9.5* aldila stiff shaft I can't say this club will revolutionize your driving game, but distance is good and the adjustments really work. I'm actually a straight hitter with my mis-hits being a slight fade. I took my new driver out to the range yesterday and found an appreciable distance increase over the ti 360. I was still hitting the ball a bit too high for my taste, so I switched the weights around and got a lower, more penetrating ball flight. carry with the range balls seemed to be at least 260 yards, which is at least 30 more than my average with the tm 360. I now get a little bit of rool too. Granted, the shaft makes a difference too, but it seems to have been a good purchase for me. The clubhead has a tall face with a nice clean look at address. It's still a big headed driver, but it doesn't look obscene like some others. some have complained about the impact sound, but I think it has a good "crack" to it instead of the little "tink" that some drivers have. The aldila shaft seems nice too. Once I get some real playing time and find the right ball for the club and my swing, I think I will have greatly increased my driving distance. additionally, while i hit fairly straight, I do like the ability to adjust the ball flight/shape if I end up making any changes to my swing.

I have just bought a new r7 quad at the PGA Tour SuperStore which my just be the most amazing store ever. I was looking to buy a new driver and knew that I wanted to try an R5 dual. It just so happens that we were going to 1 of their 8 or so hitting bays with launch monitors, and there the TaylorMade reps lookin to help me out. I worked with them for nearly half an hour trying to figure out swing speed, launch angle, and the spin rate. They got me fitted into an r7 quad with 9.5 loft with a stocked tour stiff shaft and set to a slight fade due to my slight draw to straighten things out a bit. It works out much better than my old cleveland quadpro but hey, it was well worth the $12 price tag.

First of all, please understand that this is a subjective review of the hottest club currently on the market, and what works for me may not work for others, and vice versa. I bought the r7 driver (10.5*, regular-flex shaft) in Las Vegas in October 2004, after demoing it during a round at Angel Park Golf Course. The club was set for a slight draw, and it was following that shot path, for the most part. At the time, I was playing a R580 that had been in my bag for about a year, and I was hitting it very well - I just felt that it was time for a new driver, and I was seduced by the r7 hype. I bought the r7 after the round, and have played it until the past weekend, when I finally decided to give up on it. This is my opinion: it is a very good club, but (I think) not for everyone. Although my accuracy was pretty good with it, it is by no means a forgiving golf club, at least not like my R580 was. Driving distance was certainly no more than I got with the R580, and "pure" shots didn't occur with the r7 as often as with the R580. It's likely that the r7 is constructed for higher-speed swings than mine (92 mph), and I believe that is the main reason that it is not well-suited for my game. I gave the r7 six months, and then I ordered a new R580 from The Golf Warehouse this morning.

I like the R7 well enough, But I lost consistant distance with the club. I haven't played aroound with reshafting yet, but I did have to slow my swing down to control the club. At one time my swing speed was 120ish, but the S-90 shaft just isn't there. I think the club does promote a better opportunity to do what is says, but not if you don't have a repeatable swing. I used to average 290-310 off the tee with an old ti bubble 2 with and EI 70 shaft but have not found anything lately that can provide the consistant distance I'm looking for.

Very interesting concept. I tend to agree with many of the things you have all related. It does feel solid off the face. Distance seems to be strong (drives between 275 and 290 with an occational 300 yarder). Let me say that if you do not have a consistent ball flight (swing) then this will not "fix" anything. But, for small adjustments you will love it. Don't forget, changing it during a round depending on the hole location is not "fair". Worth the money.

Worth the money, not hype at all, this technology works, drives have been very straight and long for me, sound at impact is so solid especially at the "draw" position. Every one of the 6 different settings actually alter the sound at impact as well, all solid, like having 6 drivers. Hitting a lot more fairways and just given me a lot of confidence with the driver again. The NV-65 Regular flex is perfect for me, my swing speed is 95 mph. I got it on Ebay for $340, give it a try.

I bought my r7 and had it reshafted with the grafalloy blue S-flex and love it. I am averaging 20 yards further off the tee. I was averaging 276 per round off the tee and am now averaging 296 off the tee. I feel like this number will go up as I get used to this driver. I am hitting the ball better and my distance increases with every round. I am also hitting more fairways. I missed only 2 fairways in my first outing with the driver. I have not moved the weights much. I set it up with the more draw setting during testing, but have moved to the draw setting. I was using the Titleist 983E with the NV 75 shaft which is a great driver when you are on your game.

The Taylormade R7 Quad is worth all of the hype that it has been receiving. It feels great coming of the club face, even on mis hits. The R7 is also extremely versitle, if you want a fade, just move the weights, same with a draw. If there's a lot of wind you can set the driver up for a low ball. There's no doubt that this is the most revolutionary driver out there. I reccomend this driver to anyone who likes to compete and wants to take their game to the next level. It's one of the most expensive clubs out there but if you're serious about golf, it's worth it.

I replaced my Callaway Steelhead 3, with the new R7. After several trips to the practice range and a couple of rounds with my new driver, I understand many of the earlier reviews. I play to a 17 handicap and am taking lessons on a regular basis. My instructor actually fitted me for this club. I looked at purchasing (and hit) the Ping G2 & the R5 D. He told me (given the changes we were making to my swing) to either go up to the R7 or not purchase a driver right now. He felt I would not be consistent enough with the G2 and would out grow the heavy draw bias of the R5. The R7 has the flexibility to change as my swing changes. Some of the earlier posters commented the club wasn't $200 better then their current driver. And for them, they are probably right. For me, it worked. I haven't played with the weighting system on the range. We were able to dial in my ideal set up using the launch monitor. I could actually see the effect of the set up changes on my dispersion patterns. As one poster noted, it won't cure a slice or hook - but it certainly can help get the club on the correct swing path. Moving the weights really makes a difference. The driver is accurate and long. It isn't as forgiving as the R5 or G2. I also felt those two clubs were a little longer. But for me, the lack of 'fogiveness' isn't as much of an issue. I don't want to be forgiven for making a bad swing, that will just make the ball go further out of bounds. I could tell I lost yardarge when I hit the ball on the toe of the R7, but I kept the ball in play all day. So while the R7 may not be as forgiving, I feel it is a more accurate club. Honestly, I was nervous about playing a $500 driver and may not have purchased it if not for a gift card I rec'd. But it really has proven itself a trust worthy club. I am obviously longer with it versus my old Steelhead. Its accuracy also has given me more confidence. No more hitting a 5 wood to find the fairway on tight par 4's. I feel like I can trust the driver again.

I was fitted by GolfTec. They were great. I was able to find a club with the spec's I needed at GolfSmith with no need for further customization from Taylor Made.

Forget the weight cartridges, I think they are mostly a gimick. But this is definitely the best driver I have personally ever hit. After buying it, I have hit more fairways than ever before, and am longer than ever before. What more could you want? For some reason, this club just "feels" right to me. Not too awkward like those monster head drivers. Not too light like the XD, but not too heavy either. Solid swings produce fantastic results. If you are expecting the weight tuning to fix a hook or slice, then forget it. But if you want a great driver, I don't think you can beat the r7. Mine is the 9.5, stock stiff shaft.
