I've been holding off on getting an R7 for over a year now and finally got a deal that I couldn't pass up...there are some good deals out there but please demo before you buy, if you can...I paid under $300.00 for mine...this club is good but it is not worth anywhere near the suggested retail or the discounted price of $399.00 that many on-line golf shops are promoting. I tried the R7 with the stock shafts from TaylorMade and found that they were not at all suitable for my swing...more like hitting a rock but with the Aldila the club really came into its own! I have the R7 with an Aldila NV65-R shaft with a 10.5 degree loft and the ball rockets off the face long and true! My preferred weight set-up is straight and high...it works for me. I had an opportunity to demo the R7 over six months ago and found that the best set-up for me is as I stated above. Normally, I've been using drivers with the NV65 in stiff or x-stiff, and the NVS65 in stiff. But with the R7 the set-up has changed quite a bit, but as I said, it works for me...moral...demo, demo, demo! This is one of the longest drivers that I've ever hit, and it is very consistent. I caution, as another poster or two have before me, this is not a miracle driver, you have to have the swing to begin with in order to take advantage of this club...but, this applies to literally any pro-line club...if you have the game they work! Incidentally, I tried different weight settings and found that they do work. And, in fact, I also got the TP upgrade weight kit (got a deal on that as well as it's way overpriced otherwise and suggest that most of us, myself included, probably don't need it anyway) and have tried a number of those suggested weight settings, and they work as well. Again, I caution that you need the repeating swing to make these work.

This is absolutely the best driver I have ever hit. Came with the factory installed Fuj. 757 Speeder shaft in stiff flex. For me, it is the longest and most forgiving driver I have hit in the last 1.5 years and I have hit them all. Pricey, but worth every penny.

Since you have probably read many reviews about this driver, I am not going to go into many of the same details that have alredy been brought up. I will instead discuss what the weights actually do to your drives. Firstly let me say that if you are looking for a club with movable weights that is going to turn your u turn slice into a bombed power draw then you need to shut off your computer, unplug it, and throw it out the window. THIS IS NOT A MIRACLE DRIVER! Now that that is out of the way, let me go on to say that this is on average the longest driver that I have ever hit. I have the club trajectory set up for Draw, but it is not the club that is drawing the ball. It is ME that is drawing the ball. I can very easily hit a power fade with the same setting. So what's the big deal with the weights then? Well let me say what so many other reviewers before me said. YES the weights do work, but it all depends on how you interpret working weights. How I view the weights as being a working factor for my drives is that if you have the club set up for draw, and you have always hit a draw drive with your previous driver, then you will hit this draw drive with the R7 further. If you set the club up for fade, and you used to hit a fade with your previous driver, then with the R7 you will still hit a fade, but one that flies further. My average drive went up from 285- 310 yards to 295- 330 yards consistantly. Don't be fooled into thinking that this club at the right adjustment is going to make you as long and straight as Ron Jeremy. What it will do is make your drives longer when the club weights are set to the appropriate setting to best match your swing plane. That all being said I will denote one final thing. This driver is not for everyone, but it is a tremendous Driver for those who have already developed a solid level on confidence in their drive and are looking for more distance off the tee.

If only this club could cook. : ) Just bought an r7 with Fujikura Vista60 reg flex, 10.5*, and played my first round with it this weekend. I have not re-adjusted the weight settings, and given the results from a couple range sessions and the first round of use, plan to never "mess up" the chemistry of this club. This driver, set at standard/neutral position, has added 25-30 yards off the tee, but more importantly results in shots going where they're aimed. Most of the courses I play have water or other hazards either running parallel or strategically placed off the tee. The ability to take these "round ruiners" out of play and have confidence that the ball's going where you're aimed is huge. I have used an Orlimar Trimetal driver for the past seven or eight years (also 10.5 loft), and am reluctant to changing clubs by nature. This industry seems to make current equipment obsolete with record speed, and I've always believed "it's the archer not the arrow" theory. But this club has me believing that technology does make a difference. After reading several user reviews about this club, would like to reiterate two things that I've also found to be true. This club may not be for everyone, but if you have a consistent, repeatable swing at 95+ mph, you're going to like the results. Secondly, there are so many choices of shafts available with this club (stock TM, Fujikura, Adilia, Grafaloy; all with R/S/X flex choices and different weightings), some time at a swing analyzer is well spent to ensure proper fitting for your game. Not recommended that you buy the club sight-unseen off eBay, unless you happen to know the right logistics for YOUR swing. Paid $400 at Nevada Bob's, and while that's the most I've ever spent on a golf club (my first SET was $120), it was worth every penny.

Went to Carls Golfland & tried the regular shaft R7 Quad with slight draw setup. Being an older golfer I don`t hit as far as I used to.190-200 yrds.Anyway I could not hit this driver any farther than I can hit my own.I also tried the Cobra 440sz. I thought this driver felt better than the R7 thou again I didn`t hit it any farther than I do my own All three were reg.shaft in 9 degree loft.So I guess I saved $300-$400. I would recommend Carls Golfland ( in MI) to try different clubs before buying. I sure would love to 20 -50 more yrds.like some say, but I sure didn`t.

This is a great driver. However, you need to be consistent with your swing in order to get the most out of it. Reasonably forgiving IMHO. Best shots are hit close to center slightly above the equator or horizontal middle on the face which is where the hottest part of the clubface is. I am driving probably 30-40 yds (avg. 250 yds now) farther than my previous Taylormade driver using the stock reg. flex shaft. Trajectory pierces thru the wind rather than being held up by it now. Moving the weights definitely changes the shot making capabilities too. I am more accurate with this driver than anything else out there. My partners could not believe the distance and accuracy I was getting, jokingly saying I had an illegal driver. Driving has become a stronger part of my game now. I can be bold with tight fairways which was not an option before. Really deserves a look if your in the market for a driver.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R7 10 ½ Grafalloy blue stiff

R7 10 ½ Grafalloy blue stiff set on 4 for slight draw. For me this is the best golf club ever made. Last year I gave up on my driver used my 3 wood on all tee shots needless to say I was confined me to the members tees and long par 4’s and 5’s were tough. Now I’m 250 to 270 down the middle with a 75% swing I can actually hit a draw straight or fade when I want to after the first few rounds and time at the driving range I’ve hit 85% of fairways the last 3 rounds only very bad swings result in a slice or hook. I paid 380 on ebay this winter best 380 I’ve ever spent completely changed my game. I’m buying an r5 fairway 5 wood for long fairway shots and taking my 3 wood out of my bag. I recommend getting on a launch monitor and getting fitted by a professional I luckily guessed correctly.

Model Reviewed: TaylorMade R7-Fujikura Shaft

I kept the specs on my TaylorMade 580 and sent them to Golfsmith. They took the R7 and installed and pured a Fujikura Speedier 727 R. Holy smoke, what a difference. I moved the weights around to test and see what setup would work for me. This is the best thing to come along in the past 15 years. I can set up my driver for whatever course I am going to play. Solid feel and easy to swing. I loved my 580, but I like this one much more. I also picked up about 15 yards. Worth every penny. I had tried the R7 with the stock shaft and didn't like it. The Fujikura makes a world of difference.

Model Reviewed: R7 Quad TP

I have been playing with this driver for about a month now. I Love this club, but don't think it is the club for just anyone. I have a very repeatable swing, and have experienced that when I do mis-hit it I am greatly penalized by distance loss. However, it is quite forgiving accuracy wise. The 400cc head provides sufficient gear affect to bring the off center ones back around (but again with much less distance.) The sound is what really sold me. Not metallic at all. It has a very crisp and authoritative thwack. I gave up about 10-15 yards when I shelved the 983E (glad to because I had no idea where the Titleist was going), but that might just be, because I haven't yet found my optimal weight placement for it yet. My only problem with this club is the butt chewing my wife gave me when she found out what it cost. Hide the reciept better than I did, and this club will give you no problems.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 Quad 10.5 with a aldila 75 shaft

I've read a lot on these new Taylor Made R7 drivers and have seen several guys around my coarse use them, but for me all I had to do was hit one and wow! I'm not the most consistant golfer in the world of the tee, but I've always been able to hit the ball a long way.(I'm 6'2" and wiegh about 250) I picked up a R7 Quad off of ebay for a good price with an Aldila 75 shaft(my favorite shaft right now)and the first ball I hit on the range with it went into the net, about 300 yards. After getting used to the driver I've hit several drives over 300 yrds and had a 375 yrd drive just yesterday! I know that this club isn't for everybody, as you have to have a pretty consistant swing to get the full benefit of it. I have the wieghts set up for straight and low.(because mine is a 10.5) All I know is that I love it and if you have a fast consistant swing the R7 with a stiff shaft will amaze you!
