When these drivers hit the pro shop last summer, everyone was buying them. A lot of people kept telling me how awesome the driver is. So earlier this year I was at the driving range and one of my buddies let me try his out. The first shot I hit went about 275 and dead straight. I was sold. I got ahold of the last demo club at the pro shop which cost me about half the price of a new one. The only problem was the club is 11.5 degrees and had a Soft Regular flex shaft. I don't mid the loft, but the shaft bends more than a wet noodle. If I swing to fast, the result is a pop-up to short. The face of the 983K is awesome. I hit one off the very most toe possible and still got a 230 yard drive in the fairway. Similar Products Used: Cleveland 330, Titleist 975J-VS |

I couldn't be happier with this club. I've never been so accurate off the tee. The best things about this club are (1) the choice of shafts Titleist gives you (unlike the garbage stock shafts on most Taylormade models), and (2) the head is the perfect size. I don't like the huge heads on drivers these days - to hit them well I think you really have to slow down your swing (at least I do). With this club, I can use my normal swing/tempo, and the results are great. In my opinion, Titleist has the best products on the market. Customer Service Not used Similar Products Used: Cobra SS 427 (not a bad club, but the head is too big & unwieldy); Callaway (yuck) |

If you put a good swing on it this is the best driver in the world, bar none. However, if you are having an iffy day this club can kill confidence. I have had days where I would be striking irons (RAC LT's) very crisply and could not get this club to work consistently well On one hole I would hit it 300 yds dead straight, the next a sloppy 210 yd fade/slice and yet feel I had put a good swing on it It does encourage you to better your swing and it is a quality club I have a feeling that the shaft option is very important with this club and would reccommend that anyone thinking of purchasing it be custom fitted. Mine is fitted with a Prolite 35-S and needs a real crack to "waken it up" The search goes on............ This is an awesome driver. The most solid and stable feeling driver that I demo'd and played with. Like many other's have mentioned the sweet spot seems to be high on the club face so it likes the ball teed up. I love the clean traditional looking head and a pretty square club face (I hate how most drivers these days have a really closed face at address). 983 K-Speeder S 9.5
This is the ultimate driver. The ball explodes off of the face and has a nice low to mid trajectory. Mis hits tend to go high right for me, but most of the time I can get a gentle fade if the sweet spot is missed. The Speeder shaft is one of the best I have ever had that happened to be a stock. I love Callaway and never thought that I could hit a Titleist driver, but the 983 K has changed my mind. After 6 300+ drives versus 270 to 290 with my VFT, the 983 ain't leaving my bag. I bought a 980 F 17* fairway to go with it. Its also a quality product. Not a Steelhead as far as friendliness, but it gives a nice trajectory and mis hits are also pretty straight. Customer Service Not yet, but thinking about getting the 983 E in a steel shaft. Similar Products Used: VFT, 2004 Big Bertha Ti (not as long as the K but keeps the ball in play), 983 E. |

983K 9.5 Loft
Purchased this last year after hitting just a half-dozen balls into the net at an off course golf shop. At the time was having problems getting distance into the wind with a Cobra 427. The 427 was unbelievable downwind, but the tough holes on my home course are all the into the wind where a more boring ball flight is needed. My perception was that balls coming off the 427 always seemed to float. As noted in previous reviews, the 983 is not much in game improvement, if I'm swinging poorly I know it. But, keep the swing in line and the distance and feel is the best of any driver I have owned in the last several years. Trajectory is very good and consistent, both into and with the wind. As is the want of every golfer, I keep trying to find that magic stick that's going to get me out there another 50 yards. Haven't found it yet, but the search is fun. Until that magic stick surfaces, the 983K will likely still be in my bag. Customer Service Have not had to use Titleist CS yet so can't judge. Similar Products Used: Recently demo'd Taylormade R7 and Mac PowerSphere (2 models). They didn't replace the 983 in the bag. |

Like many others who have written a review about this club, I too believe I have found a driver that will stay in my bag for a long time. I am a short hitter whose drive is usually around 220 yds so I play the 11.5* with GD YS-6 in R flex. This combination seems to fit me just about perfectly. I have tried many drivers over the past few years including GBB II, Cobra 440 SZ, etc. They are all good drivers with positives and negatives. But the weighting and feel of this club allows me to feel the club head much better. Distance is as good as any I have ever played; Control is as good as any I played; Forgiveness is right up there, not quite as good as the jumbos but definitely good enough to keep you from looking elsewhere. Many say this is a players club, maybe it is. I say if you have a decent swing and you play 80's or better golf, you owe it to yourself to at least try this club. |

The search for a driver to suit my swing characteristics has taken me through a number of different of different makes, models and lofts. While some offered short-term periods satisfaction none offered the long-term outcome I was seeking. I found that access to components over the net probably offered more problems than it solved in that I was able to quite cheaply experiment with head and shaft combinations, but in the end this left me more confused than I thought it would. The defining period was earlier this year when my local driving range held 3 months of weekly demo days that I was able to test all offerings from four of the main manufacturers (Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist and Ping) and help narrow down my preferences. All of these companies are now putting out higher quality products than they did several years ago. I favoured the Titleist 983 models (K and E) over the others in that the overall look, weight, feel, sound and workability more suited me. I set about having a custom fitting from Titleist so that I would get exactly the right 983 for my game. The fitting turned out to be very eye opening. With a swing speed in the 107 mph to 112 mph I had envisaged that I would need an 8.5 with Fujikura in X flex (wasnt sure of K or E). I ended up getting a 9.5K with the Titleist 4560 in S flex. Titleist in England provided information to me on the specs for the 4560 shaft which gave me the confidence in te fitting I was after (S flex suits a swing speed in the 95 mph to 110 mph range). My purchase from an authorised Titleist fitter was based on my preference for a full warranty against a small cost increase over the cost via e-bay (shipping to Australia was a factor here). 4 months later I could not be happier with the choice. The 983K is a joy to use and now comes out of the bag much more frequently than my previous models. The club prefers a high teed ball so contact is made above the centre of the clubhead – this is so for straight, fade or drawn shots. The club also prefers ball position to be forward in the stance – at worst inside left heel. This combination with the high tee allows the low spin outcome. One of the strengths of the club is its consistency in terms of ball flight and distance. Distance is outstanding both downwind and into the wind and I am experiencing less ballooning than with other makes. I would easily buy another driver in the same specs if anything were to happen to this one. Customer Service Have had fantastic responses by email from Titleist in USA and UK. The quality of the club fitting was superb. The fact that the fitting was free and no pressure was an unexpected pleasure. I don't know what it is about me and Titleist woods. I love Titleist irons. I love the way the woods look. They feel good when I hit them. Bottom line is, they go nowhere. I've experienced this with the 975D 975F and now the 983K. I give. Looks are overrated. For some bizarre reason, I'm knocking a 1997 Mizuno driver 25 yards past the 983K. So I replaced it with a Bang driver that I picked up for $100 on eBay. It's easily 40 yards beyond this and a heck of a lot cheaper. Everyone else loves this club, so it's apparently a personal problem, but I thought I would register one dissenting opinion in this sea of accolades. Customer Service No experience.
