I just recently bought the wilson deep red driver and found that not only was it giving me great distance off the tee but it is nearly impossible to mis hit, This club gave me the confidence to hit where i otherwise would'nt at risk of hooking. I found that i could consisently hit 200 meters dead straight without the need to speed up my relativly slow swing speed, however it is very easy and safe to add a little extra speed on those par 5's without much risk at all.

I was using the killer whale and found that it was fairly hard to hit it perfectly straight like the deep red.

Bought the Driver from an internet classified from a guy who didn't think it is long enough off the tee. I had wanted one but was waiting for such an offer. Now I generally am fearless off the tee and the distance is slightly better than the 3 other drivers that are now in the closet collecting dust. For my slow swing speed this driver is ideal and I can keep up with my 'longer 'mates now. Would recommend anyone who stands over the tee wondering what happens next !!!

If you want to take a few strokes off.. then this is the club. I wandered around pro shops all over australia heading out to the practice range with a variety of drivers. I tried melon sized things, things that were two inches high ant the face, things that had grooves all over the place and every colour you can imagine. Then I picked up the deep red with stiff shaft... not my usual shaft stiffness but the only one in the shop. 20 minutes later I had it in the bag. The best feature is not its superb length nor its consistency but more that your bad shots are so much better. You can litterally only hit half the ball an it will still go 200m (220yds). Overall it is a well made club with a very underated shaft. It took about 2 strokes off my handicap straight away and I like then so much I now have the 3 and 5 wodds in the bag too! I know they have gone up in price with the bigger heads, which I havn't tried, but they are still cheaper than the comparible models from other club makers.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red 425 Driver

Wilson 10.5 degree Deep Red 425 with stiff fat shaft No doubt about it, the club looks great. And it performs great too. I could have bought a driver the pro's play (Titleist, Nike, TaylorMade), but let's face it, my game is not worthy. I don't want a club that I can work left or right. I don't want a club that will let me know if I miss hit it. I don't play often enough, or well enough, to allow me to (publicly) dream of playing on the senior tour if only I had the right driver. My criteria for a new driver was for it to be forgiving with consistently good distance. I wanted to be able to pull the driver out of my bag when I have not picked up a club in 3 weeks and still be able to hit the ball over 220 yards down the middle of the fairway. I have a 15 handicap index and shoot in the low 80's when playing often, and in the low 90's when I'm not. My swing speed is around 100mph and I have a tendency to hook my drives. The ball comes off this driver fast and just goes and goes. I am now consistently hitting 240 yards in the air rolling to 250-260. A few even carry 260. Control is great and the direction of the shot seems to be entirely due to my alignment and ball position at address. Perhaps some people want more distance, but I am very, very happy to consistently hit my drives 250 in the fairway. I find the large head on the Deep Red 425 gives me the confidence I need to swing freely without fear of mis-hits. And that is helping my distance too. Even mis-hits, where I hit the ball towards the toe and almost miss the ball entirely, still travel 230 down the middle. That, my friends, is forgiveness.

I have used this club for one year now. I have had been told im like a robot. i just keep hitting striaght. I have made many better golfers nervous on the tee box. i have seen many longer drives curve off the fairway. if thats what u like, don't buy the deep red. I like to take an easy preswing of the fatshaft; which makes a nice whoose sound. that usually makes people that dirve after me go even further in the rough. he he

Excellent driver. Very forgiving and long. I originally tried the 9 degree with regualar flex, but couldn't get enough air and was hitting duck hooks. I them switched to a 10.5 degree and my drives are now straight or have a draw on them. The only problem I am having is that I cannot fade the ball with this club.

One word: Awesome Finally got a chance to play it. After a couple of holes, the confidence it gives me off the tee has improved my overall game. Perfectly straight. What a tremendous, easy to hit club. Strongly recommended. Only question is: What's with the sparking on impact?

For a golfing dynosaur who for thirty some years has been coming to home plate looking only at deep center field (can't help myself), this club is pure magic! I have tried other metal woods, but this (slightly used) one has permanently replaced the trusty Haig Ultra one wood that has been refinished five times and has been in my bag since '81. The main reason I've kept the real woods is for the sound of an occasional good hit; the Fat Shaft makes a disconcerting whoshing sound and I don't like the steel-bat clink sound, but they're both small prices to pay for being mostly down the middle. Might have lost some (<15 yards) distance, but that assessment only comes by comparing my average Deep Red shot against about 1 in 2.5 Haig Ultra shots. Now I'm going to see if Mr. Wilson can replace my Haig 3,4 and 5 woods; could be tough...I'm hitting them a lot better from the fairway!

Customer Service

No experience with Wilson. Golf House and Tommy Armour (845S) services are great.

Model Reviewed: Deep Red 365cc 9 degree stiff

In Brief: Straight, but not too long. Stiff flex too soft for my >105MPH swing speed. Mushy feel (could not differentiate easily between "well struck" and mis-hits). Well-struck did not pay dividends in extra distance. Returned this club. More detail: I had a chance to demo this club at a Cadillac/Wilson event this summer (a fun time with instruction from Tom Watson ... note that he derives sponsorship income from Adams, so the Wilson thing was a bit uncomfortable for him). Perhaps I was caught up in the event, or the club's aesthetics, but it seemed to hit straight and long. For 2 months I wanted this club and bought a slightly used model (perfect condition) at 2nd Swing Golf yesterday. Today, after time on the range versus my current driver, I returned the Deep Red for an in-store credit. I swing a driver at about 105-110 MPH. Time on the range this morning demonstrated that the Deep Red was not significantly straighter, nor more consistent than my current driver. Plus, it is on average, 40 yards short of my current driver. When I swing out of my shoes it appears to be 70 yards shorter. The Deep Red is a beautiful looking, easy to hit driver. Unfortunately, it is not for me. I swing a scuffed up Snake Eyes Fire Forged Titanium 9 degree with a UST ProForce 75 (stiff shaft) and a Wynn grip. At 47 inches, this is a long club. Using a Wilson True Tour ball, I'm hitting as long as 330 yards, and consistently 280 yards straight down the middle. I should be happy with this set-up and focus on my short game. It just proves that every golfer is different, and that it pays to try as many drivers and shaft combinations as possible. I may have been happier had I custom-ordered the Deep Red with a Tour Stiff shaft, less loft, and 2 more inches in length.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red 365

Like so many in this forum, constantly searching for the perfect driver. So much in fact, I have purchased no less than seven this past year, and have over ten total at last count. Everyone seems to do one thing better than the next (accuracy, distance, forgiveness, etc). What hooked me on the Wilson Deep Red 365 was the best combination of all those desired traits. It's long enough, extremely accurate, and very forgiving. Now the big negative, durability of the club face. After a couple of sessions at the range, and five rounds or so, I noticed some excessive wear on the face. Even a gouge from a tee. Comparing the face of this club to my Launcher, which has been used now over a year, I was amazed at the difference. The Launcher's face still looked brand new. What's up with that? Contacted Wilson, and shipped it back requesting a repacement. Upon receiving the new Dep Red, I noticed a sticker on the face touting "a new beti ti face". Never heard of anyone else reporting similar problems, but obviously Wilson recognized this and hopefully corrected it. I have yet to use the new Deep Red 365 (Currently sticking w/ my Launcher) Considering putting it up for sale at this time, don't want a repeat problem. Anyone interested?
