I've been in search of the "ultimate driver" for ages now leaving the TM until last mostly due to the price tag. I've tried nearly all of the most highly rated drivers ( Cleveland launcher, TM R5, Ben Hogan Big Ben 3 King Cobra's etc)and a mix of Draw bias, neutral and offset. This driver is by far the most forgiving of them all, I have a tendency to slice/fade the ball and have set the moveable weights to a draw bias. I'm hitting the baller straighter than ever before and it's certainly helped my slice where all other drivers have not. It also appears to have added length but only marginally so I can't claim that it will add 40 50 yards to your drive like some reviews. I only wish that I had invested in this club before now. Quality is superb, it sits at address nicely with the large head inspiring confidence. I don't think I'll ever find the "ultimate Driver" to cure all of my faults but this comes close.

Let me start by saying that I am a strong player who hits the ball a long way. I won't bore you about the long distances I hit it like other viewers who play on golf courses that are measured incorrectly. Anyway, my miss is generally to the left. I like this driver because it only has 2 movable weights for draw or neutral. I place the 14g weight in the toe, tee the ball quite low, line up on the right side side of the tee box, aim left and hit a nice penetrating fade that travels a long way. I don't mind the slightly closed face despite being a drawer of the golf ball. Keeping the ball in play consistently is the key to scoring well. This driver allows me to do this. Punching out from trees puts alot of pressure on your short game. I'm making alot more birdies and les doubles with this driver and breaking par more often as a result. This driver is great for any level of player. When I play in tournaments I am noticing that the young hotshots have it in their bag. The weights really make a difference. The trick is to get a consistent ball flight. You can't be hooking it one hole and overcutting the next. You won't know where to aim and your confidence will be shot. You must get a shaft upgrade however. That Taylor M.A.S. shaft is shameful. They should be embarrassed for making such scrap and charging so much. The stock shaft balloons and is very whippy and inconsistent. Not even worthy for a weak female player or super senior. For what you pay they should at least give an Aldila, or maybe a graffaloy shaft at no extra charge. I got one one on EBAY thankfully with an Aldila-65 NV shaft. This shaft is as good as any and produces a non-ballooning penetrating flight while offering stability thru impact. I only paid $270 for a new one on EBAY. My value rating will be based on Taylor's price. Do yourself a favor and try this . Get one on EBAY or demo one at a club. Play with the weights and shafts before giving up. Your game will be glad you did. I'm going to try the Adams Comp 460cc driver with movable weights next and compare them. Don't overlook the Taylor 460

Customer Service

No company compares to PING. Taylor is slow responding to anything. Maybe PING just spoiled me.

A test of drivers occurred last night, a warm, clear night. 5 drivers and 1 clear winner. The 905s long but erratic. F-speed, might as well been on a corner downtown (hook city). r7 425, great club except for the catching of the club head on the turf on the draw back. Clear winner you ask? the r7 460. This thing couldn't be hit poorly. The flight correction is like something I have never seem. This toaster on a stick is clearly illegal. From 65% to 85% power, this thing flies almost straight. What a club. My bag for life. A perfect compliment to my new 690.mb irons.

I normally post reviews very quickly after i buy a new golf toy but wanted to wait until i had played with this one for awhile as i have been fooled before. No fooling here, this is the BEST DRIVER ON THE MARKET, PERIOD! I say that with full confidence having hit EVERY one out there and having owned 3 others this season but this one is staying in my bag for a long time to come as i have completely lost interest in even trying anything else now (though the rapture is the only driver i havent hit).
Mine has a proforce 65 gold tip stiff shaft on it in regular flex and is lofted at 10.5. Like i said earlier, i have been searching long and hard for a new driver this season and have been fooled before by other by having good days or just the occasional blast but this Driver is straight as an arrow EVERY TIME and i am not a great ball striker. Fortunately for me you dont have to be with this driver. A nice easy swing produces a perfect trajectory and good distance and when i catch it on the screws LOOK OUT it fly's a mile. I am not a big hitter and to be honest my average before this driver was probably barely 200 yards and could have landed anywhere but after 4 rounds of golf and 2 days at the range i can count the number of bad shots with this club on one hand and they were ALL due to awful swings. Last time out on the course i hit 14 of 14 fairways and had the confidence to go over havards i had prevously laid up short of. My once over used 3 wood now NEVER sees the tee anymore and i couldnt be happier. I cant play enough golf anymore because of all the fun im having with this club. I use to be the guy who feared a crowd on the tee box but now i welcome it. Not to brag but Saturday i blasted this driver 293 yards on a par 4 and was in disbelief that i had actually hit it that far as my prevous long drive before this club was maybe 270. Im not saying that i can hit that big a drive everytime but i am saying that i am ALWAYS playing from the short grass now and that i did increse my average drive by about 20 yards which is probably due to the extra roll im getting by hitting the fairway everytime now.
I never believed there was a magic driver but this one is as close to that as i can imagine. If you are like me and feared the tee box then get you one of these and fear it no more.
I love this club so much that i went out and spent cRaZy money to add the matching 3 wood (which isnt anything special) but this driver is!

Very nice driver. I haven't found another driver (and ask my friends, I've tried everything else out there) that works as well for me. I have a swing speed of approx. 89 mph but with this club I was able to gain about 5 mph and 15-30 yards. It feels like butter with the stock Diamana Rayon shaft, is very consistent in ball flight and I am able to work it both ways.

Customer Service

Great! The shaft did cycle out at only 229 (regular shaft) and I sent it back and they re-shafted for free!

I am not impressed at all with this club. Switch from a Cobra SZ 460 9.0 with Aldila shaft. I do struggle with my driver......hit alot of fades and at worst the dreaded slice. The R7 460 was consistently shorter and more consistently produced a fade even with the club set up for a draw. It just didnt measure up to the Cobra SZ 460 in anyway. After all the other reviews and hitting it on the launch monitor it was less than impressive nor did it live up to its billing. Sorry I bought it, it not the club for me.....I will sellit used on EBAY!

When it comes to drivers, I think Cobra has got it right!

I have long been a fan of the Taylor Made drivers, the orginal R7 and the 425 are simply two of the best drivers ever made. I was keen to try the 460 after speaking to a number of tour players who were using this club.

I used the club for the first time this weekend and my god, it is incredible, I went with the TP 64 gram Mitsubishi Rayon shaft which I was suspect of but it was superb.

This club is simply the longest and straightest driver I have ever hit. If you are serious about your game, do yourself a favour and check this club out. Play around with the weight settings and get the right launch and flight for your swing and you will never go looking for another driver again.

I've been on a search, as have many on this website, for the holy grail of drivers. I've spent more money than I could ever admit to myself on various drivers. After a starter Dunlop driver, I got fitted for a Cobra F speed and was bombing balls over the back net of the local driving range (Tilden in Berkeley). However, this particular driver was causing me hearing loss due to its aluminum bat sound at impact. Thus began a long odyssey through various drivers. It took me many models and thousands of golf balls to finally find the right combination of shaft and loft with the Taylor Made R7 460 (stiff flex RE-AX, 10.5 deg). This driver set-up will work for you if you rely (as I do) on your muscle and swing speed more than perfect form for distance. The stiff shaft, higher launch angle and forgiveness of this head could make 300 yards an attainable acheivement. Cobra and Taylor Made may have the most forgiving heads out there, but the RE-AX shaft that comes with the 460 provides more predictable energy loading and uncoiling (I also owned a regular shaft on an R7 425, which provided great kick at lower swing speeds). For all you sluggers addicted to attaining that high only a massive drive provides, go with a stiff shafted, high-lofted R7.
