Titleist 975J Drivers

Titleist 975J Drivers

DESCRIPTION

A new 300cc Prototype Driver... the 975J has been seen in many Tour bags early in '01. Very similar look to its wildly popular predecessor the 975D. Just slightly larger and with a different look to the face... scoreing lines are placed in an "insert" look a'la the Callaway GBB. ~CB

With this stick I am a "Thundergod" off the tee. I turn long par 4''s into a drive and a pitching wedge. I just can''t put the ball in the hole. Great club. Nice trajectory and feel. Highly recommend this club to anyone that plays golf. I''ve only been playing for 2 months and with this club I am hooked. You to can accomplish this feat if you buy this club.

A great Driver, and I have tested all the new Drivers out there, Taylor Made 300''s, Deep Red, Callaway VFT & Steelhead, Mizuno, Ping, Cleveland. I re-shafted the 975J with the new UST ProForce 95 Gold Shaft (that''s right they make a 95 now), it''s the S-Flex which comes in at about 98 grams with 2 degrees of torgue. This is a match made in heaven. The face is very stable, the ball flight is very strong and control is outstanding. This setup is a little less forgiving than stock, the only asterik I would put on this combo, is the ability to generate good clubhead speed with the heavier shaft, if you can move it you''ll love this setup!!!!!!!

there is something i wanted to share with everyone about the tru-bore thru of this driver. yes if you put a reg flex shaft into the 975J it will make it a stiff. problem is when you do this to an exotic shaft you are changing the dynamics of the shaft. most after market shafts where made to insert 1.5 inches in order for it to perform the way it was designed. what we have found is that if you take the shaft you have and cut it off then measure with a drill bit 1.5 inches and drill it out, then put in an exotic shaft, many people call it "corking". the results have been amazing. i myself had a 20 yard improvement i have done this to about 20 other drivers and the result has been the same for all the golfers...e-mail me if you have any questions...PS the aldila hm-tour 2000 works great with the J

I "borrowed" this club a few times from a stranger in a pick-up game. I was so impressed I purchased one. The one I hit had the stock "stiff"; the one I purchased had a Grafalloy Pro-Lite Stiff. Even though I hit some "career rockets", I hit more to where "no golf ball has gone before". So, I went on the net and researched shafts and was led to a club-maker who had a True-Temper Shaft Lab facility. After setting the appointment but before going I had a chance meeting with one of my club''s professionals, told him my problem (he had just switched to the 975J and is delighted) and he told me that, due to the bore-through head/shaft "stiff" becomes "XS"; but he was puzzled because my problem was contrary to a too stiff shaft. He also said that he had gone through the Shaft Lab and said that it was useful, but the guy is going to "try to sell you something". Good, I wanted to be "sold": in for a nickel, what''s an extra buck? I was all prepared to spend for the analysis and spend again for a re-shaft with another "exotic". I "told my story" to the club maker. He said that "before we do anything "radical" let''s apply a little lead tape. He did so and didn''t even want to charge me. I went right to the course. My goodness: everything I expected, and more, from this club. Thank you, Bill. He had asked me to call him after playing; I did and told him I''d post a note on the Web: Bill''s Golf Shop, Vienna, VA. 703.938.8590. Ask for Bill. Another note: I like this site but wonder about some of the "distance claims"; they remind me of the claims made in "Penthouse Forum". Morbidly, I will still play a round or two a year with the persimmon and tour forged sticks of the "2" of my youth. At 53 I hit the persimmon driver 20 yards shorter than I did at 30; but, at 53 I hit this club occasionally 20 further than I ever did the persimmon. I don''t play or practice as much as when I was a "2", so I honestly cannot give a reasoned comment about the "workability" of the 975J except to say that any comment made by an 80+ shooter (me, too!) is laughable. This game is fantastic recreation; the "new technology" makes it more "fun" for me. But if I ever had to play a match for my life, I would play my old sticks with the new balls.

Customer Service

After I "graduated" from "Northwestern" I was a Titleist man. I never had need for service. As I aged into Callaway I had one issue which was resolved with immediate dispatch and thorough class. I

I had been playing a Callaway GBB and a Titleist 975D both with the Graffaloy Prolite 35s shaft. I hit a 975J at a demo day and loved it. I ordered the 975J with the Graffaloy shaft. The trajectory is higher than the 975D but gets close to the same roll and the club is a good 20 yards longer than the Callaway GBB making this a perfect club for long carries. Center hits are pure and off center hits are forgiving. This club likes to go straight but you can work the ball as well. We play at altitude here but 300 yard drives are common with this club. Overall it''s a great driver and I can see no reason why it won''t be in my bag for a very long time.

I was using Callaway Great Big Bertha''s with varying lofts for many years with secondary market shafts. I told myself to stick with what works and stop trying to buy a better game. I asked a friend in passing what he would sell me a 975J for earlier this summer when it first came out (owns a golf shop). Well, the next thing I knew it was in and I felt obligated to buy it. Took it to a member guest and used for the first time while warming up...it has not left the bag since. I have never been this consistant and long off the tee. This driver has a great weight to it, and matches very well with the UST 75. Nice to see Titleist use a good shaft. I really do recommend trying this club, but remember every club will act differently for every player. I have gained about 7-10 yards. Never could hit the 975D.

Customer Service

Always had good communication with Titleist.

I bought this 975J 7.5 degree Proforce shaft driver out of my curiosity since a lot of good reviews recommending this driver. My long preferred driver is an S-Yard 301 NF 10.5 degree with stiff shaft. I found the 975J a great driver which carries me around 275-285meters, however this could only perform on the front 9 and maybe early second nine. This club needs power and clear consistency to perform. After hole 12, I found the S-Yard is a lot forgiving than the 975J. I also felt that the 975J has smaller sweet spot than the S-Yard. Again before buying this one, I would suggest you try in on a grass driving range (not off the rubber mat on a concrete). It''s a great driver but a bit demanding.

I loved the 975D, but couldnt help trying ht 975J. The verdict? I cant honestly tell the difference in distance, but I can definitely tell it''s A LOT more forgiving than the 975D. Therefore, in my opinion, it''s worth the money.
