Model Reviewed: r7 425 9.5* REAX stiff

After trying this out against the Hibore and my r7 460, I can see why the pro's play this and anyone with a handicap over 1 should be playing either of the other 2.

Make no mistake: this driver is very hot in the center of the face. It was somewhere between the Hibore and the r7 460 in length, with the Hibore being the longest and the r7 460 being between 5 and 10 yards shorter if you hit the Hibore well. The problem with this club is that if you hit it off-center, it is way off the fairway. It is so easy to draw and fade this club with very little swing change that I find it very hard to believe that most average golfers would benefit from it.

If you're a pro, this club is long, workable, and probably perfect for you.

If you're an average golfer who doesn't mind a 460cc head and you're considering this driver, get the r7 460. It is basically just as long and VERY forgiving.

If you can't handle the look of a 460cc head, try the Cleveland Launcher 400 or maybe the Taylormade r5. The r5 is 450cc but doesn't look like it. The old Launcher's are a great deal on ebay for the amount of club you get, and they're very long and forgiving for a smaller clubhead.

My Driver's always been the bane of my existance! so i finall deecided to get custom fitted. After trying the Ping G5, Nike and R7 Drivers ( both 425 and 460) in a variety of shafts i decided on the R7 425 with the Stock shaft.

I cannot state enough how important it is to get custom fitted, i was luckyenough to do it at a special Taylor Made custom fitting centre at Silvermere, and tried many shafts, and the stock shaft came up trumps, well exactly the same as the rayon diamana, but $250 less!

So all in all, for a solid feel, and maximum playability, go for the R7 425!

Got this club in February. Absolutely love it. A word of caution though, do not buy a driver of any sort based on a positive review of it because everyone of us is different. Demo 4 or 5 different brands and then demo the different shaft options available. I went in expecting to like the Callaway X, liking the way the Ping G5 felt and loving the distance, directory and explosiveness of the R7 425. Surprised to say the least. With the stock shaft, I couldn't hit this club with any distance, feel or feedback. Put the Aldila NV65 reg flex shaft in it, and it was magic for me. I would strongly recommend that you demo this club if you are looking for a new driver. There is a right head and shaft combination for every golf swing....you won't necessarily find it by buying what your buddy uses because he hits it well.

Been a Titleist guy my whole life....irons, wedges, woods, Cameron putter....if it wasn't Titleist, it didn't go in my bag. I also tend to stick with what works for me for as long as possible so when my old 975-J's shaft finally snapped at the head, it was time to go driver shopping. I hit everything in the shop in just about every shaft & loft combination: Callaway X360 & Fusion, 905-R/S/T, R7 425 & 460, Ping G5.

After almost 2 hours, I ended up with the R7 425. The smaller head just looked/felt better at address and I also thought it gave me a little more control with my swing speed (140-150). The 460 is a great club but I just didn't feel comfortable with it especially considering where I was coming from with the 300+ cc head of my old 975-J.

With my Titleist, my normal ball flight was a controlled fade that traveled roughly 250-275. Any draws were mistakes. Hit it on the screws and I could occaisionally produce a 300 yarder. The downside though was that my misses were generally pretty painful. My ball flight with the 425 has been consistently straight or with a slight draw. I haven't played with the weights yet since I like what I've seen so far. I've also found that I can adjust my swing slightly and still produce the fade on demand without disastrous results. I added 15-20 yards to my normal drives and the dead solid shots have traveled a long way. The misses haven't been nearly as painful either.

My advice, take your time and get fitted when looking at drivers. My initial reaction was to go in and buy the 905R and just get used to as I have in the past. Glad I went through the procss now though. And as a bonus, TM has a special offer running through 7/31 that allows you to choose a free R7 fairway wood when you purchase the driver. Sweet! Also makes it easier to explain to the wife since her usual excuse is "but Honey, they were buy one get one free".

Cronic "fader" with the feared slice. Tried everything out there. On a whim, traded in the closet and left the store with a new 425 - didn't even hit the club in the store before trading. Club just felt good in my hands and looked good to my eye. Typically score in the 90's, mostly due to errant tee shots. Played two rounds with the 425. Both scores in the high 80's, mostly due to keeping it in the fairways with about 20 yards added distance. I'm sold, as are my playing partners. The club delivers confidence for a big fade - slicer! Club is set for maximum draw and with the slightly closed face I am hitting it straight. I found that golf is more fun from the short grass but I am not finding lost balls so I guess there are some downfalls.

This is by far the best driver i have ever played. I haven't messed with the weights yet because im hitting it 300 yards and straight. I believe that all handicappers can use this club. Don't let the 425cc clubhead stear you away from the club either, yes it may not be the largest head possible but it sure is forgiving. Form me the 425cc clubhead promotes control as opposed to the overly large 460cc head which makes me feel like the ball could go anywhere. But boy is it expensive!!!

Very Dissapointing
I actually lost 15 yards compared to my old R510 and Cleveland Launcher.
This is not worth the $400 you will have to fork out to pay for it.
I hit my r510 280 yds, and my launcher 260 yds.
I get on the course, and my max is 250 yds.
Very bad sound to it, and the weight it too heavy for my liking.
Taylormade really messed up here, i do not see any differences between this and the older models, except for the changeable weights. And we ALL know that the "interchangable weights" is a smart market campaign, where they trick the buyers into thinking switching weights around will give you fast positive feedback. It wont, unless your Tiger or Phil

Unimpressed I'm afraid. Looks good, feels and sounds the same as my Callaway ERC Fusion, which, I'm trying desperately to replace before 2008. First time I use the WTS Weighting system, the weight cross-threads and guess what.. one useless driver. For the 3 days I did have it I never noticed any additional yardage and the head cover was beginning to get on my nerves because the sock was too tight and difficult to remove. I'm going to rate it as a 3 because you can hit balls with it; the majority of them straight and it didn't take long to get used to.

Customer Service

Lets see what TM say shall we.. Was I too heavy handed? Did I use something other than their WTS tool (which is quite cheap and tacky)? Hopefully they won't quibble and simply replace it.

Model Reviewed: taylormade R7 425 9.5 stock shaft

Never been a taylormade person, but as alot of people I was excited to see how they could improve the original r7. Put my titleist away and gave it a try. First, this club is not as light compared to alot of 460 drivers which suprised me, I think due to the weights in the head. Second after doing some research of my own, I found out the "cool new re*ax shaft" technology that they call it is only half way down the shaft, all the way in the TP model (also $600.00)If Im gonna pay $400 for a driver, I wanna know the shaft is legit. Also I understand it's the "number one driver on tour", cause taylormade pays the most to have it played more than any other company, which is why alot of people like taylormade drivers I think. Tour pros have the swing speed to hit this thing long, and I think if you swing hard,(I swing 100+ and it was suprisingly shorter) like a closed face, and like to goof around with the weights, then this is the club for you, otherwise hit the titleist 905R. That's what's going back in my bag. Sorry Titleist, it won't happen again.

Customer Service

Didn't use it, but Im sure there good.

I purchased this club 2 or 3 months ago. I can honestly now say that accuracy wise, this club gives me more confidence than any other club ive ever tried. All my buddies ask me everytime i play with them where my accuracy came from. Also, i am a long hitter by no means, but i am now consistantly longer consistantly longer than most of my friends. I am averaging around 275. If you havent tried this club...you need to.
