood
I am a total club junkie. I have hit just about everything. The SuperSteel 3 Wood is the best 3 wood off the tee I have hit. I was looking for that confidence club on those tight par 4's where you need to be able to step up, take a nice smooth swing and know that it's going to be in the fairway. The SuperSteel 3 wood is the best I have found for job. After one practice session I had so much confidence with it that I was taking a full swing and tagging the ball in the range of 250 yards, only about 20 to 25 yards shorter than my driver. Off the tee I love this club, but from the fairway I will continue to opt for my Orlimars. I have found no other club, including the new Orlimar Plus series that comes close to matching the Orlimar Trimetal from the fairway, but that's another review. The SuperSteel does a fine job off the carpet and if I wasn't so enamored with the Orlimars I would be more than happy with the performance. I found from both off the tee and from the fairway I could easily work the ball with either a nice draw or a high fade. The SuperSteel is a great stick and you can find some great prices on eBay where I got mine brand new for $175. Taylor Made Supersteel 3 Wood
Great Club. It had an excellent feeling of power at impact from a suprisingly explosive clubface. The very first time I hit this club I hit it long and accurately. I don't know how they did it but it worked for me. Also, I have never found a wood that is easier to hit off the ground. Best fairway wood I have ever hit. Customer Service Didn't need any. Great club. I thought it to be a bit pricy, but still bought it. By the way, for all you Callaway lovers, both Taylor Made and Callaway club heads are made in the same factory in Mexico (Hitchner) so the process to make one is the same to make the other! Taylor Made Supersteel
The driver has always been the weakest part of my game. Often I'll substitute my GBB 3 wood off the tee. I have found myself always falling for the latest club only to find that it was no better than the one I substituted it for. Well, since I finally got sick of losing money by buying drivers and then trading them back in, I decided to do some extensive testing. I hit callaways, mizunos, pings, taylor mades, etc and fell in love with the supersteel (like it much better than the firesole). The head siza is perfect and the club is very accurate. For me I chose the 10.5 degree with the R-80 bubble shaft. The folks in the shop tried steering me toward the S-90 since my swing speed is about 95-96 mph, but I just did not hit the S-90 as well as the R-80 (possibly the location in the swing where I unload). Anyhow, it's a great driver. Lessoned learned also, try before you buy and get what feels right and works for you. If you have a 100 mph swing and hit the regular shaft better than the stiff, use the regular (it took me a while to get this through my head). Also, got a great price on the driver from gball.com. With the new customer discount it cost $198 with free shipping. Similar Products Used: Damn near all of them! |

Taylor Made Supersteel
I just started playing about a year ago and decided to get rid of my "let's-see-if-I-like-the-game" set of clubs. I stepped up to the TM LCG Burners and also picked up the TM Supersteel 3 Wood (along with the Nubbins B7). AWESOME!! I'm not a real consistent hitter with the woods yet, but I found this club to be very forgiving. I was hitting at the range and 70% of my shots were down the middle where I wanted them to go. I've never, EVER hit shots this good before! I hit a couple other clubs at GolfSmith in the "simulation" nets and didn't get the same feel or confidence that I had with this club. I found this club at Polar Golf in San Diego for $219, but I'm boycotting them now...GolfSmith does price matching though, as do some other places. I also saw it on-line for the same price, but can't remember where (sorry). Similar Products Used: Orlimar TriMetal, Cleveland Quadpro |

It's a great club with a great feel. It has a larger sweet spot so there is less margin for error. The bottom is flat so that the club lies flat on the ground. It is just an all around great club. |

9.5 degree S-90 shaft Taylor Made Supersteel
First of all, thank god Taylor Made did not paint this club that gaudy orange color. (see Firesole woods) In fact, this club is beautiful. I have been playing a Titleist 975D and this is like a dream to hit in comparison. Where the 975D had to be "Nutted" everytime to get a decent shot, the Supersteel only requires contact to send the ball screaming down the fairway. The clubhead resembles the Mizuno woods line in many aspects. Particularly from overhead. This club is easy to align and extremely forgiving. I could work the ball both ways and hit it high and low when I wanted to. It has been awhile since I split the fairway with consistency (see Titleist 975D) so this club gets huge marks for doing that. The shaft offered good feedback and is a little on the short side 44, which favors me since I like to hit the ball as opposed to swing through it. The grip is a tour velvet. While thin, it's easy on the hands. The only negative and this is a small one, is the sound at impact. It sounds like a wood block. I highly recommend this club to anyone looking to bash the ball down the middle of the fairway. Good looks and forgiving, an unbeatable combination. Oh yeah, it's only $229 US. Good going Taylor Made. Similar Products Used: Great Big Bertha, Titleist 975D, Steelhead, Ti Bubble 2, McHenry Metals, Firesole, Ping. |
