Distance: Wow...best I've ever hit. 10-20 yards longer than the GBB I demoed a few weeks ago. Trajectory: Not too high, not too low. If you have a high trajectory already, get a stiffer shaft with MAS 75. The shaft was perfect for my slightly-smooth swing and loaded perfectly. The low torque meant less twisting = straighter drives. Feel: Since I'm a "feel" player, feel is really important to me. This club is sweet to hit but didn't sing like some clubs I've hit before. For example, I was hitting my friends Cobra SS 5 wood and Steelhead Orig driver and those are sweet. A minor blemish on this near-perfect reportcard. When hit perfectly, the club sung and gave me memories of the 200steel driver. Workability/Accuracy: The ball went where I aimed it. Mind you I'm not in the stage of my game where I can work the ball in both directions with a driver, but I was able to alter some mechanics to produce a nice slight draw or fade. Most (80%+) of the drives went straight as an arrow, and I believe I only hit one snap hook. Forgiveness: I can't really comment on this as I had the "new-club" fever, and hit everything dead flush on the sweet spot. However, on slight mis-hits feel was lost but balls still took off and had good recovery tendencies. My worst drives still went 70% of the distance, and at most 10 to 20 yards right or left. Sound: A slight tink like most titanium drivers. Sounded like the 200steel that i love so much. Looks: A bit clunky and large compared side by side with the Steelhead, but soon after I was thinking the Steelhead is way to small. Not hideously large, but distracting for me. Price: My favorite part of it. Overall: I couldn't be happier with this driver. Trajectory, distance, and forgiveness levels are optimal.

I recently was in the market for a new driver, so I went to Golfers Warehouse to look. #1 on my list was the ERC II, but when I found out that it wouldn't be legal for my high school team, and tournaments, I had to start over. I must have tried about 15 drivers from cobra to nike to cleveland, until I found the Taylor Made. I took this club to the demo area, and started hitting balls. I'll tell you that club gave me distance and accuracy like no other driver. The club has a massive sweet spot then inside that, it has a hot spot. All drivers have a hit spot, but usually there are just a little dot. The R540's hot spot is huge. It's the size of a quarter, no exageration at all. I used to have a wicked slice, but not any more, I'm consistantly 275-300 off the tee and dead down the fairway. I would recomend this club to anybody who wants to improve their game!

Customer Service

The staff at Golfers Warehouse was excellent in finding the right club, and specs best suited to my game.

Model Reviewed: Taylormade R580 9.5Stiff

Have a Callaway Steelhead, which I hit an avg 250yrd carry. In the 4 months I have had that club I have broke 2 stock stiff shafts from solid hits. Now decided to get high end driver. Demo: TM R510, R540, R580, 300, 320, Nike 275&350, Callaway Hawkeye VFT and my cousin's Ping TSI. The TM R580 was the most forgiving and easy to hit, of course due to its sheer size and large sweet spot, one can't help but hit better shots. It's all about how good your bad shots are. Stock stiff shaft just right for me as I have a very smooth & moderate swing; the MAS60 (made by Fujikara) has similar torque rating ie. as the UST65/75 but instead of having "tip stiff" it's a "medium tip". I have tried "tip stiff" shafts ie. UST PF65 reg & stiff but I just dont't like the very low trajectory drive due to the tip stiff. TM R580 is an excellent driver for all levels of play. I personally find the club very comfortable at address and provides confidence. Haven't had chance to get the course with it yet due to rain here in BC, only hit it at the range and all shots go right to the back net of the range. Therefore, not 100% sure of total distance, but either way, most important is that it provides more consistancy and off center hits react more in a positive manner. Of course with all new stuff you pay a premium, but it's well worth it.

Basically the R580 driver is the most consistent driver one can get on the market these days. I used the R580 10.5 with a MAS 60 Stiff shaft. My shots were very consistent with this driver, with high tragectories and longer distances. I highly recommend this driver for any level of golf.

Customer Service

I don't think many products beat Taylor Made, but thats just my opinion.

I have previously used the Callaway C4, and the PING TSI Tec driver. The R580 exceeds both these drivers in performance.

Model Reviewed: R 580 9.5 Stiff

I have tried in the last two months, every "Hot" driver on the market, either on the range, on the course or on Golf Simulators, I could put my hands on(demo clubs, from friends, etc..), as I did not want to get caught again buying a driver because I liked its looks, or because I read good reviews about it or good publicities, to find out too late that I did not buy the right one. The conclusion from these tests, is that the R580 9.5 Stiff is the best driver available on the market these days, at least for me. I bought the 9.5 deg version as the R580 gives naturally a high trajectory, so the 9.5 just does the trick for me. Have tried various exotic shafts (stiff) without findind any noticeable difference (again for me), so I got the TM shaft original (MAS 60), the cheapest. I have been able to hit as long with other clubs as I can hit the R580, but not as consistently. In addition, I have never hit a terrible shot with it (nasty hook or wild slice, like I have done now and then with most of the others, so it is true that it is more forgiving (less side spin) as claimed by the publicity, and because of the relatively high trajectory, the ball does not roll much. AS far as the sweet spot is concerned, it is also true that it is enormous, i have used carbon paper stuck on the club face, to find out where the ball is hit, and the result is that unless hit very close to the toe ot the heel, the resulting shot is OK, and only marginal loss of distance results from not hitting balls exactly "between the screws". In conclusion this club has become, with my putter the favorite club in my bag. When I tee-off on any medium long / long par 4/5, I just pick it up without hesitation, tee a ball very high (special pegs required), and swing with it (it does not like over swinging) without trying to win the longest drive contest. I do not end up every time with a 250 m drive straight down the middle (but it happens a couple of times per round), but every time my ball is in play, which for me is what it is all about. All of us know the damaging effect of one / two wild drives in a round, to our own score and confidence. I finally have found my driver. I am convinced that unless you want to "work" the ball with a driver (and how many of us can do that ?), this club could suit most os us low-middle handicap players. Looks like it even suits scratch golfers, I just find out that Sergio Garcia and Rich Beem are using a R 580, but are they the same as the ones we can buy ?

The 510 was a disapointment at first, then I changed the M>A>S> 75 shaft for a bimatrix-what a difference. I gained 15 yrds over my 975j. I would recomend that you avoid the stock shaft it is a piece of junk.

I had the 320, then the 300, then I traded that for the Cleveland Launcher. I actually lost yardage with the Launcher, so I went out and got the 580...WOW!! I got my yardage back, gained accuracy and I am just elated with this new club. This is by far the best club I have hit (and I demo'd nearly all of them out there!) I am interested in putting a stiffer shaft just to see how that would do, the stock seems a little soft..

I've recently purchased the Titleist 975 JVS which I really like and finally had an opportunity to hit the left handed R5 series driver which just recently came out. I found the R580 a little too big for my preference but the R540 was just right. Overall, a very nice club that sets up very well, goes straight and has excellent distance. This club is very nice indeed! I'm still happy with the Titleist but I would have no problem switching to this club if (and in my case WHEN!!!) the urge hits. Truly and excellent product and had it been available when I bought the Titleist, my decision would have been a lot tougher! All the best!

I waited after the declaring of the original R500 series to buy my new driver. As soon as the golf shop got the conforming R540, I bought it. I am only 16 years old and could only hit my firesole about 200-205. I went to the course and saw my self hitting it 240-250 without roll since the course was wet. Very forgiving and very straight. Minimal side spin. Also recommend HX blue with the driver, good combination.
