I play to a 5 handicap. Most of the reviews here are accurate. Once you get the weights set right, you should see a more consistent ball flight. Having said that, this is not a driver for adding length. I lost 25 yards in switching from my Titleist. Not sure the limited improvement in accuracy is worth the loss of yardage.

First...I really wanted to like this club. I HAD the R580XD and now, wish I would have kept it. I play pretty much a straight ball, when I am on my game I can work it a bit and when I am NOT on my game I tend to fade the ball. But, I am, for the most part pretty consistent in the fact that I hit a lot of fairways. Not overly long by any stretch, 230-260 is good for me. I hit a buddies r7 and loved the set up. I thought the smaller head actually gave me a feeling of confidence. If nothing else, it is a beautiful club. I bought the EXACT same set up as his. 9.5°, Aldila NV-65-S, set it for a draw bias. At first (the honeymoon phase) I felt pretty comfortable BUT, something did not feel right. The club did NOT seem near as long as my 580XD nor as forgiving. I took it out on a couple of rounds and things went from bad to worse. The other thing I noticed was that the club felt significantly heavier than the XD..I didn't look at the specs, but it was verified by a club pro I use. Bottom line...it never felt "good" to me and you all know how that is. If it doesn't feel right, it probably will never feel right...that was my case. As others have posted, you definitely need a repeatable swing for the TLC system to work...I don't think mine is all that repeatable and it never worked right. Some will love the club...some it won't work for...its the nature of the game. To me, this club is for someone better than me. I can admit that.

A great club for good ball strikers. It put 30 yards on my drives, now averaging ~300 yards. The straightist and longest driver around for low handicap players. Enough said.

Never thought I will use Taylor Made porduct. Basically I hate most of their wood until this r7. The most important thing that help me is the ability to adjust swing weight. I found my optimum point at D9 (bought the TP kit) and I have never been so comfortable with the driver in my hand. My good drive can go 300+ yard easily and I can manage to keep it in the fairway most of the time. I am a big Nike ignite fan but can't help falling in love with this r7. Surprising stock shaft works just fine for me (after I cut 1/2" off) It's not for everyone but you should at least give it a try. Make sure you try it with different swing weight, you will be surprised how this little thing can make a HUGE difference to you driving game. It has totally transformed my long game.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R7 9.5 degree Aldila 65 stiff

I have had my R7 with aldila NV65 for 3 months now. This has given me plenty of opportunity to get to know this driver. Just for the record, my handicap is 6 and I have a driver swing speed of around 104 mph. First the good news! If you swing smooth, unload with force and can hit the sweet spot every time, this driver may be for you. When hit slightly above center and dead in the center, this thing flies a mile and then rolls even more. I have had drives that have gone 260 or more yards in the air with this thing! Now for the bad news. I honestly believe this driver is too hard to hit consistently for probably 99 percent of mortal amateurs! I don't want to get into the whole issue of launch angle and shaft choice etc., as this would take all day. However, I really feel that there are other clubs on the market that offer similar feel, better distance and greater accuracy for the amateur golfer. Like I said before, if you can really hit exactly the sweet spot, you will love the distance of this thing. But if like me, you may stray an eight of an inch from time to time, you will be punished. I recently got fitted by a local Ping representative and am now thinking of switching to the G2, which is longer, easier to hit and feels more solid to me. Like always, the motto is get fitted. I cannot begin to tell you how much difference it makes to find the right shaft and clubhead combination. Forget all your ideas about what shaft flex, torque and kick point you need and just go get fitted!!!

The Taylor R7 is a great club for a VERY good ball striker. When hit well, the club will perform as well, if not better than anything on the market. Changing the weights does affect the ball flight as well, it's no gimmick. However, when you do mis-hit this club, the penalty in both distance and accuracy is a bit more severe than with some of the other top drivers on the market today. Even though I am a single digit handicap, I now do not consider myself a good enough golfer to swing this club. The penalties are just too severe on the mis hits. I've replaced this club with a Callaway 454. In summary, if you can really strike the ball consistently, the R7 may be the club for you. If you can't you are probably better off looking elsewhere and I would recommend looking at the Callaway 454, Cleveland Launcher and Ping G2.....all of which are excellent drivers and a bit more forgiving than the R7.

Well let me start off by saying I hit the ball pretty far (usually avg around 270-285, and can go max 315). Now the Taylormade is a solid driver in terms of accuracy. I mean i hit this thing pretty darn straight and that kept me enticed for a while. But it seems like no matter how I hit it i could never hit longer then 275. For me this is a BIG problem, especially considering I spent $400 on it. So I went to Golfgalaxy and bought a 983k for $120 w/ Speeder and its just as straight and much longer. So in short if u need accuracy go R7 and you won't be dissapointed, if you're distance driven I'd look elsewhere

The R7 is the best driver I have ever hit, bar none. I have read several of the reviews posted here, and don't understand what is not to like about this club. True, to each his own, but someone who is willing to pay for this club should already have a game good enough to support it. I agree that it may not be a club for high handicappers, but you also don't need to be a pro to have great results with it. I also think you cannot buy this club to fix a problem with your swing. If you hit a fade, you can't set it up for a draw and be magically fixed. The idea I like to use when setting the club up is to match the weighting system to your natural ball flight and work from there. All in all, if you are proficient with your current driver, the R7 may help your game, but always demo, demo, demo before you buy to make sure the club is for you. Finally, I can honestly say I have gained 10-20 yards on my average drive with this club. Reasons? Could be the increased confidence off the tee this club gives me, as I feel it is extremely forgiving, but the club itself has helped....

i have had the driver for about 2 months now and all i have to say is...once you find out how you want the weights set up...this will be the best club in your bag. im 5'6" 120 lbs. im 18 and w/ my old titleist 983K i was averaging about 275 but now with the weights set perfect i am averaging about 295-305..ive sorta shaved some stokes by hitting more fairways as well..this club is the most reliable but well worth the $800 price tag of which i paid...

This a very solid club and goes deep but you really need to have a consistent swing to get good results. This is not a mid-high handicappers club at all. Granted I hit it pretty well but I could never get used to the deep face and especially the shorter width caused me a lot of problems. I had a tendency to hit it off of the toe a lot. Now this isn't the clubs fault but my own. Not very forgiving as soem say but man does it make a great sound when you hit it on the screws, sounds like a bomb going off "BOOM!!!"
