Have only hit this into an indoor net, but I like how the lower and deeper center of gravity aids in making the club feel well balanced during the swing--you seem to get an intuitive sense of the clubhead position during the backswing, and the club feels like it is sliding into a predetermined slot in the downswing. Really confidence inspiring! Anyhow, I'm a big fan of Titleist drivers, and own the 983K and 905T--I'll wait for the prices to come down on the 905R before buying. Looks like the new 907 driver will have even more of a low/back high MOA design, so this might be the last Titleist driver I will buy for quite some time. I think that drivers might start to behave much like the super cavity back irons in that you get one type of shot--high and straight(I know, who does not want that). But really, better players still want some workability even with the driver.

Great build with through hosel design. I tested a number of drivers on a monitor at the local pro shop. The 905R was the best of the bunch for me. It gave the best carry, roll, and spin rate for me. Other drivers I tested are listed below.

Wow, I love this driver.
I got the UST Proforce V2 65 in stiff.
Great combo.
I think this driver will get me to the next level and I don't think I will have any trouble finding fairways this year.

It's True. Once a Titleist player, you will always come back. I was playing a 983E for two years and wandered off and tried a Callaway 454, and Launcher 460 for a bit. Not bad clubs, but I knew I missed Titleist quality. So I bought the 905R finally with a V2 75g stiff shaft. I took the shaft out after about 2 weeks of play, and put in a Harrison Pro 1.8 shaft. All I can stress is FIND THE CORRECT SHAFT!! It was night an day. I had a similar Harrison shaft in the 983E, so I knew what I wanted. My shot dispersion was decreased very noticably, and the ball just jumps off the face. I just love that solid Titleist feel, and lack of twangy titanium sound the others have. I can't say enough about the combination I have found. The harrison shaft was like putting octane booster in a beautiful sports car. The only thing now is all the Titleist tour guys are already playing the next generation prototype driver 907d2. Oh well, time to save up some $$$$$.

Model Reviewed: titleist 905r x, 8.5

I have tried them all and this is the best.
Not the furthest, when my Callaway BB II PS was still 45 that was the longest driver i ever hit (still have it, 8.5, cut it down one half inch for accuracy--still use it when there is NO wind). It has a mean sound, feels more solid than the 983K, more of a feel like the 975 but way bigger. Doesn't really look that big, played two rounds and no one even thought it was a 460. I got a special order V2 that is x, 96g, and has a 1.6 torque rating. If you are like me, swing hard but STRONG, this is the best shaft I have ever swung. You can give it all you got and it will go. I hit almost ever fairway, averaging about 280, and even hit a couple almost 300. Cant go wrong here, I will have this one for a long time. I dont think thev're getting any bigger after this.

Model Reviewed: Titleist 905R Driver

This Driver is 10.5 with a V2 Regular Shaft. First time I tried a Titleist. The club is very stable and square at address. I had been playing a Ping G5, 9.5, Aldila NV 65 Stiff. The Titleist does not have as hot a face as the Ping and the ball goes too high with this setup. I'm a senior that hits the ball about 215 in the air. I think the Titleist with a different shaft might do better. My advice is to get fitted, but do it at an outdoor facility. I really couldn't tell enough in my fitting at a indoor facility to buy the right setup.

Model Reviewed: 905R 8.5 & 9.5 degree Aldila

I have a 9 degree Ping G5 driver with an Aldila NV X-stiff shaft and play Mizuno MP-37 irons with Project X 6.5 shafts. I previously owned a TM R7 Quad and the Ping gave me an extra 25 yards on center hits and 15 off off-center hits over the TM. I had heard decent reviews on the 905R so decided to try it. I first purchased a 9.5 degree with Speeder shaft and didn't like it at all. I then purchased a 9.5 degree with Aldila NV stiff shaft and it worked better but was less consistent than the G5 and 20 yards shorter. Finally, I picked up an 8.5 degree with Aldila X-stiff shaft(same as the G5) and it was no better. I know Titleist has a reputation as a "Player's" club but with regards to the 905R, you are selling yourself short. Check out Ping, Cleveland, Cobra, and many others if you want a longer more forgiving club.

WHAT A GREAT CLUB THIS IS WITH THE 9.5 V2 STIFF SHAFT COMBO. THIS DRIVER LAUNCHES THE BALL ON A VERY TIGHT FLIGHT AND GIVES YOU CONFIDENCE THAT OTHERS SEEM TO LACK. OVERALL A GREAT CLUB THAT WITH TIME SHOULD IMPROVE YOUR TEEBOX GAME. P.S FUNNY READING REVIEWS FROM OTHER GOLF REPS AND MAKERS THAT DOG THIS CLUB, THEN AGAIN JEALOUSY IS A CURSE.

Great driver if you have a flat driver swing. If you're like me, however, and have a steep angle of attack, you will find that this club produces too much spin, especially into the wind. My first swing with the club (no range or anything!) produced a soaring flight as the balls sailed 320 yards, with a little wind assist. So with the wind you're gold- against it, not so much! But again, that's because of my angle of attack. I've since purchased the 905T 9.5 Speeder which I absolutely LOVE! Anyone considering a new driver should absolutely consider this driver however because other than my problems it is a real gem. Very forgiving, penetrating and long.
