TaylorMade R500 Series Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Welcome to the R500 Series -- the R510, R540 and R580 -- three drivers that represent a defining moment in the advancement of metalwood technology. The R500 combines three innovative and proprietary new technologies with a thin-yet-flexible clubface that nears the new USGA/R&A limit on coefficient of restitution of .860*. Altogether, it results in a new level of driver performance that delivers unparalleled distance, forgiveness and accuracy.

This is an update to an earlier review on this product. Initially I had the non-conforming (now the R&A version), but traded it in for the USGA club. At first I was not impressed with the new one, the same easy swing did not appear to work. BUT, as I have got used to it, the club is now working very well. In my earlier post I said that this club does not like being whacked, it likes a nice smooth swing with good tempo. Then the ball just explodes. The new 500 is the same. One of my partners said that if I swung any slower I would fall over, but was amazed at the distance the ball travelled. The club is also very forgiving unless chased, then the hooked face appears to rear its ugly head. So, a nice smooth swing will see you just fine. My wife is now using one too, and my hands would be cut off if I tried to take it a way from her. Benefits: Huge Distance, Very Forgiving, Allows you to easily swing inside yourself. Warnings: Do not try and smack the living cr@p out of the ball, because it does not like it. This is probably an issue with the shaft.

I spend months looking for a new driver. I was very very patient in waiting and selecting a driver..there's always an excuse not to buy...UNTIL the R500 series was launched. Initially, when I consulted the PROs, they were saying that the R500 series was not really forgiving compared to the XR-03 driver; and that the R500 series was not easy to handle, etc..I didn't want to be overwhelmed by their comments and decided to give it a go at a store in Japan recently. I tested the cleveland launcher on stiff flex on 9.5, XR-03 stiff flex on 9.5 beforehand wanted to know how the R580 performed. I found a store with what I wanted - R580 w/ Regular flex, 9.5 & MAS2 60 shaft. I wasn't too sure because the shop didn't have a testing groud. After 3 hours of much deliberation in the shop, I bought the R580 driver with much anxiety and anticipation to try it back home. BEEAUUTY! is the word when I tried. The ball goes straight as an arrow, consistently 200-210 on off-center hits. There were a couple of clean shots which saw the ball landed beside the 250m marker, and this was excluding roll....Overall I m very happy with the purchase and it is one of the best clubs I have purchased. I will work at it, and for sure this clubs will be in my bag for a long long time....WELL DONE TAYLOR MADE!

this club is great. i have only used it for about 6 rounds so far but i have gained nearly 25 yards off the tee and i havent even been really swinging it yet. the one i bought came with a peneley stealth 70 shaft that is much better than the standard taylor made shaft. also related to the review by progolfpunkrocker, this club is made to give higher trajectory WITHOUT added spin. the 540 adds spin.

Customer Service

i havent needed any with this club but i have used a taylor made for years and they replaced it when the shaft broke no questions asked.

I reecently decided to give the latest tecnology in Taylor Made a whack at the driving range. This club will give you distance but I'm warning if you have any slice what so ever don't even touch the club, it will amplify any sidespin you would normally put on the ball, which kind of ticks me off since the R580 is specifically for putting more back spin on the ball for control. soo hmm. Distance - 10 Feel - 8 Accuracy - 3

Model Reviewed: TM R580

I purchased the TM R580 two days before I saw that it was a nonconforming model. I have since traded it in, no cost for the conforming model. I had the 360 before this one and I hit it straight, without a draw, sometimes a slight fade. With the TM R580 stock shaft, stiff I cannot hit a straight shot, all fades although mostly slight. I am a varsity golf coach at a high school and have played more than forty years, and I am hitting this driver as far as I have ever hit a driver. I would like to know if anyone has changed shafts in this driver and what was the change. I am thinking about a Grafalloy EX Distance shaft, regular fles in order to straighten out the fade. This shaft has a soft tip and should allow me to get the toe of the clubhead through the ball earlier. Anyone with any experience with this head?

This is a phenomenol club! Extremely forgiving, yet super long and straight. Sweet spot is quite large and will launch your ProV1 on a moderately high trajectory. Great into the wind, no balooning here. Had the 320 2 years and could not get consistently straight with it. This monster is always straight and bloody long, and the deeper face inspires more confidence on the tee.

HI, im a 14 years old and I caddy. I was looking for a driver at a great price. So I went to second swind and bought it used. I added 30+ yards to my drive. I hit about 270+ yards. This driver allows me to hit the fairway. It is somewhat forgiving. It changed my total game arround; from eight iron to sand wedge shots. It provides me with a nice low drive, and love it into the wind. If this club changed my game arround, just think what it will do to your game. ***Only use this club if you make consistant contact with the ball, use the other modles if you don't**

Customer Service

I bought the R510 used and brought it back when I learned that it was not going to be legal in 2003 and TaylorMade sent me a new one. How cool is that!

I switched from a cobra ss350 because I was hitting way to high. The TM gives me better trajectory and equal accuracy. Distance wise it's about 10 yards longer. Off center hits not quite as long as the cobra. I've tried almost all the drivers out there and this one gives me more feel and distance than the others.

The TaylorMade R510, is an excellent Driver period! I have tested all the top offerings from Titleist (975J, 975J-VS), Ping, Cleveland, Cobra (SS350, SS427), Callaway (VFT, VFT Pro Series). The R510 was the clear distance winner of the group for me. But the most impressive factors of the R510 are it's workability, forgiveness and it's dead solid feel at impact. Your ears are greeted with a resounding "thwack" at impact. The M.A.S. 75 stock shaft was the only disappointing element of this Driver. But there are any number of high quality shaft offering from numerous after market companies. I installed a Fujikura Speeder 757 on mine and the combo works very well indeed. TaylorMade has a definite winner with this Driver, and a vast improvement over their 300 Series!
