Model Reviewed: r7 460 9.5* REAX stiff

I made it my mission this summer to find a driver that fit my game well. I bought on ebay, tried out, and sold on ebay pretty much every driver out there, including the Hibore, Callaway Fusion FT-3 and X460, Titleist 905S, TM r7 425, etc, etc. I ended up sticking with this one because it was by far the most forgiving, easy to hit driver I've ever played.

About me: I'm 5'11", 185, and swing about 105 mph. I used to play a longer, more wide open course and consistently drove 275-300 but all over the place. When we moved, the local course here was a bit of a golf shock to me. I've never played anything so short or so narrow. It's only about 6,600 yards from the back tees but very narrow. So I had to learn to keep the ball in the fairway. Well the first time I took this driver on the course without another driver next to it, I hit 11/14 fairways and I was 7/7 on the back nine, all very long for me. I've slowed my swing down a bit and started playing much better golf. This club is great for any swing speed, since the REAX technology makes the club feel amazingly stable on the downswing no matter whether I'm smooth-swinging to hit the fairway or trying to blast it out there on a more open par 5. The weights do make it easier or harder, depending on how you position them, to get your hands through the ball for a draw. The launch is relatively high, and spin is low, making for great, addicting, long ballflight. This club has made golf so much easier.

In comparison to some of the other clubs, smooth swings with this driver are as long or longer than the FT-3, X460, r7 425. The Hibore is the only club I've ever hit that was longer than the r7 460, but it is much harder to keep in the fairway. The r7 460 is much easier to hit and much more forgiving than all of the rest of the drivers listed.

This may not be the best driver for you but it certainly is for me, and I'd recommend this to anyone who can afford it.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made r7 460 stiff flex

This driver has saved my game. I'm pretty good with my irons but my driver has always been my achilles heel. I'm a bad slicer which also sacrifices length. I usually don't have any confidence at all from the tee and I'm usually playing from the tree's or dropping.

Since I've been playing with the R7 460, I'm hitting it straight and with occasional pull but all 95% of my drives are now playble and I'm hitting it 250-270 now.

First of all, my confidence comes from the bigger head. Even my off center hits are still going pretty straight and at least 230-240. And whether my straight drives are coming from the adjustable weights or the head curvature or the stiff flex, I'm not sure. All I know is I'm finally shooting in the 80's and just completed a 40 for 9 holes today. I can't describe what this one club has done for my game. I no longer have to take penalty strokes for lost balls and the confidence at the tee is well worth it. I fully recommend this club for anyone struggling with their driver.

Replaced my Hibore with new R7 460 and couldn't be happier. This club is very easy to hit, forgiving and long. The 3 most important things for most golfers I have 9.5% with stiff REAX shaft and this is good combo for me. I had used original R7 in past and what an upgrade. This is a very good driver hope it works this well for y'all.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R7 460 Re*Ax

After doing much research and trying a bunch of drivers, I got a good deal on this R7 460 and bought it, but after today's visit to the driving range, I would've paid full price! WOW! It rocked! Turning back the clock, I hit it the other day and it was solid, but I knew I was still not maximizing my strength into this beast of a club. I added more weight to the head, as I am big, tall, and fairly strong. Why should I play with the same driver as a 6' 170lb guy? Answer: I should'nt. I should be playing with a driver that matches my height, swing speed, and strength. Driver fittings will tell you a lot, but not everything. One thing they don't tell you is a recommended swing weight. Hmmmm. Do your homework on this, then experiment. I evened out my weight cartridges, just to try it, heavy on both sides, and to my amazement, it was straighter than ever. I expected it to fade right but I was wrong. I read someone elses story on trying different weight arrangements, and they were right. This is not a gimmick. Maybe the weight of the head corrected my swing. Could it be a correct head weight for my body make-up made the difference? Did it cause my swing to level out? Did it increase my swing speed and power? I think so. Today I got it dialed in. After changing the weights, I hammered out 12 long straight drives in a row, and probably 23 out of 25. The two mistakes were errors on my part, not the clubs. Not to mention 90degree weather and tons of humidity! If I can do this well today, lookout come nice weather. This particular club is a 10.5 Stiff that I had custom fitted from TaylorMade. I have a Re-Ax 60 shaft, extended by TaylorMade. It's actually 65grams in the stiff. This is an expensive club, but for me, it was worth every penny. I can't wait to get to the course! Try it out. Get one that fits you, not the pros or your wimpy or bigger buddies, then let it rip! You won't be sorry!

Customer Service

I never thought I'd say this about a company these days, but they were prompt and very nice! They corrected their mistake and sent me a new club in two days. They actually answered my emails. Somebody pinch me!

As John Lee Hooker said, "BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!". Went the ebay route on this and got driver only(new) for $260. Could NOT be happier with it. It is an absolute cannon with high trajectory and HUGE carry. Very forgiving. I see that Taylor Made is now offering a free hybrid or fairway wood with purchase of R7 460(they should for the retail price). I highly reccomend checking it out. It's in my bag to stay as I truly think driver technology has hit the wall as far as new development goes. Plutonium/Kryptonite next?

amazing amazing amazing. super long and straight. higher ball flight ball gets up in a hurry and stays up there though. 30-40 yards longer than my current driver. got a sweet free st 3 wood with purchase and even that club puts my current three wood and old driver to shame. takes a little getting used to since i yanked the first couple to the left and low but once dialed in this club is crazy long and straight. hit lots of drivers before purchasing this one and it easily out performed them all. i assume it is very forgiving cus to be quite honest i dont think ive mis-hit a single drive since i got it. and i know purchasing it didnt improve my swing. i have never been happier with any other golf club purchase than this one. i will be hitting this driver until i break it beyond repair or somebody steals it. and if they steal it i will find them i swear. the only people who should avoid this club are the guys in my skins group. they are not allowed to own one. they should sell a version that comes without markings on it. find your own driver sanchez you cheap bastid! expensive....you betcha! cost 4 times more than my first car but when you smoke that thing 40 yards past your sunday buddies that extra couple of hundred you dropped will be a distant memory. im so happy i might go back and pay for the thing again just to show my appreciation. with the money im taking from my group i should be paying taylor made some form of commission. actually...i should use the extra dough to pay for my foursome's anger management classes.

Finally got professionally fitted for a driver. I put this driver up against the Sasquatch standard with an Aldila NV65 and a hotrodded Sasquatch with a Mitsubishi Bassara shaft ($500 club).

The numbers were proof enough for me:
launch angle, ball speed, trajectory, sidespin, every measurable factor was far superior in the Taylor Made. I wasted my money earlier in the year on a Sasquatch Tour (piece of junk), but am very happy with the TM.
I played with it two rounds today and hit twice as many fairways as I usually do and honestly added about 10 yards. It is very solid feeling at impact and the sound is awesome. It will still fade, but I noticed it has a tendency to correct mis-hits much better than anything i have hit to date. Trust me, I've hit them all. I have owned 6 drivers in the last 2 years.

I have never been much of a TM fan, but this is by far the best driver on the market. Although it's a little pricey at $399, I got the free R7 ST 3-wood with my purchase and couldn't be happier . . . I actually reached an "unreachable" uphill par 5 today for the first time . . . Wow.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 460

I recently traded my R5N in on the R7 460. This came after spending some time at a simulator comparing the 460 to the 425. I now have four rounds in, and a fair amount of time at the range with the new club. I went with the new Reax shaft in a stiff flex (swing speed around 120mph). In addition, I purchased additional weights (6, 8, 12) to go with the 2 and 14 that came with the club.

I initially enjoyed the R5N but somehow lost confidence in it when a slice turned up towards the last half of last season. I figured the adjustability of the new 460, together with similar characteristics to the R5 in construction and size would make it an ideal driver for me.

If you buy this club, spend some quality time at the range hitting it and playing with the weights until you feel you have it dialed. There is a HUGE difference in trajectory and spin from one extreme to the other.

I believe I have mine dialed in now, and I'm happy to report that the driver flat out performs. The tendency to fade the ball has been eliminated, and probably gaining me 15-20 yards in the process. Ball flight is long and straight, and slight mis-hits travel at 95% the same manner true hits do. This is quite simply the most forgiving and best-performing driver I have played with.

In comparing it to the 425, I would say that the 425 had slightly better "feel" to it, but wasn't NEARLY as forgiving on mis-hits, mainly due to the smaller club face. And with a mid-handicap and heavy swing speed, the 460 just made a lot more sense for me. For a low-handicapper with a more consistent swing, I'd likely go with the 425.

Comparing it to the R5N, this club has been a godsend to me. While I don't believe it is noticably LONGER than the R5, the feel is much better, and the adjustability means it's just a far better option for anyone who doesn't find the R5 a perfect custom fit. I found with the R5 that it was very difficult to distinguish slight mis-hits from the "pure" ones, either in ball flight, distance, or sound. The R7 gives you more immediate feedback, although it still proves to be an incredibly forgiving club. I have hit 540's, 580's, R5's, and now both the new R7's, and don't feel there's significant differences in total distance or "pop" off the face between them. Where they differ is in the way the club reacts to imperfect contact, and there's a big difference there. The R7 460 is the most forgiving yet, but still somehow gives you better feedback than the R5.

Now that I've finally found the driver best suited for my game, I can focus on lowering my scores... which is a nice change. I feel confident to just swing away on the tee box for the first time in years. It's a pricey club, but I'd rather pay this much once than to have to keep messing around with other drivers that don't suit me over and over.

A buddy of mine who is an equipment freak bought this and has been raving about it for the past 3 months. Tried it on the range and immediately put my Cleveland 460 up on ebay. You cannot buy a good golf game, but you can get clubs that will help it along, this is one of those clubs. Yes, I still have somewhat of a slice, but no where near what I had with a previous Cleveland and Taylor Made 580. I also get more distance consistently as I am hitting it straighter. Hey, these clubs (except for Ping) are all made in China, probably out of the same complex!! How truly different are they going to be. Well, this is different enough in a positive way to make the change. Was going to buy this new on ebay but then saw that some stores (Dicks Sporting Goods being one of them) had a deal that for $399. you got the driver and either an r7 fairway wood or hybrid!!!
Wish it was made in a 13 or 13.5 loft because of my swing speed!!
